Good idea richard, although doof you would want something on paper from the cops. If you walk in there with a story they ill just tell you to jump. If it's not a form or written on a bit of paper they are clueless :)

Maybe I'll go to Thornleigh then, they know me well there now :)

I was advised that you can get temporary plates handed to you over the counter, so I will go to Hornsby first (on the way) and they can call whoever they like about it if they really need info... Pretty sure it costs $30 or something... that I won't be paying...

yeah it's $30 for the re-issue usually, though one would hope hey will waive that fee in your case.

perhaps give up on dr doof all together and go with 455 MAN, you can be cosmo kramer...... the ass man!

that would cost $300 a year... so not worth it :)

It might be worth seeing if you can lodge a formal complaint about the matter still, both with the police and the RTA. Else the whole event gets swept aside, and may well happen to you/somebody else.

If they could just tell me what they did with them I really wouldn't care... It's the lack of knowledge, communication, and the fact that the police just couldn't give two shits about the matter... I feel like I'm being bullied by the principal...

bah... still gay...

I have my own issues with the RTA / Police today too Doof.

I went in to get my motorbike regoed, she says "i can't rego it"

Apparently because its a Blue Slip they need to do a check on the police system to make sure the bike is not stolen, the police took the system down.

The RTA cannot do the check and cannot do ANY new registrations in the whole of NSW (blue slips only)

So anyway i basically have everything to rego my bike for the big ride in the bush tomorrow and I cannot rego it because of the police.

It was down all day yesterday as well.

They are HOPELESS. im going to ride it anyway and if they pull me up and book me im going to court.

lawl!

Well I went to Hornsby RTA today (who were again very helpful), I was organising to get temp plates, which they already said they were going to wave the fee for, and have new ones made up, which they were also going to wave the fee for, but they said they wanted to do a final chase around ot see if they can find them...

Called up a few places, dunno who, one would assume that Gordon police station was one, as after a bit of yelling and making them get off their fat arses and ACTUALLY LOOK FOR THEM, oh my god waddya know, they found them...

So after being told they were sent from that station to Thronleigh RTA (lie) they were there the whole time... With a bees dick worth of luck, I am waiting for a letter of demand from the RTA, which will be sent to the police and myself demanding release of the plates.

Probably a bit early to say it knowing my luck but... THIS TOOK A BIT LESS TIME THEN 6 WEEKS DIDN'T IT BLITZ?

Doof - It was me that said 6 weeks - and it would have been if they had to make you up new plates. You were going throught the exact process I described and you luckily latched onto a pro-active thinking RTA person - Well done.

A good result. Albeit a frustrated Doofmeister.

When you get to my age, you will realise the insanity of getting all upset and resentful at things that don't go your way :P

Yeah but he agreed and then kicked up a massive stink about my actions... you were just suggesting what to do, which I appreciate (and would have done anyway had none of this come to fruitition), but 6 weeks can go and get f**ked... it was an error that had nuthin to do with me! :nyaanyaa:

and yeah, it was mostly luck... The police reckon I have an attitude problem too... Something about incompetence, being lied to and grossly inconveinced that really gets up my nose... :whistling:

It's waive Doof, waive.

You know what? I NEVER KNEW THAT! I had to google it... I've been spelling it wrong all this time

attitude doof.

Bman made mention of getting the RTA to give you regular joe average plates till they sort out getting your plates back or making you new drpoof plates back on page 1 or something.

you saw the 6 weeks part and kept complaining.

all ended well anyway.

got your plates back and can drive your car.

Yeah, I'm the kinda guy that will stand up when he gets knocked down unfairly... call it attitude if you want. I wasn't taking this lieing down.

I know what B-man said, and that's what I went to do this morning. Try and understand that I KNEW the plates were around town somewhere, they were local. I could have gotten new ones pressed but that is a long wait and incurs a cost that I would then have to fight out of not paying (or so I thought).

I could be a bitch and take that route and wait 6 weeks for my plates while my other ones are destroyed... OR I could not, and have my plates sitting right next to me now...

