The Australian version of Top Gear now has it’s hosts — Motorsport commentator Charlie Cox, cartoonist Warren Brown and driving instructor Steve Pizzati.

Currently a motorsport commentator for the BBC, Cox, 47, is known for his classic one-liners.

He worked in radio in Sydney in the 1980s before moving to the UK where he won several motor racing titles in the 1990s and was involved in a near life-ending crash in 1995.

Brown, in his mid-40s, is best known for his work as a cartoonist and motoring columnist for The Daily Telegraph, but also has a passion for historic cars.

The third host, Steve Pizzati, is the youngest of the bunch, in his mid 30s.

He is an advanced driving instructor, freelance motoring journalist and a race driver for Porsche Australia.

Sydney Morning Herald motoring editor Josh Dowling will act as the motor industry consultant.

they will always say it is not as good as the original.

like big brother, America stole it and it failed miserably (i am pretty sure it was big brother)

thou to be totally honest big brother in Australia sucks as well. :D

Pretty sure it sucks everywhere. The USA had it before we did (like everything) but it's a worldwide franchise.

Sorry for the re-post. I only checked Vic section and checked first 2 pages, so it musta been elsewhere.

The issue I see is that as Australia is so far from Europe, access to all the cars would be trickier.

James would have been good on it. He should know a thing a too by now about the exotics.

So they want to take this british show and make it australian, so of course the first thing they do is get a brit host who has no relevance or is known by any car audience in australia and then they add a cartoonist with a passion for classic cars, top gear is not about classic cars for the most part its about exotics and performance cars, the third guy seems like he has the credentials to do this job though.

cant see it lasting long.

I don't think it will be that bad. Sure, they won't match up to Clarkson, Captain Slow & Hamster but that would be a huge ask for anyone.

I like that they have chosen some proper enthusiasts and drivers, rather than some shit TV personality like Glen Ridge or Jamie Durie.

As long as they review a good mix of mainstream and exotic cars with a sense of humour, I for one will be happy for a second (but different) dose of Top Gear every week!
