shredder667
hey guys, am sadly parting with the gtr due to paying over $100 a week to fill it and it not being very practical but i need some advice. basically i'm going for a hatch, probably either a mazda 3 or a golf. question though - i'm really keen on the idea of putting whatever i get on gas, but what can you put on gas? obviously the petrol cars will go fine on gas, but what about turbo petrol or turbo diesel? cheers guys! JAS-25T
The use of LPG on diesel cars is not the same as on Petrol cars. In petrol cars it's used as replacement fuel In diesel cars it is an additive to the fuel. You should read some more about it before going ahead as it is two different applications with varying results. Personally I have heard good things about LPG being used on diesel, in the way of fuel economy and power increases. .:: GimpS-R34 ::.
Well firstly I would look into how much you will save on fuel v the cost of converting.. yes you get the rebate back.. but how long do you need to wait.. and then you still gotta pay for some of it.. and you need to work out how much you will save and then see how long it will take to "make that money back in savings" as jason has stated it isnt the same.. yes you can covert with turbo.. but also if your not dedicating to lpg and going duel.. wont petrol/lpg be the better option as diesel is shite atm and couple of times has ran out at servos.. also something to think about.. when all these coversions are done and more rely on gas.. do you think the government isnt goin to raise the tax on it.. and companies wont charge more? JAS-25T
Craig, You might as well have said: "who knows if you wont be dead tomorrow, so why do anything." Nick I wouldn't worry too much, just educate yourself about it, and make an informed decision...... madbung
Sequential gas-diesel injection systems are excellent, you get very noticable power gains, drivability and fuel savings...well worth the effort. .:: GimpS-R34 ::.
yeah but no point paying $2000 - $3000 to convert... wait 5months for refund of $2000.. then find you save $10 - $20 a week and taking 1 -2 yrs to make your money back.. for some the cost to convert doesnt weigh upto the cost you save.. research is what he needs to do.. and i gave a point to research about.. he's think bout this as he wants to save running costs.. so it was worth mentioning Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/221580-diesel-v-gas/#findComment-3906347 Share on other sites

More power and a far better driving car, for less fuel..I'd suggest it's well worth it, I know 1 or 2 people that would be very happy to spend 2-3k to get a 20% performance gain in their skyline..Difference is they won't be spending less on fuel afterwards. It really is a win/win Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/221580-diesel-v-gas/#findComment-3907452 Share on other sites

FATGTS-R
Been thinking about lpg for my daily as well. LPG has been 60.9 cents at my local servo all year. Yes, lpg uses more to go the same distance. Many people say 33% more which would make the comparative LPG cost 80 cents a litre which is still half price. In my situation I use at present $60 a week in fuel so on LPG it would be $30. A $3,000 conversion minus the $2,000 rebate, and the remaining $1,000 would be paid off in 34 weeks. If I can get a system that uses less than 33% more than petrol then it will pay itself even faster. nizmonut
i would be keen to know what the top gear crew did to that m3 diesil they raced recently. it appeared to have alot of power and much more torque than its petrol version. TiTAN
The car they raced wasnt an M3, it was just the 3 series diesel (335D?) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/221580-diesel-v-gas/#findComment-3911662 Share on other sites
JAS-25T
Generally all diesels have more torque than their petrol equivalent, it's inherent to it's design. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/221580-diesel-v-gas/#findComment-3911738 Share on other sites
WIHAGTR
Converting my daily to gas was the best decision i've ever made, i now pay 37 bucks to fill up and it gets me 420 km's. It costed me 2750 to convert it and the 750 would have been payed off in less then half a year, except gas has doubled in price since i converted my car and hopefully it will stay at 60 cents. Problem is the government are pricks, we are paying for imported gas prices even though we get it from our country... bastardos. Anyway i got my refund in less than one week. Problem is my car is now as weak as a stick... up a hill with AC on... no go. mid life crisis
ive done hunderds of gas conversions altho not onto diesal or the newer direct injection but as a rule of thumb you should use 1.2 lt of gas to go the same distance on a litre of petrol most turbo cars run great on lpg we did a mazda rx3 turbo mwe converted that to run straightn lpg only went like a cut snake . my ac cobra 302 windsor was a straight lpg conversion no worries with that one either. most of our customers are getting there rebate back in 10 to 14 days cheers mid life crisis Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/221580-diesel-v-gas/#findComment-3919431 Share on other sites
