Hello

I put my RB25 turbo onto my R32 GTS-T RB20 and I notice a improvement. The car seems to take off better and seems to go abit faster and less lag.

I still have the original intercooler on there.

How much is the stock intercooler restricting any new gains I will get from the turbo change?

I have a R34 intercooler I am going to put in as soon as I can get it modded to fit.

With a catback exhaust, intake, and the RB25 turbo, how much hp over the original hp will I probably be getting?

Also is there anything else I need to do to make this mod better? Will upgrading to a 555cc fuel pump help at all?

Help

hey mate once you have the intercooler sorted, i would say your next step should be finishing off the exaust.

fit any 3" front/dump pipe and a high flow cat, as the stock ones are very restrictive.. you should feel the difference right away

agreed.

once that is done, get your self a $30 turbo tech boost controller, a walbro fuel pump, then talk to "TOSHI" or "CEF11E" from these forums regarding remaps

will cost you from about $100 - $200 for the remap.

12-14 psi (depends on what you want to run and what you feel is safe) should net you somewhere between 170-190rwkw depending on Dyno.

So in order to see any gains, I have to get a remap or tune? I have a HKS adjustable acuator on the turbo(came with it) I don't know what its set at. Does anyone know how to adjust these?

It should have more lag now. I've had first hand experience with this. It's likely you feeling the difference because you want too feel it.

The amount of extra lag depends on the type of RB25 turbo you use.

The R34 ones should have a nylon compressor wheel so they have less lag then the steel S1 R33 turbos.

not true. R33 series 2 turbos have the nylon compressor wheel also. the R34 turbos actually have more lag due to a slightly bigger exhaust wheel and housing than the R33 one. i've run a series 1 (steel comp wheel) and a series 2(nylon comp wheel) on my 32 when i had it and didn't notice any difference between the two.

Yeap Josh above me got it right .. r34 has a bigger exhaust housing vq30? will go like crap on a rb20

R33 turbos will bring boost on latter to as you have less exhaust gas in a 2L

a tune will be needed to bring more power...

i was actually still hitting full boost (13psi) around 3000 - 3500rpm. so not that laggy, very drive able. i found that it still came on boost around the same time but just kept pulling through the rev range instead of flattening out like the stock 32 turbo does.

and Mike, like everyone has said. get a full exhuast setup, put the R34 SMIC on or just get a FMIC kit and put the on, get the ecu chipped or even just a fuel computer like the SAFC in and tuned. set the boost to 12-13psi. definately get a new fuel pump, as yours is 15 years old or older and will probably be on its way out soon (p.s. do the pump before the tune  ) stock injectors will be ok on this setup. and as GTST hs said, it should see you around the 180rwkw mark.

    • Back in January, I noticed my car felt noticeably weak. I had the injectors cleaned, which seemed to solve the problem -- until now. Recently, the car suddenly lost power again while driving. Suspecting the injectors, I brought it to the mechanic. He recommended replacing them entirely, saying the current ones were getting unreliable and fiddly to work with. I could not find a direct replacement for my current injectors. The closest match I found were 440cc injectors. This led me to look into the possibility of upgrading -- and of course, that would mean remapping the ECU. From my research I found: The OEM Part numbers are 16600-72L20 and 16600-72L21 Both the RB20DE and RB20DET use the same 270cc injectors. There are much better options out there over the old OEM injectors. Nistune could be a viable tuning option. While the RB20DE isn’t explicitly listed on their site, the ECU is essentially the same as the GTS-T version - just with a different map. The ECU code on mine is listed as supported. One concern is finding a tuner who works with Nistune. Aftermarket ECU like Haltech and Link, but this would be the most expensive choice (and possibly overkill for a mostly stock RB20DE) I admit that I am very new to the tuning scene and would appreciate any insight or recommendations regarding this.   These are some SAU links where I got some of my information from for reference: https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/380324-rb20de-injectors/ https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/477396-factory-270cc-injectors/
    • The inspectors are not forensic by any means but if you forge your documents and/or badgings on vehicle parts and are found out, the consequences are just far bigger than if you just run illegal parts. And their job quite literally is to cross reference what parts you got installed and what your papers say you got. Something as silly as your suspension being 1mm too low will fail you. Nonetheless I asked if someone knew the damn pipe and I certainly did not ask for smartassery or underhanded comments, no idea why you need to be told this. Great way to waste both our time.
    • As useful as you explaining what forgery is... But then again, I wasn't aware your inspectors were also forensic experts and inspect nameplates on each component to confirm everything is original. They must inspect roughly 3 cars a year at that rate. You're right though, my comment doesn't help you in anyway, so I'll go talk to my wall now. Cheers.
    • Say that to the guy that is going to fail your inspection or tow your car for illegal exhaust modifications. If you have anything else useful to say, please go tell your wall.
