yeh i second that. its definately the best rear end ive seen since Bar 20 in Melbourne last March.

hope it all works like intended, otherwise autosalon is a go. must be a good feeling to hear the engine run. well done guys. Barons got me freeking now that every time i brake im going to go around.. lol.

haha, don't stress. you will get a feel for it quick smart mate, and it's easy enough to catch. just means don't trail any brake once you start to turn in proper. and you shouldn't really be doing that anyway, but it can be a hard habit to break. I did notice though a lot of the V8SC guys at oran were trailing some brake (no idea how much) all the way to the apex. I guess you have that luxury when you have a team of engineers to sort out your car, and have in cabin adjustable anti-roll bars, and adjustable roll centre too.

duncan is right too, i'm sure new bushes would cure about 80% of the rear end instability in R32s, the rest is down to new arms, and cradle mods and set-up.

anyway stu, I need to have a little drive soon to come check out your car mate. you done some great stuff and I'd love to come check it out. will I still be allowed in if I drive over in the RX7 an not the GTR? :P

yeh cool, just dont make a habit of it lol.

You never sent your delivery guy to pick it up Neil.

Its been sitting in the same place with the sample waiting for someone to pick it up or for the next time I was over that way to drop it off.

Thanks dude,,,got it today. I'm happy now.

Neil.

We can make that if we get our gearbox issues sorted.

I've got an Os 5 speed at home at the moment.. 1-4 gears looks like its in pretty good nic too..

was considering selling it since my T88 was nicked in transit from my new rust bucket......

P.s. that rear end looks sweet!!!! lots of adjustment to be had there hopefully it will sort out well :)

Andrew, interested in the gearbox, what are the specs?

As for the cradle, you can get 90% of the benefit cheaper and easier by buying off the shelf parts. We went all the way, but you can do most of it by buying the parts from Just Jap and UAS.

My suggestion would be to use the alloy cradle mount bushes from UAS, and all the suspension arms from Just Jap. The cradle mounts will drop you about 25 - 30mm and make it solid mount, and the arms will give you all the rose joint stiffness and adjustment.

The other modifications for hicas removal and raising the mounting points are good, but they are the expensive parts and the only give you a limited amount of improvement, the above will give you the best benefits per buck, and other than pushing out the old cradle bushes, the rest is very easy to do, most of the work is in dropping the cradle and loosening all the old, rusted on, never turned in 20 years bolts.

I think i have all solid alloy bushes throughout front/gearbox/rear. (were on my car when it came from japan.)

there were loads of goodies on my car when it came in from japan.. its up on jack stands i should get some photos of the underside. loads of bracing too..

as for the box..

i have no idea on the specs Heres a photo of it from lastnite all i can tell is its 1-4 with 5th standard..

i'm wondering if i should sell my 6 speed nismo upgraded getrag/os rc3 clutch and use it instead.

It's very purty!

Don't know much about gearboxes, but from the looks this is a helical gear set and I think we're after a straight cut. As to which one to use, again can't really help. Have hear of problems with 6 speed, but if it's been upgraded then who knows.

yeah its helical for sure, you'd be better off with a straight cut dog box. the par group buy suited for you better??

i think this would suit someone more for street/drag i'd think.. i'll get it looked at and chuck it up on the forum for high price :)

i' was so releived when i saw it lastnite. so much drama with this rust bucket of a car i wasnt sure it would all work out in the end..

Speak to Snowman, he put an R33 box in his R34 - i think it was due to better ratios for skidpan work, but doesnt hurt to check

Yeah problem is i really like the 6 speed :) had a trust dog box in before which had similar ratios to the 34 box with the 32 diff ratios it seems to be alrite. well i think so anyway!

be aware the nismo upgrade to your 34 box is just a stronger input shaft. so gears etc will all be standard. they made the upgdraded input shafts as a lot of 34 owners ended up with twisted input shafts once they had decent power and a strong clutch. so nismo used to sell the nismo twin plates with the upgraded input shaft. having the 6 speed is nice though. makes for good freeway driving. it would be even better I reckon with a set of GTS4 diff gears.

Yee its just the imput shaft.. (damn bastard of a thing took me and Kris about 4 goes to get the right clutch for it) its a supra sized spline or some shit. the gearset should be good for power aslong as i dont do crazy launches i guess..

i might look into gts4 gears when i get back up and running again. i'm not sure what to ask but do they give me a higher top speed?? or more acceleration? (caus i could do without the later) haha.

I'm pretty sure that pretty much every single person reading the Motorsport section of SAU would have already done all the bolt-on mods you mention :) :)

Cradle mounting point modifications are what interest us :D

The UAS aluminium cradle bushes will take care of some of the problems and will give you the same results as the ones I welded on. This applies to the cradle to chassis mounting points only. The suspension mounting points are also beneficial, but I would say less so than the raising the whole cradle, which the UAS bushes will accomplish. It's an easy and relatively cheap first step that is not in any way wasted if you decide to have the other mounting points done.

    • I’d love to find some where that can recover the dashes to look brand new and original. Mine has a very slight bubble, nothing compared to some I’ve seen though
    • $170K. I asked one of the guys there as a joke if that price was just for the passenger seat as it was where the price sheet was... he tried really hard to crack a smile 😄 He also mentioned that every single part of the car was inspected and either restored or replaced with a new or as new part, or made from scratch. The interior was incredible, every inch like a new car.
    • Time for a modernisation, throw out the AFM, stock O2s, ECU into the e-waste bin. Rip out the cable throttle, IACV, pedal, etc. into the scrap metal bin. DBW, e-throttle, modern ECU, CANbus wideband, and the thing will drive better than when it left the factory.
    • I agree, don't go trusting those trims. As I said, first step is to put the logger away, and do the basics in diagnosis.   I spend plenty of time with data loggers. I also spend plenty of time teaching "technicians" why they need to stop using their data loggers, and learn real diagnostics.   The amount of data logs I play with would probably blow most people away. I don't just use it to diagnose. I log raw CAN data too, as a nice chunk of my job is reverse engineering what automotive manufacturers are doing.
    • I'm aware, but unless you're actually seeing the voltage the ECU is seeing and you're able to verify the sensors are actually working I find it hard to just trust STFT/LTFT. I will say, logging the ECU comes naturally to me because it's one of the lowest effort methods of diagnosis and I do similar things in my day job all the time. Staring at 20+ charts looking for something that isn't quite right isn't for everyone. NDS1 allows you to log almost everything so that's normally what I do and then sort out the data later.
