Hi, I'm thinking of getting a V35 import. Are there any V35 owners in Canberra, Sydney or Brisbane who would let me see their cars.

I know this sounds creepy, but I'm really not sure if I want to move away from a s15 if the v35 is going to be too cushy.

I'm based in Canberra, and I'll be visiting Sydney and Brisbane in the next month or so...

Regardless it'd be nice to meet other Nissan enthusiasts...

Hi Mike,

there are plenty of import dealerships that have imported + complianced V35's sitting on their car yard for sale

if you're interested in looking at a V35 in detail go to an import dealer and have a thorough looker over it and take it for a drive. its the best way to do it as then they have dealer insurance for when you test drive the car

the V35 and S15 are 2 very different cars for 2 very different styles of driving and personality.. do you want to drift or to cruise a in luxury sports tourer?

I'm an ex super-sprint competitor, so I like a car that is precise and maneuvrable. My s15 has Tein coilovers and mild engine mods.

I gather the V35 is alot heavier, and not quite as agile, but I just want to assess if I can handle the extent of change, and I'd also be interested to hear from any V35 owners who have done handling mods.

Personally i think the car is fine from a handling perspective. It definately has an element of understeer but so do the Z's. Adjustable sway bars can fix this and even non adjustables go some way to correcting it.

I 've got Nismo shocks, springs and sway bars and it's a massive improvement on stock.

The positive for the V35 is it's almost perfect weight distribution front to rear.

At a track day I had one of the instructors take my car for 2 laps and he was amazed at just how well it handled.

They are a very well balanced car.

Ive had an S15 as a previous ride also- with a few mods coilovers etc.

Different animal altogether.

The V's FM layout has you totally bewildered the first few times you drive it (ass end of mine came out cornering too hard,first drive in wet,lucky VDC kicked in). As you get to work out the car- you then find you can REALLY push into and out of a corner with good speed. My girl's S15's I now get quite scared driving it as it feels like its going to fling out at any stage. It is just too easy to throw an S15 around.

The V is more of touring car, and more gentlemanly- less road noise, more comfort, more style. :kiss: I jumped in a 08 Z and looked at the interior and was really dissapointed for what you pay for.

I have 70th Anniversary model LTD, so I much prefer the ivory interior over any of the premium models. But im used to light colored interiors over the S15 plastic black.

Personally its nice change of sceney to the S15, there was nothing else to choose from either in the same price bracket. O RX8- looked them and was very quickly turned off.

Plus fuel consumption i s pretty dam good.

Keep reading old threads and Im sure you find a natural progression from S'series Nissans to this.

A mate of mine also works in Canberra and just bought an 05 Black Manual last week. Im sure I can tee up a look for you also.

Still, the 350Z has less weight, a stiffer chassis and better cooling from the factory. As a "pure sports car" it still makes a more obvious choice.

Still, I gather its not entirely what Mike is after. I'm pretty sure Mike has a track toy, so the slightly softer setup in the V35 might be right up his alley.

Mike, I didn't reply to you on NSCC directly but I've driven an auto V35 as well as owning my 350Z. The V35 is a lot softer to ride in. The sounds are more muted, and the chassis is slightly less willing to respond on turn-in. The Z is already a lot softer than the S15, so initially you might find it a bit soft. However, the body control and stability is far superior in the FM platform compared to the S chassis, so you'll find yourself going far faster than you think you are.

However, there's almost nothing in it and if you're never going to track the car the V35 is, in my opinion, a better option. Its nice having rear seats, and the front seats are significantly more comfortable.

I'd love to have a full FM-platform garage. Gutted 350Z for track, light tune V35 coupe for daily driving, and an AWD M35 Stagea for carrying stuff.

    • Very decent bit of kit. Definitely black it out I reckon.  
    • Because people who want that are buying euros. The people with the money to buy the aftermarket heads and blocks aren’t interested in efficiency or making -7 power, they’re making well over 1,000hp and pretty much only drive them at full throttle  best way to way make money is know your customer base and what they want and don’t spend money making things they don’t want. 
    • It's not, but it does feel like a bit of a missed opportunity regardless. For example, what if the cylinder head was redesigned to fit a GDI fuel system? It's worth like two full points of compression ratio when looking at modern GDI turbo vs PFI turbo. I'm pretty reliably surprised at how much less turbo it takes to make similar power out of a modern engine vs something like an RB26. Something with roughly the same dimensions as a -7 on an S55 is making absolutely silly power numbers compared to an RB26. I know there's a ton of power loss from things like high tension rings, high viscosity oil, clutch fan, AWD standby loss, etc but it's something like 700 whp in an F80 M3 vs 400 whp in an R33 GTR. The stock TF035HL4W turbos in an F80 M3 are really rather dinky little things and that's enough to get 400 whp at 18 psi. This just seems unwise no? I thought the general approach is if you aren't knock limited the MFB50 should be held constant through the RPM range. So more timing with RPM, but less timing with more cylinder filling. A VE-based table should accordingly inverse the VE curve of the engine.
    • I've seen tunes from big name workshops with cars making in excess of 700kW and one thing that stood out to me, is that noone is bothering with torque management. Everyone is throwing in as much timing as the motor can take for a pull. Sure that yields pretty numbers on a dyno, but it's not keeping these motors together for more than a few squirts down the straight without blowing coolant or head gaskets. If tuners, paid a bit more attention and took timing out in the mid range, managed boost a bit better, you'll probably see less motors grenading. Not to name names, or anything like that, but I've seen a tune, from a pretty wild GT-R from a big name tuner and I was but perplexed on the amount of timing jammed into it. You would have expected a quite a bit less timing at peak torque versus near the limiter, but there was literally 3 degrees of difference. Sure you want to make as much as possible throughout the RPM range, but why? At the expense of blowing motors? Anyhow I think we've gone off topic enough once again lol.
    • Because that’s not what any of them are building these heads or blocks for. It’s to hold over over 1000hp at the wheels without breaking and none of that stuff is required to make power
