just looking for peoples opinions...

had the thought of remounting my front numberplates off to the side, for a jap look. and also to look cleaner as my current plates bend inwards >.< (need low profiles methinks)

do you think this has been overdone/is an old fad?

Just a tip don't follow fads... it just makes you look sheepish...

Just make modifications to your car on a needs basis...

Does your number plate interfere in the air flow to your intercooler or radiator, if yes move it, if no don't...

easy

Did you "need" to put those vinyl graphics on your car, im sure they dont add any increases in power, sarcasm aside my point is, if you think it looks good or will benefit you in any way then do it, its your car, you dont modify it on a 'need-to' basis, you do it because you like to, correct?

This is my opinion only, and based on the fact I do a LOT of work with SES, and therefore around a lot of police as well (and it also doesn't help me in the fact that on another car forum, there are a number of highway patrol guys that come to regular events when off duty).

Anyway, I personally rather mine in the stock position in the centre, get Slim-line plates, and the plate wont effect air flow, or if your an engineering type, you can make a bracket to angle the plate at a 10 - 12 degree angle to push wind down into the front of the car, which will actually help your car (be it miniscule, every tiny little bit does help).

I have had talks with friends that wear blue uniforms, and they have said that side-mounted numberplates on cars that where not stock like that seem to catch the eye a little, and that means they have noticed the car, and are now looking at you wondering why they noticed it.

If you want a sleeper, slim line plates in the stock position, if you have a nice weekender that you want noticed, then side mounted plates, custom body kit, etc will do the trick.

Something to remember though, if your building a car to be noticed by the by-standers, you need to remember it will also be noticed by the boys in blue, because deep down somewhere inside them (just a small bit of them anyway) is actually human, and humans do notice nice cars.

Correct.

    • Thread bump, again! Although, no bad news this time. Posting for the sake of possible root cause. Basically, I rebuilt it (mostly stock), installed Haltech + sensors, had it running fine on new ECU.  Still not really understanding why it cracked pistons last time. Got to tuners, and while checking timing, noticed +-10deg of timing scatter while revving. Changed CAS, and it was rock solid. While not definitive, can't imagine seeing 20+ psi with that amount of scatter would be a good thing. Also glad I found something.   Bit more of a run down; Carried out a stock rebuild, a set of stock pistons, out of a spare bottom end. Everything stock apart from head studs and oil restrictors. (so I can pretend I didn't let the Nissan out, ha.) Armed with the measuring gear and FSM, set about doing overhaul. Oil restrictors as per oil control thread for a RB25, stock oil pump, drifting. Head drain/vent from rear of head, to passenger side of sump above oil level. Two dash 10 vent lines from drivers side of sump (unused atm) Hi octane style cam cover breather kit Splash covers over last 2 cam caps. Both breather lines from cam covers to vented to atmosphere catch can, not plumbed back into sump (wanted to see what it was actually breathing). Got it run in (did about a 1000km) no to low boost scenario, As I had questions over old ECU setup. Installed haltech +sensors for flex Retune on E85 (finding CAS Issue along the way), made 300rwkw at 20psi, out of wastegate. Did a drift day the next day (yes, it was a big weekend!) and was checking catch can throughout the day, ZERO blowby. I mean nothing. Lines from cam covers are not even wet. Done a bunch of street driving, spirited and catch can is still dry. Early days I guess, but pretty happy so far. Also now run 10w60, up from the 10w40 that I used to run. Oil pressure is significantly better, especially when hot (as you would expect)
    • Thanks buddy. I thought it was a server storage thing. 🤣
    • Perfect! Thanks for this, both look like great options!
