any suspension which allows you to lower your car below the legal limit is considered illegal, be it threaded coilovers or groove's and clips style.

I remember years ago when i had to take my sprinter through regency i had threaded coilovers in it, i raised them right up and the right height was pretty decent. I got knocked back and told to weld my locking collar and spring platform to the sleeve to prevent adjustability.... Apart from the fact you cant weld alloy to steel, i wasnt going to f**k my stuff up and just put stock susp in there.

the fact of the matter is, Im all for ADR's and compliance, but they way they go about enforcing them in SA is a f**king joke. QLD has a much better method ( i lived there for a while and bought my ae86 up there) where you can modify you car, and then MOD plate it and have it signed off as legal. If you get pulled over all the cop has to do is check that the mods on the car and the plate match up... and your on your way.

yeah, only prob is that Aust Design Rule applies in QLD to.

Having a Mod plate will at least stop constant visits to Regency for a mod that is legal but they have the same rules as we do.

Or do what I do. Get an engineers certificate. Like I do for most of my project cars.

Cops generally leave you alone when you have too much paperwork to give them a headache.

Except for the time I got defect outside AIR. Showed the traffic cops my Engineers Cert and they still defect me for tyres (90% tread) because they couldn't touch anything else. Had to go for something piss weak. Got the defect off next day at the local cop shop when I complained about the unfairness ... the sergeant agreed with me. No charge. :D

Yeah I had a similar situation with the bike. For the 1st 10 months they would drive behind me for a km or so then peel off but in the 11 mth I got pulled over 3 times in a fortnight. I explained that I have engineers papers but its too much to carry with me on a bike all the time. I didn't get defected but he was correct in saying that there is nothing to stop me from further mods that are not included in the engineers report

engineers cert isnt worth the paper its written on IMO.

a cop will still send you to regancy, as it is their job to find out if your car currently conforms to the standard on the engineers cert, even if its perfectally 100% legal your still out of pocket 130 bucks + your time and stuff around of going to regency.

and dont say that "ops generally leave you alone when you have too much paperwork to give them a headache" becasue they wont care either way, they just fill out the defect form like they would for any other car.

engineer reports wont pass a defect station because cops see it as if you have any mods that dont suit S.A road rules then its a defect. Reports are only good for regency and they do pass without a prob unless you have modified emission then thats when big dollers and alot of research comes into it. It's $700 for emission test at regency and if you dont pass then thats $700 down the drain, plus you have to pay engineer's and thats not cheap for emissions law.

we can only hope this will be enforced some where down the track. whats the cost involved in getting shit engineered for that though? if its anything like it is here in SA ud probably look at quite a few k just to get a lightly modified car engineered.

i spend 1500 bucks on engineers reports when building my ac cobra and i still had a 6 month argument with regency pk .

i was running straight lpg on a 302 windsor out of a mustang i had to run a air pump but no v8 on australian made cars had too . i had to run cat converters even tho they do jack shit on lpg .

and the biggest laugh that took all the time was they said i had to run a charchol canister its straight lpg there is no place to connect the fkn thing into . after 6 months regency said i could apply for a exemption to run without it .

the engineer wrote to regancy on my behalf explaining the cannister wasent needed they ignored him .

the guy doing the gas wrote to regency saying you could not connect one they wrote back saying fit one or else lol.

never have i had to deal with such a mob of fwits in my life

so in my experince engineer reports in sa are as useless as tits on a bull

NEVER EVER ARC UP WITH A COP YOU WON"T WIN.............

You can, and do win. I've debated with cops over traffic/defect matters and gotten off. Its how you do it, and how smart you are in getting your point across.

I think this is developing into a sad world: where you try to do the right thing by the cops (engineers certificate/racing or drifting at the race track), yet they will still go out of their way to nick you anyway. There's our reward for doing the right thing. Then on the other side of the coin, you get people who just give up and don't even try to debate the point. When you're busted fair and square speeding or whatever, yeah cop it sweet and pay the fine. But when you know you're being nicked for no reason at all, don't lie down.

    • Let's hope that's not a copy pump either. There were so many copies of them back in the day.
    • Damn it, I was at work last night, and stayed in a room there during the storm with the car outside, but undercover, I just went downstairs and well....there was a large steel locker that has come from some place last night, it wasn't anywhere I could see yesterday, and yeap, it landed on the fraking car....of course it did..... LOL So, I'll need to take it back for paint and panel, luckily it was only the boot that took the hit, so it could have been worse Serves me right for staying at work and getting on the cans with some of the boys
    • Yeah, really happy with how it all turned out As for aftermarket lip, nah, I'm not really a fan for practically reasons on a street car that gets driven everywhere  I did have the full lower kit on my 2015 STI, but found the front lip scrapped alot, even at stock 4x4ish ride height As the NC sits now, with the lowest point of the car at 110mm, so just legal, some steep driveways and steep speed humps will still "just" scrap those little plastic OEM air dam thingies on the undertray just before the front wheels
    • Here's one I help build and tuned a decade ago, Garrett  GTX3071R Gen 1, T3 twin scroll 0.83 rear housing. Went from larger 272 cams down to smaller Tomei Poncams to help with the low end. S13 non VCT motor. Car was purpose built for the track, hence low down was the focus. Note the actual dyno chart shows lower boost, however the EBC and boost gauge showed 1.9Bar (Ignore the torque, I was young and didn't know how to set derived torque)
    • I’m doing some side developments on SR20det S13 engines, its one my hobby cars used it to compare flow capacity of some smaller size wheels. SR20det is one of another JDM legendary engines I'm sure there are plenty of SR enthusiasts on this forum, I will share results some common turbo configurations here. a quick run down of what the car is: Wide body 180sx Type X with black top engine (blue). It has: Stock bottom end Haltech 1500 ECU 5-0 motorsports trigger kit Kelford SR20DET Beehive Spring with Titanium Retainers Kelford Cams SR20DET S13 188-B 268/272 Cams G25-660 Turbocharger in T2 .64 rear housing internally gated ARP Head studs MLS head gasket 1000CC ID injectors Walbro 450L Fuel pump Front mount cooler kit JJR’s 3 inches turbo back exhaust (its too short for the 180sx it had to be extended) Pump 98 fuel Hub Dyno tune So far made 270rwkws at 22psi full boost by 4500RPM. Engine is very knock limited hence a pretty bad looking top end. From previous experiences it seems like SR20dets are happier with bigger size turbine, some thing like a GT30 would make way better top end, but on same time response is lost. It won't be a problem with S15 VCT engines. I'll be testing alternative turbine housing, turbine wheel and possibly dump pipe options for extra flow to resolve the problem and of course E85 would resolve all the issues.
