LONG ass story short, the police have my number plates, they have no idea where they currently are, I have personally been to 2 police stations, called 3 and the highway patrol (no answer), been to 1 RTA and called 2 and their central office...

I need my plates. I need them today so I can get home. The RTA f**ked up, I had organised to pick up my plates from Gordon Police Station at 2, went there at 2, and now they have f**ked up. So far, no one I have spoken to can tell me where the hell MY PROPERTY is...

This is unnacceptable, as far as a public service goes, I have been severly inconvienced.

The irony in all this is that both Hornsby and Thornleigh RTA have my mobile number, and have people on standby to call me if they ever turn up... The police can't even tell me if the plates were sent by mail or taken in personally! All they know is that they weren't where they were this morning...

So my number plates, that were taken off me for a clerical error by the RTA (which was fixed up in less then 10 minutes this morning, and are now helping me to track them down), are nowhere to be found, and the police force is continusouly passing the buck from one person to another...

Is there actually something in place to govern the police force to make sure they are doing their job?

PS: I thought up an idea last night... www.ratethatcop.com.au

Thanks Corinne, but I'm serious...

What, and you think I'm not?

What can I say? I'm fairly sure the cops can't take your plates off you. I think only the RTA has that kind of authority.

I'm fairly sure they can, seeing as how they are the enforcers of the RTAs laws... and I'm fairly sure they did... cause they did...

My plates. Are gone.

I don't know where they are, I don't know how I'm getting home, and I don't know how I'll be getting to work until they are found...

Edit: Thanks Security, didn't see your post before, I'll look into it...

Maybe just put those TRAFFIC plates on your car untill the RTA/Police return your plates, but i would

let the RTA/Police know about the TRAFFIC plates, see what they say?

I know it's still an inconvenience THEM losing YOUR paid for plates, but they make the rules. So best

to be safe.

Goodluck

Government agency mate... Its all about get in line, please hold or I'll put you through to someone who might know more.

But hey, I suppose its a big organisation. Not like they are playing chinese whispers about someone number plates. Most likely one bloke knows where they are, forgot to log them and has no idea and is sleeping at home.

Best of lucky

Security beat you.

But even then, that's more set up for if a single entity abused you, or failed to take action...

Not exactly the best for when the entire force sucks, can't sommunicate and lose your shit...

Anyone wanna give me a lift home?

Thanks DECI M8 :P

So I have no car, and a job I can't exactly get to... Should they be paying me for loss of time if it comes to that? And what if they need to be replaced?

Can I legally hit cops upside the head for being this dumb?

OK, I'm going to explain this once, and only once...

The rego of the car was cancelled on the 6th (Friday) unknown to me, and for an erronous reason. A highway patrol officer ran my plates as he went past me, to find the car is unregistered, pulled me over, took the plates, and said if I want to move it, it has to be towed. So he buggered off with my plates, leaving me with an unmoveable car, and one itchy head wondering why the hell my car was unregistered...

Went to the RTA this morning (after a long weekend of having no car, this was when they next opened) and asked them to tell my why my rego was cancelled... they said it was due to a defect I had recieved. I produced the ONLY defect notice I have ever received, stamped by the RTA as cleared... after 20 minutes of them talking in back rooms saying "shit, this is a f**k up", they came out to me and said "shit, this is a f**k up". They said it was a duplicate. On the day that i cleared my defect, the person typing it up somehow put through a NEW defect on that day, giving me 21 days from THAT date of rigistration. That was over on the 6th. I got booked on the 7th.

Ten minutes later they had me out the door with a registered car, but no plates, after I was ASSURED by the highway patrol that the plates would be at that RTA by that time.

So long story short, thanks to a clerical error by the RTA, which is now cleared, the police took my plates (probably the right thing to do from their point of view) and I now have no f**king idea where they are... no one does...

Well if you were a member, I have been updating them with my actions over the day in the rant thread... It's good readin' I tells ya! :P

I didn't feel like typing it out twice, as it's one hell of a predicament to be in...

and luckily, I was at my dads house, installing a sub and amp into a beamer, went up the road to BP to get some electrical tape, headed back, by the time I stopped for him (no safe places to stop) I was about 20m from an empty garage ;)

That is where the car sits now... if there was towing to be happening, you had better believe someone who isn't me will be footing the bill... for now, all this has cost me is a few work hours, 8 or 9 years off my life, and a dull long weekend...

When my plates got taken i reported it to the cops and they gave me a police case file.

Maybe request that? (It enables you to drive around with no plates on whilst either the plates are re-issued, or in your case, found etc).

I know yours aren't actually "stolen" (well your not sure) but it might let you drive your car around legally for the meantime.

Government agencies..

all i gotta say man.

Well i got no clue to what you can do, but lets just hope you get your plates back.. goto the cops and ask for a case ID or sumfn, then goto the RTA and demand compensation for the F*CK UP .. and advise them of your action of putting on the TRAFFIC plates.

Or, write the plate on a peice of cardboard and stick it on ur car.. better then nufn..

MRXTCZ

you have 3 months after your rejo expires till your plates have to be returned to the RTA. as far as i know cops cant take your plates. technically they arent allowed to touch your car (literally) unless they are suspicious that you are trafficking drugs and the like. (read the police powers act) i even think this applies to being defected - they cant open your bonnet themselves, they have to 'ask' you to do it.

the RTA requests them to be returned via a letter in the mail. not a special devision of the police department who drive around and deliver number plates.
