Has anyone had ro fit an hks fuel cut defender. I tryed turning up my boost and found the fuel was being cut I have put an uprated fuel pump in so I was told I needed an fcd.

Has anyone fitted one if so what setting did you start off at and end up at?

Cheers Jonny.

I see these devices are very popular with Toyota and Subaru owners but does the Stagea RB25DET actually have a fuel cut? I am not an expert on RBs but my mechanic who is, puts great emphasis on getting an adequate fuel supply before increasing boost or radically advancing timing since running too lean can result in holes in pistons. That is why as well as a new fuel pump i have a fuel pressure regulator. I think if you can't measure your air/fuel ratios you shouldn't fit a device that will fool your ECU into thinking that you have more fuel than you really have. I don't know who told you that you needed an FCD but I suggest you get a second opinion from a good mechanic with lots of RB experience. In other words don't take my word for it but check with someone who really knows before you run the risk of blowing your engine.

regards

Bob

Yes I ran one of these in mine as a sort of fix until I put the PFC in, and it did exactly what it was meant to.

The stagea ECU is very sensitive to changes and goes to a "safe" part of the map - not really a fuel or boost cut but as Gary would say it goes very rich and retards the timing resulting in a nasty drive.

I ran mine at about 50%. But I would not install it without a dyno run to check everything is OK because it is a very simple device.

Better option if you can afford it is a SITC (like a FCD but more than 1 point to tune) or full piggy back computer.

I've a sitc on route from jap land so I've that side of things covered. Was told I needed a fcd after fitting my boost controller and finding that when I tryed to up the boost the engine would die then go then die the go under heavy right foot almost like a fuel but then I think it could be coils? What ya all think?

Cars fitted with a hybrid turbo good for 1.7 bar so I was only trying for a 1.0 bar of boost but this is stopping me!!!

sorry I meant SAFC not SITC. They are the same sort of thing, one does air flow meter (fuel) and the other does timing.

I think that you won't get much past 1 bar without putting a proper computer on, let alone 1.7 bar. It is just too far from the standard maps for the simple adjustments in SAFC/SITC to fix. But the FCD should be enought to get the standard turbo running OK at 0.8-1.0 bar that is what I was using it for.
