ok some more news. i took it to the dealer, they recon the spark plugs gaps were too big and they reset them. so yer it ran fine for 396km, then the miss came back. and now it keeps dropping into safe mode/low boost mode when it warms up. and it missing so bad that it feels like the rev/speed limiter. it clears some times and pulls on its massive 3-4psi but yer still nothing special. has anyone had any problems with there exhaust blocking up?? any one had any problems with the hks exhaust from jjr.

thank you for any info

yer i was leaning that way, but my missus said she thinks the exhaust is blocked so what did i do. i ordered a hks exhaust from jjr. so if that doesnt do anything il try to get her to let me buy the coil packs, but the biggest issue is that it is still under the warranty from the dealer but they wont email me back.

have you checked the coil packs?

this has been suggested but i don't think you have ever clarified whether they have been checked/replaced.

most of us run plug gaps of about 0.8mm vs 1.1mm.

at standard boost with healthy coils 1.1mm gap shouldn't be a problem. if the dealer reset the gaps and the same issue then it isn't the plug gap.

i still think it is coil packs.

ok i finally got around to changing the plugs, i installed some bcpr6e gapped at .813. but the weird thing is that the dealer ship lied, when i pulled the plugs out they look as though they have neva been touched, all the pipes were tight as hell considering that they were suposed to have removed them 2 weeks ago. and also the plugs i pulled out were bcpr5es-11's. but now it is running sweet as with the bcpr6e's. does the 's' make that big of a diffrence?? and no i havent checked the coils as i dont know how to test them

"s"just stands for standard super copper core electrode

5 is higher up the heat range than 6 but I don't know if that would make a dramatic difference

11 means pre-gapped at 1.1mm

The improvement probably comes from the fact that you have put in new plugs.

Yep. And once you run those plugs for a few hundred kms, you'll get the same problem again. :)

Can we say it enough to you ... coil packs

coil packs

coil packs

coil packs.

:(

ok ok u win, later in the week when it comes back my missus might let me buy some split fires

i forgot to say, the hks exhaust from just jap bolted straight on and fixed my boosting issue. but in the change over process some one got carried away(me) and killed the cat with a steel bar. should i replace it??

there is a DIY thread on using high temp silicon on your coil packs.

go the the DIY section, buy a tube and go to town if you want to save a few $$'s. there is nothing magical about splitfires v standard coils but the heat cracks them and the result is a misfire under load.

from japan my car had this issue (S2 RS4S). my R33 GTS-t lasted from 2001 until 2007 until they were stuffed.

a larger higher flowing cat is worthwhile particularly if you have damaged the inside of the cat.

in all honesty is there a way they can prove that there is no internals in my cat, they would need to prove it to wright the fine, so i think the cat can wait until the car actually works.

ok its been 5000kms since i put the plugs in and the miss has come back and its just like it was when i bought it. should i just change the plugs to something diffrent or buy some splitfires and hope it fixes it??

When the coil packs are faulty and spark is escaping out of them you can actually hear it.

Pop your bonnet with your engine running on idle, listen closely to the engine and only touch the accelerator cable a smidge to get the revs up only a couple hundred rpm's.....

you might then hear a clear 'ticking' sound - thats a spark escaping out of the coil pack onto wherever it can find metal around it.... at high rpm... thats your problem.... Coil Packs!! :(

A mechanic showed me this when I was selling my R34 - they buyer told me they changed the coil packs - the noise was gone and it ran perfect.