Difficult choice I must say... :whistling:

but yeah, besides the fine which I'm sure won't be hard to fight, it's all over :nyaanyaa: The police were still extremely incompetent though... Thumbs up for the RTA but...

LONG ass story short, the police have my number plates, they have no idea where they currently are, I have personally been to 2 police stations, called 3 and the highway patrol (no answer), been to 1 RTA and called 2 and their central office...

I need my plates. I need them today so I can get home. The RTA f**ked up, I had organised to pick up my plates from Gordon Police Station at 2, went there at 2, and now they have f**ked up. So far, no one I have spoken to can tell me where the hell MY PROPERTY is...

This is unnacceptable, as far as a public service goes, I have been severly inconvienced.

The irony in all this is that both Hornsby and Thornleigh RTA have my mobile number, and have people on standby to call me if they ever turn up... The police can't even tell me if the plates were sent by mail or taken in personally! All they know is that they weren't where they were this morning...

So my number plates, that were taken off me for a clerical error by the RTA (which was fixed up in less then 10 minutes this morning, and are now helping me to track them down), are nowhere to be found, and the police force is continusouly passing the buck from one person to another...

Is there actually something in place to govern the police force to make sure they are doing their job?

PS: I thought up an idea last night... www.ratethatcop.com.au

Sorry to hear about the inconvenience you have been caused.. it looks to me as though both the police who have handled your case and the RTA are at fault here.

There are very serious laws governing police to ensure they do their jobs accordingly. There are too many to mention. Complaints against the police are treated very seriously, more so because they enforce the law. This isn't a question of police doing their jobs correctly or incorrectly.

Who originally took your number plates? Was it the police or the RTA?

Either way I think the RTA should issue you with new plates.

EDIT: Woops.. didn't realise the mystery of the missing plates was solved.. well carry on..

Edited by missusR34GT

It's not like you were late, I only got them back around 2 oclock today (Thursday) when they were taken on Saturday...

Originally the plates were taken by the highway patrol, but from his point of view, he was doing the right thing... in fact, I think he is the ONLY officer that did the right thing... Everyone else I dealt with kept on palming it off onto every one else, from station to station, person to person... Then when i asked for an apology I got yelled at and pretty much threatened... and told I have an attitude problem...

    • But there's the archetype for the name plate! Here's my view on that stupid TÜV ruleset. Buy a brand name aftermarket piece of equipment. In this case, the Mines front pipe we're talking about. Get it TÜV certified on the car. Damage the underside of it, say on a speed bump. Cut out the damaged section, replace with fresh metal. (For the sake of the argument only), continue doing that to the whole pipe until it is all gone, replaced with new metal. Is this grandfather's axe still the same front pipe? The design hasn't changed (much). The pipe walls are in the same places. The flanges are in the same places. It is functionally identical. How does this differ from a pipe that is ever so slightly different in fabrication (ie the number of welds in it, a few mm here and there in terms of where the pipes run, are joined, etc)? Anyone with 0.5% of a brain can see that there is absolutely no way that the performance (power, environmental aspects, noise, etc etc) of it can be any different than the genuine Mines pipe. Maybe even Mines made 2 versions of this design, with the same differences. How would anyone (say a TÜV inspector) ever be able to differentiate between them? And yet, they are so bloody anally retentive about this stuff. Mad. How upset would they be if you had the wrong spring washers on the flanges?

    • After a fairly extensive search using Japanese terms and checking Minkara etc, I couldn't find anything even close to your front pipe in the photos. I'm no expert but the two pipes merge really close to the flange connected to the catalytic converter which is rather unique from what I've seen, which makes me think it's more than likely a custom front pipe. The welds and 'more pipe sections than usual for a brand name pipe' makes it seem like a custom one.  Here's some photos of an old Mine's front pipe. You can see that it's just 4 pipe sections as opposed to 6, and arguably looks more like a 'production' front pipe:
