Hi all

My rear demister stopped working the other day, ive checked power at the switch and pulled the switch apart to look inside and everything seems fine so im guessing it could be somewhere else down the line

the other day i disconnected the wire that auto locks the passanger door when the car goes over 20kmh (or watever speed) and hooked up my turbo timer to my speed sensor wire that goes into the ecu (except this wire was cut from the ecu and run to a wire that went down the passanger side, not sure why......)

i doubt the speed sensor wire would have anything to do with the demister, nor the central locking system but im gunna try reconnecting them just to see.

if anyone has any ideas throw them out and ill give them a go

any more info needed just ask

Cheers

btw: unsure if it was working or not b4 i did these changes, i had the car jack out the day b4 i did it

i dunno much about the demister system like if theres something located somewhere else in the car for it

need some help

get a test light and put it on the rear dimister lines if that makes sence, or test with multimeter if it reads low voltage then the demister paint is probly worn. it happened to mine one day it worked and day later it stopped. To fix it i got some special dimister paint and painted over the weak points where low voltage was recorded. works all good now. let me no how u go and i assist you.

hey

ive already had a multimeter on the back of the switch and it reads 12ish volts on one of the plugs all the time (constant power)

12ish volts on one plug with the lights on (illum wire)

12ish volts on another plug when the switch is held in

it doesnt seem to work when i just hold it in either, its a weird one cause it worked fine up until the other day, it actually worked really well and would demist really quick

ive checked the fuse and its ok is there anything else like this that i can check?

is there a demister module or something in the car?

not a huge problem atm but def something i want to fix

are the c-pillar covers just clipped on?

basically its like the switch is sending power to the demister but its not turning it on and keeping it on

i dunno, just want to try and get it sorted, will look at the connections on the c pillar once someone tells me how to get them off

cheers

they are just clipped on, but will take some work to remove. im pretty sure the rear shit bars are bolted through the panel, lower B pillar clips into this section holding it on too.

just need to look at it to work out what needs removing.

haha if you searched for the thred about someone else that was telling people to cut this wire i actualy told them not to for this very reason.

it has stoped working becuase you cut that wire.the two share the same power wire.cant remember how it works as i tested it a long time ago.but i can tell you 100% if you hook it back up again to where it should be all will be fine.

i didnt read much of this thread as i already knew the answer so sorry if its already been answerd for you.

Jack

ahh i see, thought it might have had something to do with that, thats kinda annoying but cause its good not having the passanger door lock

is it possible to run an alternate power supply to this wire so the doors will still not lock but the demister will still work? i might go back to the diy forum (and search as well) to see if anyone has done it)

Thanks Jack88, had a big weekend planned for the weekend just gone and have been working heaps so havent really had time to play around with to much so just needed someone to help me out

so appreciate that, ill check it out tomorrow if its not raining again

cheers

not a problem mate. you can get around it.the most simplest way to do it is to run and alternate power supply on a seperate switch to the demister switch in the dash.

i managed to get it all working a while ago but i couldnt be botherd with it anymore so just put it all back to normal

to do it youl have to test everything again and just work out whats what, once youv done that it should be pritty obveious what ya need to hook up.

Jack

sweet as

so basically im missing power from one of the wires that comes to the demister switch? or am i missing an earth that is made buy going through the central locking box?

theoretically if i was to wire up something like...... may as well take the hazard light switch as its right next to it, bridge the wire from one to the other (depending on if its earth or power of course....) she would be sweet?

eh probably confused everyone there haha. oh well if anyones done it and is willing to tell me how or show me a thread where its been done it would be much appreciated :D

cheers

ok from memory i had it set up so i had an alternate earth going to the demister switch which was on another switch itself so when the switch was activated the demister and the auto locking worked and when it was off nether worked. in the end when i was mucking around with it i couldnt get the 2 circuits sepertated without the use of a couple of replays which i just couldnt be botherd setting up.

in the end i just decided to live with the auto locking lol.

sorry i cant fill you in on any more information but i really cant remember what else i did.your just going to have to do some testing and work out what needs to be done.

ahh i see, thought it might have had something to do with that, thats kinda annoying but cause its good not having the passanger door lock

seriously wtf....... the door locks... when you stop you hit the button and people can get out... why go to ANY trouble to disbale this feature?

because i dont need my door to lock automatically?

I was purely seeing how hard it was to have both the demister work and auto door lock feature disabled....... i know have it set back to factory with the door locking automatically

no its not a big inconvienience to let someone out when i stop but its so much easier if the door doesnt lock....

thanks for your help Jack88 but i think im with you in saying it is to much effort to set it up so that i have what i want. Thought it would be a bit easier then that haha

oh well

Cheers for the help guys

lol another reason to disable it is to avoide the strange looks people give you when you pick then up and the door locks....the usial response from me is it was the car not me lol.

as i have said before, its possible but as for how much effort your willing to go to to make it work is another thing all together.

thats no problem at all boostin96.
