Hi guys, new to register to the forums but been lurking for years

Just wondering if the vic boys ever organise any social meetups? Main reason I ask is that I'm looking at importing an R33 GTR and was hoping some kind local member would offer to show me their car and explain all the good & bad bits. JDMST might be having a meet over Queens Birthday long weekend, so that might be a good time to coincide?

Last time I was in a GTR was about 6 years ago. I then went to work in London for a couple of years, come back in 04 and got a WRX as a company car. It's been pretty sweet, no complaints with it (here's a pic: http://88speed.com/images/night1.jpg ) but I'm looking at selling it for a proper godzilla.

Any owners want to comment on what in particular to look out for? My basic needs are pretty easy to meet - must have both airbags is the main one. Prefer white or purple, nice to have the xenon headlights too. Couple of details I couldn't find much info about though - do they have cruise control? Did they ever have a sunroof as an option?

I don't want a 600hp car, just something comfortable and powerful to cruise around in, totally stock looking. Problem with my wrx is too much attention and it's time for a change.

Thanks guys

Tim

wow u want cruise control, if i had a gtr i would only use it as weekend car and have a ford or holden as my daily with gas lolz

ow and if you dont want attention you certainly get that with a 33 GTR it would bring allot of attention to the cops even though it will be stock and all you still get pulled over, but dont that scare ya from buying one im just jealus because i want a gtr, but i still stick with my 32 gtst that looks like a gtr lolz skyline is a fun car, i love the features of them, handling is good, sound of the engine is nice , and they run good. couldnt tell u all the problems of a skyline especially a gtr i just started to drive one around more and got 1 problem but expect that which my gtst is 15 yo + car

Have a read through these section of the forums:

...that should give you a feel for what to look out for.

Also, try get out to a few car yards and take em for a drive.

Skylines still attract attention, if your WRX was stock, driven well and not driven in the known Melbourne hotspots, I would say that will get you less attention.

By the sounds of it, you just want someone with a stock 33 GTR, preferably last of the models and in white or purple to take you for a spin and a bit of an inspection? If so, might be a suggestion to change the title or first couple of lines to include that.

G'day mate and welcome...Check the events section for meetups etc. Quite a few gtrs normally turn up to cruises and meets so if you are after a ride in one you can ask an owner who posts that they are turning up.

As for the above....xenons, passenger/driver airbag were standard in the series 3 R33 gtrs and of course all R34 gtrs. As for cruise control thats a no (pretty hard to get cruise control in a manual and all gtrs are manual). Also AFAIK no sunroofs were available in a GTR.

As for what to look for.....importing is a bit of a mine field as you don't know the history of the car and cannot get it inspected prior to purchase. Much easier to buy one in Oz and you can take it to a respected workshop such as racepace for a look over prior to purchase. As long as it has been looked after by previous owners...regular oil changes, quality mods and maintenance etc you can't go wrong keeping in mind they are well over the 10+ year mark.

Sounds suspicious to me...

No one will start a thread like this. Just to "Show me their car and explain all the good & bad bits. JDMST might be having a meet over Queens Birthday long weekend"

...

Hi guys - sorry I must be blind, didn't even see the events section in vic bit  I'd rather not go straight to a traders yard as I reckon I'd get a more honest opinion from an owner of a GTR rather than some bloke trying to sell me one.

Thanks Ant97GTR for your comments, I'll be searching for a series3. As for cruise control... my wrx has it and I use it a lot. The GTR probably won't get driven as much as my daily driver, so I guess missing cruise control won't be such a big deal. Pity there's no sunroof, but can't have it all :O

Anyway, I've got a friend who runs an import parts company looking for one for me in Japan, so maybe the next update will be pics of the car :D

Tim

GTR's don't have sunroofs like many high performance sports cars. The roof is part of the structural stiffness. Cutting a hole in the roof reduces that

No, no cruise control on a GTR, don't think gtsts had it either.

And if you want 2 airbags and Xenons, as Ant said, best to look for a Series 3 - Late 97 or 98.

Well, here's an update for you guys, after having a look at a couple of local GTRs, my mate found me a nice silver '97 Series 3 GTR in Japan. Pretty much what I was looking for, virtually stock, factory HIDs, two airbags. Should be on the boat soon and here in 3-4 weeks :D His R34 GTR just arrived and went for a drive in it yesterday, wow  .

Now just busy selling off all the parts from my WRX and sell the car too - looking for an accord euro lux (automatic) as a daily driver if anyone knows one selling in Vic. Also wanting recommendations for good service shops (preferable eastern suburbs) as the car need all fluids changed and timing belt done.

Tim

ah, i mean service for the GTR (haven't bought the accord yet!). I'm sure there's a few good, honest workshops around that know their way around a GTR, recommendations would be good so I can set up things before the beast arrives :D

Hey mate, General meetings are the 3rd Tuesday of ever month so this months meeting will be the 15th I'm pretty sure. It's open to anyone to come along and there's always cars there and people to talk to. All a pretty friendly bunch, you can have a meal and grab a drink too! :)

Last months thread for details - http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Ge...ay-t223156.html

Also check the events section if you're looking for meets - http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Events-f102.html

There is also a SAU Vic official club that has a lot more events on - http://www.sauvic.com.au/

Cheers :)
