Howdy Sandgroupers,

I'm coming over to W.A. with my GT-R at the end of July for the Dutton Rally of W.A (July 25-27). Unfortunately the transport rules doesn't allow us to keep anything in the cars when we ship them so I can't bring any spares or parts or anything.

Most of it I am ok to bring across myself when I fly over but my biggest issue is a spare set of wheels / tyres. My plan is to ship the car across on my back-up tyres (as I'm going to visit Barbagallo the weekend before Dutton for a shakedown) and then buy some new tyres over there the week leading up to Dutton.

What I'm hoping is that someone out there can lend me a set of rims sized from 18x9.0 to 18x10.5 for the event (they might have to be rays rims as well as I know the internal diameter of the standard R34 GTR rims doen't fit over my 375mm brakes!). There is a 99.99% chance I won't even need to use these rims however. Basically they will just be with me as a back-up in the event I get a puncture until I can get the offical tyre repaired. As a form of payment to anyone that lends me some rims I will give them the back-up 265/35/18 RE55's that I'll put onto the rims to keep once I head back to Vic.

Let me know if anyone can help an SAUer out.

Cheers

Snowy

I'm car 17 (Its the big angry blue one :) )

I'll also be at AHG this Sunday morning although I still don't know if my car will arrive in time for this weekend (it's touch and go). If not I'll be using a mates 350Z this weekend.

Awesome - you'll be in our group all weekend too (I actually expect the cut-off to be around 30-35 rather than 50 as posted due to numbers. I'm hoping that it is 35 though so that Steve Jones and Jamie are in group 1).

I know Gav and Chris/Matt are coming along but anyone else along for the ride this year? I see a lot of the fast locals from last year are missing (Boxes , Freidricks/Lim and a bunch of others) but there's quite a few fast Easterners coming across this year so it would be good to see some local talent and cars taking up the challenge.

I'll be with Gav and Chris, as we're all sharing a support vehicle, Gav's ute :)

Yeah, I hope Steve Jones is in our group too, saw the Evo on the track last Thursday, and it's looking good

Brockas(White R33 GTR) is car number 31 I think, so he'll be in our group too :(

Yeah Blaise and I are taking bets as to how long the 3 stupid power EVO's will last for the weekend before they break.

Steves is going to get punished by Jamie. LOL

But the chances of any of the Cherry/Ledger, Notaris/Fin or Jones getting to the end are slim in my book (unless its wet all weekend).

Speaking of which it'd be great if you could organise 3 days of sunshine for me. Cheers for that.

Also - if you hadn't heard apparently the BP in Harvey is closed for renovations so if you guys use 98 fuel you'll need to pick it up from somewhere else before going to Collie.

Bart, You wouldn't fit in with the cool crowd anyway :ermm:

Snowy, We're staying in Bunno Thursday night, so we'll grab fuel on the way out, we're taking plenty of jerry cans aswell, so you won't run out of fuel. Yes Jamie is a much harsher driver than Steve, but I think they will be competitive. I just hope there isn't much competition in the RWD class for me, as my co-driver is crap :D

    • Sadly I can confirm if you are actually seeking to drift, you will quite easily spin up one wheel. Even if you're going in a straight line. I am not entirely sure of the metrics/terminology here but there's only a certain amount that the helical will actually spin both wheels. I've seen it on video with my own car where two lines of smoke switch over to just one after you really get in to it. Unlike with a clutch diff where you can keep your foot planted until the car regains grip, in my experience with the helical you want to be utilizing traction control allowing LIMITED slip or lifting (partially) when you start to spin up both tyres with a Nissan helical. Which makes them pretty sub optimal for drifting duty. That said... this is probably a helical on numbers alone. Just put the Kazz in
    • Let's just fix the problem by f**king the rest of the gearbox.
    • Unlikely, as per Greg's post. This is not helical diff behaviour unless one wheel is up off the ground. Shimming what? You don't "shim" a mechanical LSD. Probably not in the sense that you have heard of people "shimming" a diff. And the process that Nissan f**kwits call "shimming" a diff involves super-preloading a VLSD cartridge against the side of the diff to create a friction/wear point (in a place that it wasn't supposed to have one) to make the sloppy, useless, viscous diff into a hybrid viscous/mech abortion. In case it isn't clear, I consider the process to be stupid. Nike.
    • How much does the shifter move when the car is in gear with the engine off? If it is more than about 1cm you need to replace your shifter bush. Your shifts will just get crunchier, not faster, with a short shifter unless you also rebuild the whole box
    • I should video mine, will prob do it tomorrow    Between 1st and 3rd, you could fit another two gears. That is how loose and wobbly it is   horrible:(
