Hey fellas,

Just wondering, (direct me elsewhere if my problem is similar and has been resolved previously).

I dont get drive the GT-R as much anymore so leave it at home and evey week or few days i start it up and let it run for a bit and reverse it, drive it back and forward a bit.

But now after i went to sydney for 4 days, got back 2 days later i tried to start it...

It doesn't start anymore.

I thought the fuel was the problem.. old fuel or the fuel gauge was stuck and was actually empty. Went out purchased 15L of BP 98, got that in there, tried again, nothing.

Everything seems perfect (maybe not looking hard enough).

The car sounds like its starting but it just doesn't fire and just doesn't start.

You can hear the starter ands just not taking that little extra step to start.

I have no idea what it could be, but i'm guessing with no reasons, that it could be the spark plugs.

I know that i'm probably not going to be very succesful, as you can't really diagnose a problem like this online.

But, i can try.

DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY IDEA WHATS WRONG WITH IT.

Thoughts, opinions anything. Just don't go off at me.

Yes, you may may have fouled the plugs by just running the engine always cold. It might also be that the battery is a bit "below par". The ECU requires a minimum voltage (I think it's around 7 volts) to stay "alive". If the battery is a bit sus, it might be able to turn the engine, but not have enough in reserve to keep the ECU alive. Try a jump from a good battery, then take the beast for a good drive to clean her out.

Yah, battery or fouled plugs would be a good place to start. A quick clean with carbon deposit removal solvent (TB cleaner) would prolly suffice. You need to then take the car for a decent few WOT runs to burn the rest of the shite off them.

Ok, so first thing is first, charge it up, take plugs out, check them.. What am i looking for...? If they are no good anymore...

I don't think i've ever changed them.

Whats TB cleaner?

If the rain stops over the weekend, i'll do it all.

Alright, sounds about right, i'll take them out soon and see how they are... and post em up to see if you guys can shed some light.

Whats the cost for Copper ones? Don't wanna go out and just get any and get ripped.

Flat battery mate. If your car doesn't even crank, jump start her and let her run a few minutes. (hopefully you have another car or a friend with one) Leave both cars running for 5 minutes or so to replenish the batteries after the jump. Just jumped my 4x4, had been sitting there for a couple of months without being driven. - Would advise taking your car for a burn aftwards as well. I guess you could always charge the battery as well as previously stated, but could be the plugs as well. :happy::) Goodluck

The battery isn't flat, as when i turn my key its "starting" but just isn't firing..

Like the battery has enough power i believe to get the starter going but the engine just doesn't turn after that, like when you start any car.

I'll hook the battery up over night regardless.

If that doesn't work, out come the plugs, let you guys see, see if they are gone.

Get some new ones or clean them, try it again. and i'll never do this again.

I highly doubt fouled plugs will cause a modern engine to not fire at all :D It would at least try to start if not start and just run rough. I got to say i will be very suprised if plugs are the cause. Best bet is to go through the usual checks. Keep in mind the battery actually only needs to drop to 9-10v during cranking (load) for the ECU not to function. So first off get a jump pack/start. If nothing...

Then check for spark and fuel.

Pull a plug out (check plug condition while your there) and connect it into the coil while also earth it on the head next to the spark plug hole. Easiest way to do this is to get a HT lead and connect one end to the coil where the spark plug normally goes and the other end to the top of the spark plug. This gives you more room. Get someone to crank the engine while you watch for a spark to jump the gap.

To check for fuel pull the fuel supply hose off the fuel rail and turn the ignition to on without cranking. You should get a decent flow of fuel from the hose.

If you dont want to attempt this and your not too familiar with engines/diagnosis then just get a mechanic to look at it for you.

Thanks again, charged up, didn't work. used the jumping switch from the charger, didn't work aswell.

Next step is checking the spark plugs.

But as Godzilla said, it couldn't have done that much and should still fire.

So then could be no fuel supply.

I can hear the pump pumping, but possibly no fuel is going through.

Spark plugs first. I'll take one/two out take few pics and show sometime this week.

When i get her started again, i dont think i'll turn her off.

If you can hear the pump there is a good chance your getting fuel to the rail. So like you said check for spark, then you will know which area to pursue. If you have spark the next thing to consider is injector pulse. You need a noid light to see if you have injector pulse, or you can use a test light. You are basically checking if the ecu is firing the injectors. If you dont have spark then you need to check the ignition module/ignitor. It fires the coils.

Alright, this weekend, i'll be taking the plugs out. Rain has stopped, hopefully wont start again before the weekend.

Are there different types of copper spark plugs i should look for?

(if i need to change them)

Just getting ready.

I cant remember the exact plug sorry better check the FAQ on copper plugs in GTR's. Its an NGK plug. Possibly BKR6ES?

my bet is the plugs...with correct battery voltage and new plugs it will fire 1st time

Alright, rushed to it this arvo... it was quick and easy as the cover was off already.

The spark plugs, look pretty bad to me, erossion and all.

Looks pretty bad in my eyes, but i got nothing to compare it against.

    • I would not be surprised if you are the only person on earth that has the interest/desire to do that lol.  The Haltech base map is a really good starting point, the car will fire easily and drive very well, even on mild boost levels. To me, following your advice sounds like some sort of ancient Chinese water torcher lol (this is not an insult Josh, never change <3)
    • Those car show concepts from the 2000's and 2010's like the Floria and IDx were brilliant and should've gone ahead, at least one of them. But neither Honda nor Nissan are thinking about affordable performance any more, which is truly sad.  Even if Toyota's liquid hydrogen ICE development reaches the point where it's commercially viable and the infrastructure to support it, Honda/Nissan would have to wait until Toyota allow fee access to their patents to offer it with any smaller performance models they released to take advantage of it.  
    • A sporty manual RWD coupe with a IL4 Honda engine would only be a good thing I assume we won't see anything released for a few years though, unless informal talks and designs have been going on for a few years,  and due to the current, and future, emmisions and safety requirements, I assume anything "sporty" they would do would be at least some hybrid thingie And hopefully anything they are thinking of has nice lines, without lots of plastic and fake bits hanging off it like that horrendous FK8 that looked like it was designed by a 13 year old The other issue of course in the current market is cost, currently the type R is around $70k, a twin is around $50k Meh, I'm old and grumpy and would rather buy a older model car and waste my coin on that than buying anything currently available new
