hey guys, my r33 has got some problems i need to fix asap, firstly, sometimes when i start it, it seems as if there is a boost leak or sumthing, it doesnt stay on, just turns on and off??so i drive it revving abit?...then sometimes it just gets better and runs normal??..ill check that up 2morrow tho...2ndly, the car makes heaps of popping noise (backfires) when you let go of the accelerator and slow down, it pops like 15 times (pop, pop, pop,.....15 times)...it's real loud and scares people next to me, (i hope i dont get a cop next to me!!)...also finally, the car feels like its lacking boost slightly when taking off in first gear (really little, not that much of a problem but thought id state it anyways) and gets better in 2nd and so on...so guys??...sorry for being so messy, its coz im in a hurry trying to find out the problems..

also, im really sorry if any of these things have been spoken about before, im just in a hurry to fix these things

cheers guys

i'd be checking for boost leaks... that would cause backfiring as it'll be running rich,

is the car revving up and sown on idle then stalling out???

If so look up the TUTE on cleaning the AAC valve and adjusting idle... should fix it...

hey, how wud u suggest i check the boost leaks??

go around and nip up all your hose clamps, see if you can hear anything... check all your lines coming off your plenum, make sure they are still attached...

If it's a big enough leak you might be able to feel it... also check your BOV... disconnect the rubber plumb back hose and put your hand over the outlet of the BOV as it is building PSI...

i still have'nt fixed this problem yet, when the car runs low on the fuel, the backfiring (popping) seems to slightly get better (it only pops on gear change), and also the stalling problem gets better. when i refill it with fuel (BP Ultimate and 98 Vortex), until the fuel gets low, i gotta deal with loud popping and stalling problems :) i tried the TUTE on cleaning the aac, it helped, but no so much.

any help would be greatly appreciated

cheers

AFM problem would be idling below 500rpm but the engine won't die. That what happened to me. My mechanic used some AFM spray , i don't know what it was and it was ok. Now idling is around 800rpm (from stock odometer) which is back to stock. No problems since.

contact cleaner to clean the hotwire

try it - also try disconnecting the AFM - if the rev dont change it might suggest the contact points within the AFM are broken/not 100% - you could test another persons AFM if available

    • Yep that's pretty much what I want to see. Racecars that look and sound like the Group A but with newer tech underneath to make them faster and safer. I'm sure there's enough VK-to-VN commodore, E30 BMWs and Foxbody mustangs shells around to make up a decent number of cars with hopefully a couple of sierras, rx7 and R31s in there too.
    • Contact Jessestreeter.com/Skevas Racing/JustJap for a new r34 rb gearbox or go a cd00# conversion. No point playing with unknown condition gearboxes.
    • Such a shame places like Amaroo Park have been redeveloped, smaller tracks always make for good racing. Cheers for sharing @PranK there's some good Lakeside video's too. Its so hard with older the cars as parts are so rare and everything was made for a particular chassis at that point in time. Even the V8 Supercar Blueprint era cars are all different between each chassis within a team as they learnt things and made improvements. The COTF cars between each Chassis builder is different too especially motor/oil systems/intakes. The Group A stuff is worth so much too especially chassis with good history. The only way to do it would be composite panels and similar engine drivelines to the original cars. Ford sierra running Focus RS driveline, Commodore running a short stroke LS/LT or a Falcon with coyote and a H Pattern dog box. Could use a standard ecu across all models with a Torque Map and DBW for parity which is not even used in Supercars currently. Hell a TCM is almost a full chassis car these days and the suspension is not even close to standard style in the front running cars.
    • Dashcams Australia (13/05/25) captured JDMHSE (Vic plate) being a right tosser.
    • Wish someone would start a racing series for Group A replica cars, a bit like Touring Car Masters but for 1985 onwards and not grandpa's falcon and/or Monaro. I know they race in some historic class but that's for original cars, no replicas allowed.
