I am looking a getting a new cat.

But when i looked at the one on the car i found this

post-49054-1213009579_thumb.jpg

just wondering what this is, and if i need it as the new cat does not seem to have a place to fit this sensor?

by the way it's a x force hi-flow cat i'm looking at.

it could be an exhaust gas temp sensor.. just go to your local exhaust shop and get then to weld a new nut close to it's original location once you have fitted the new cat, or you could move it to the right of the flange in the photo if you want to do it before you fit it...

its a precat heater IIRC...but i can be wrong

your cat doesnt work efficiently until its hot

that aids it in heating

take it out of your cat, and push it up above into the hole the wire comes from. if you disconnect it a light will come on on your dash

no sorry definately not a preheater for the cat on these.

it is just a cat temp sensor, it runs a light on the dash if the cat gets too hot (ie blocked). I have been running with mine disconnected for years.

+1 when i got my car i used to hit bumps and see a red light flash, took it in and got a new cat sensor, then a lil while ago i was in my local spot with my bikes and had a bit of fun in a huge open area of dirt/grass,broke the bead on 3 of my 18's and snapped the cat sensor wire clean off...lights on constantly now.ya get used to it

ahh oki doki this was on a 32gtr it doesn't show an error when you disconnect it. If it does, and you don't have a bung in the cat (or no cat at all like us) just chuck it under the car somewhere it can read ambient temp

Kind of off topic.. but why the hell do people put exhauste temp gauges in?

Who cares what exhaust temp is?.. its on its way out?

i know some people use the exhaust gas temp displayed on a gauge as a rough sign of what the afr's are doing, its an old school way though.

I put my new dump and cat in today and for the life of me I cant get the cat temp sensor out of the old cat (any ideas)! iv soaked it in WD40 and it wont budge so I think im gonna snip it off and plug the hole in the new cat with a bolt or something that should be sweet right? will it be ok if I cut it right up near the body?
