But yeah was definitely serious about some instruction. My biggest probs I think are braking too early and a few corners where my lines are all wrong.

Chris I would bring her out, but she will most likely be in the middle or being tuned/moddified. Also at that point in time the mods will send me broke lol.

Lucky its that way tho as if I did come with 250 at the wheels for example id fry a few tyres, turbo and prob the engine feeling the groove... Hope to see some nice shots of the day tho. If all falls into place early and I feel confident enough with the car with mods close to the date im in.. but doubt it will happen so fast .. Caash.

Never been on the track before either, but I think if your tyres aren't bald/nearly bald and depending on how you drive the current set of tyres you have on your car is going to do just fine. Someone confirm this? Because if I'm wrong I might need some rubber :D

Google maps says that it takes about 3.25 hours to get from the Northern Beaches of Sydney to Wakefield... I think one would be able to do it in less, without breaking any laws even.

Yeah, I guess that's fair enough Joe - it gives you something to aim for if you have others to judge yourself against, and I suppose it's always nice to have bragging rights when you do a better time than them.

Hmmm, you've stated that you still don't want to become a member, but do you have any suggestions of what we should be doing to bring more people (including maybe yourself) in? It'd be good to hear some constructive criticism instead of you just saying "the way you guys are going about it is crap..."

i stated that i wouldnt become a member again when the whore threads closed down, it was the only reason i became a member in the first place. and what i dont understand is how sau nsw members are any better than non members to have a whore thread in there. when you can answer me that then it will be something i consider.

well Duncan, if we're giving out opinions here, i'll go to lengths as to say that you are a typical admin hiding behind his pretty green icon, the difference between me and you is i'll say the things i post in person - people on here who know me well enough know im not the 'keyboard warrior' you'd like to think i am.

i also wont be manipulated into going to a track day to prove anything to you. i know how things can go wrong in a car, especially on a track day and know the cost of the fcuk ups if your bases arent covered. truth is i've been more into my drag racing than track in the past 4yrs but i've spent alot of time lately getting my car right for the track and its still not ready yet.

the only things left are tyres and my tune (which i do myself) and she's ready to go. i'm not a 'cheque book racer' who will pay someone else lots of $$ to get my car right, thats not how i get things done and i dont think thats what true motor-sporting is about.

my car is driven daily so if anything goes pop it puts a huge dent in my usual day-to-day which i'm sure you have no clue about. but in saying that, she should be ready soon and the next track day looks like a go.

Wakfield is about 1.5hrs from the Mobil servo at Pheasants Nest on the highway (picton rd exit) - how long it takes you to get there depends where you live in sydney.

I'm sure there will be a cruise down on the morning, but a lot of the people will be staying in goulburn overnight so they do have a 6am start

I think you will find that with 75% of the guys in the club, they do their work on their own, to the best of their ability. When they know they are in too deep thats when they move it over to a workshop to get done. I was one of them.

They also have a lot of daily drivers that attend these days, I was also one of these.

When you are out on the track, you are encouraged not to go too hard on your first go, but to ease into it. Especially with the driver experience of the senior members. The whole feel of the day is about having fun and learning. Getting faster during the day is a bonus :)

Also, being a club member for over 4yrs now I have seen very few cars go pop in that time. Usually when it does happen it is one of three things.

1 - the motor was destined to die anyway, even street driving would have caused it.

2 - the driver was mistaking their ability for their ambitions and thrashing the hell out of the car.

3 - it was a rotory ahhahahaha ;)

We encourage everyone to drive within their limits, and teach new "ambitious" drivers to slow down and learn how to drive the right way before they get over excited and do something dangerous to the car, or others out on the track. No one wants to lose 1hr of track time to clean up oil from a busted motor. ;)

I'm in no way trying to convince or manipulate you into coming, just making sure we are clear on what the club offers on its track days as opposed to a regular "no limit" wakefield day.

i wasnt talking to the general public in my post, i was talking directly to Duncan about the whole cheque book racer thing. i know alot of guys on here do their own work and thats highly respected. its just the guys who throw big $ at their cars and think they're so awesome that just dont get it.

i know its remote to have something let go but i melted a piston at WSID 3yrs ago, then rebuilt it, then recently my motor started to feel a bit tired so i scrapped it and threw in a fresh rebuilt motor. i'll be heading out to the track soon, i just dont want anything to go wrong especially with the auto box.

I'm pretty sure Duncan isn't a cheque book racer. I know for a fact he is constantly pulling apart his motor himself.. and not paying someone else to do it.

Yeah, that's fair enough, but by the same token it wasn't the club's decision to remove those chat threads, it was the decision of the forum admins. I was pretty annoyed at it too... I liked the separate sections as it allowed me to connect with people in my geographical area and those areas I visit regularly.

well when you blow the same motor 6 times you're bound to learn a thing or 2.

my point is i dont shit stir and thats what the mods think i do. unlike most of the people on here i give off my true opinions and there is no problem in doing that. my opinions will be the same whether it be in a thread or in person.

Id say get a nice fresh set of good street tyres if you can :D

After a few sessions, they will wear down and get "squirmy" but if you dont push too hard, they'll be fine :)

I also had a few pro's in the car with me, and the advice they gave me and tips, was just priceless - dead set, takes seconds off your lap time. Some of the senior members here, like Duncan, can help get your eye in, turn in points, brake points, everyone - Id jump at the chance to have someone like these guys in the front with you :)

I know I will! and Ive already called shot gun for Duncan first LOL

    • Oh yeah forgot to also mention need to also unplug the IACV as well. Thanks for the reminder @MBS206 Unplugging the TPS takes it out of closed loop so you're able to screw down the IACV without the ECU trying to add/subtract timing to maintain the idle (not sure PowerFC can even do this, but Nistune and the OEM definitely does)

    • I've had two suzukis in the past have an extremely hard time turning over and not starting after sitting for a few weeks. Ended up the alternator would seize up causing the starter to force. Same issue both times.  Maybe they're sourcing their alternators from the same place...

    • On the R34 can't you just unplug the IACV? This is the way I've always done it on the R33. Disconnect IACV, get it idling around 650rpm, and then do a power reset on the ECU to get it to relearn idle (factory ECU).   The big reason no one has touched on as to why you'd want to get the base idle right, is that it means the computer needs to make smaller adjustments to get a good idle at 700-750rpm.   Also, cleaning the IACV won't normally make the car suddenly idle lower or higher. The main issue with the IACV gumming up is that the valve sticks. This means the inputs the ECU gives, aren't translating to changes in air flow. This can cause idle choppy ness as the ECU is now needing to give a lot of input to get movement, but then it moves too far, and then has to do the same in reverse, and it can mean the ECU can't catch stalls quickly either.
