GTS-T are 16x6.5" +40 offset and are Cast wheels

GTR are 16x8" +30 offset and are Forged wheels

Both designs are the same just the gtr are stronger being forged and stick out further becuase they are wider and have a lower +offset.

Cast and forged are the way wheels are made. I think cast are just pored into a mold and forged are machined out of a piece of steel. (maybe someone can confirm)being forged is much more expensive and creates a stonger wheel.

forged are 'cast' under pressure which improves grain alignment and therefore strength. Therefore you need less material for the same overall strength, so it is lighter... forging is different to machined

"billet" is generally used to describe machined wheel pieces, eg 3 piece rim centres may be from billet, ie start with a block of aluminium, use mills to machine to the desired shape.

We need to swap jobs for a while. LOL so i can get some office time and gawk at beauties in suits and you can work in a dirty engineering field :ermm:

Forged is typicall from a machined billet which is then pressed whilst at an elevated temperature to the required shape. Typically more machining follows. So not really similar to casting. Though there are several forms of casting with some better then others.

ahh ok thanks for that. Makes perfect sense. Now while you guys are here :) i'll get you to answer another question for me please :]

16x6.5 ... whats the widest tyre i can get on them without being too dangerous :D 215, 225? or 205 is the widest i can go?

Thanks guys, and thank you optus for providing such an awesome shaped 28.8 bandwidth.

what u are talking about is actually called pressure casting, not forging. forging is exactly that, pressing and forging solid billet alloy. The alloy is often heated up to soften it, and even in some instances to almost a molten form (Semi-Solid Forging patented by SSR) to make it easier to forge. Casting under high pressure can create good results, but it still isnt forging, low pressure casting is used in most cases, especially OE, so id imagine it is what is used for the GTS-t wheels. Obviously then there is gravity casting, u really want to stay away from this at all costs lol. Generally forging is only used for the disk, the rim is usually "flow formed" or "rolled" which is where they heat up the barrel(rim), spin and press the shape. and yeh, then obviously there is the CNC machining to finish it off.

i personally wouldnt go past a 225, 235 would be the limit tho.
