depending on the trim both do similar jobs, on Rb20 i prefer to use the TD06S-L2-20g (remmeber L2) as it gives the best balance between response and top end. Expect 240-270rkw depending on mods and full boost 1.3bar by 4000-4300.

Forget any other TD06 on there unless you are after big numbers the TD06sh-25g is too big and the TD06S-19c is too small.

Thanks Will dump pipe fit? How much for used ?

Sorry for hijack, but it's on topic.

I thought the TD06 was a journal bearing, and the Garrett's are Ball Bearing.

Would you get extra performance, durability, driveability, blah, blah from the ball bearing model?

marketing hype and nothing else. I sell garret, hks, trust etc and honestley my best advice is to buy a turbo based on its trim and result not the information contained in glossy brochures.

i had a TD06-20g on a rb25 track car that was over 12yrs old that is still going strong.

With regards to which one is better i say the TD06 is about the best thing for a std RB20. A GT3071 is close, from there its really the bolt on convenience of a 2530 etc. So have to question whether the price of the greddy manifold, gate, turbo labour etc etc is worth the extra 30-40rwkws you will get.

The 2530 will have a bit more grunt down low, but when i say a bit i mean a bit, you perhaps trade off 10-15 rwkws at 4,000rpm as the RB20 doesnt seem to want to make power below 4,300rpm no matter what turbo you put on it

So which is better, hard to say, one is more expensive and very illegal, the other is cheaper and can scrape through a roadside inspection

    • I definitely agree with you there - I never click on content for cars I would never ever be able to get or compete with/against/be seen next to. Seeing a MX5 compete with a FD RX7 will make people upset though, for sure. Even in 2.5L Turbo form which is pretty grass roots. (or at least as grass roots as classic cars can be) Yes we're all classic car owners now.
    • Wonder what the cause is, but here's hoping it's nothing too serious.
    • People don't always want builds that are overly expensive, or have engineering/registration/insurance issues and head aches that come with them Whilst big dollar builds, and complicated stuff is interesting to watch, there is only a tiny % of people who would actually use this information, or have the spare finances to drop on said builds, whereas the buy a cheap(ish) cool car, and make it better, with a average budget, that the average Joe or Jane could achieve will always be a winner in my opinion
    • Bit of a thread revival, you mentioned wanting a bit more top end before, do you regret not going with the 1.01?
    • It's kind of interesting - They definitely do builds that split the difference between what they like and what will generate views and engagement. The NC Platform always surprises everyone in a good way, in an uncomfortably good way some may say. They could throw a LS in there and arguably have the best (and best performing) car of the entire stable. But that isn't necessarily what draws views, because people viewing don't want to accept the vegetables of a LS NC MX5 being a superior vehicle in every way (including fun) than a RB26 240Z. This is also why there's not a lot of content about the GR Yaris (on the web in general). They're too good, yet 'only a Yaris' The community doesn't want certain cars to be as good as they are - to beat their hero cars, and I believe the NC MX5 is absolutely one of those cars.
