Hi All,

I've done a bit of google farming without allot of success, so thought I would throw it to the general forum populous.

I have a R34 GTR V-Spec II. As you're aware, the V-Spec offers a couple of extra features including 2 x extra sensors and the MFD upgraded to utilise these sensors. Namely, they are the Exhaust temp gauge and Intercooler gauge.

My situation is that really I have two problems. The first problem (and if anyone can help with this, great! but it's not the main topic for discussion) is that my boost gauge is registering at 0 at all times, and does not pick up any boost. I had a friend advise me that the MFD needs recalibration, so off I went down the path of recalibrating based on Nissan instructions. The recalibration worked just fine, but it didn't fix anything - and to make matters worse, when I powered the car on after the recalibration I had lost my 2 sensors.

So it would appear that the MFD has reset to a non-V-Spec configuration, and has removed my Exhaust and Intercooler temperature gauges.

Can anyone advise on how to get them back?

As a secondary, does anyone have advice on the boost gauge problem?

I've had the car for nearly 4 months now without fault, so this is the first (and hopefully last???) for a long while I hope. Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

its because you ran a diagnostics on the MFD when there was no reading input for exhaust/inlet temp.

drive the car around to get your exhaust temp and your inlet temp up. then run a diagnostics.

it should look like this

vmfd3.jpg

if you dont no how to run diagnostics here it is.

Diagnostic mode

1) Turn the key to the "OFF" position

2) Push and hold the joystick

3) Turn the key to the "ON" position while still holding down the joystick

4) Release the joystick at least 1 second after the "GT-R logo" appears.

5) Click the joystick 5 times within the next 3 seconds.

This will show which sensors are functioning and have readings.

Hey mate - spot on, worked a treat.

Thanks for the great advice!

Any guidance on the boost gauge issue constantly showing neutral pressure?

Thanks

do you have any other boost readings in the car apart from the MFD?

if you do, are they all working? or is the MFD the only one with the issue.

unfortunately the MFD is the only boost gauge that i have in the car... so no definitive answer there :P

thats a bummer, are you running a boost controller!??!?!

all i can say is check your boost sensor in the engine bay. and make sure there are no leaks or anything.

have any tips on where the boost sensor is? the car still boosts fine, it's just the gauge.

if you can give me a hand with letting me know where the things are, i'll get it checked out..

usually on the firewall, up in the corner on the drivers side. little black plastic box about the size of a matchbook. it will have a little rubber vacuum hose running to it, 1 set of wires running out too.

(this is my first GTR had an EVO7 before) oh yeah my car is a R34 gtr Vspec

Sorry for hijacking but thought its relevant.

    • Hello, I'm trying to make this thread basically the thread with all the answers to common questions regarding specifically the RB20 DE NEO + T engine, that comes in the R34. Answers will and only should be provided by those who have done this conversion or actually have some relevant real life experience please. Please feel free to ask questions in the comments if you have any so other members can answer. I feel like this thread is really needed, especially with more Americans buying (unknowingly going to regret it too) rb20 neo r34s. My first question being - What do you guys use for tuning? I have purchased a haltech elite 2500 Plug and play kit for the rb25det NEO because the ecu plug is the same, but I am unsure if any of the pins would need to be repined to match. Second question that I see asked very often - After this conversion, did you install the boost solenoid/ actuator? I see many people doing a + T setup on their rb20 NEOs while running stock RB25DET NEO ECUs with no tune. I am wondering how they are going about doing that and consistently abusing the car because many of these people have had these untuned setups running for a very long time. That was my original plan, but my engine cuts out at 5 psi of boost using the stock ecu with no tune and no boost solenoid/actuator.
    • interesting. ive read and heard otherwise over the past year. ive been doing this +t conversion on a rb20 neo using all oem rb25det neo parts including the ECU, and im having engine cut out issues when I hit around 5 psi of boost. Everywhere/everyone ive asked has told me its because I never wired in a boost solenoid/actuator to the ecu, so the ecu isn't getting the right signal once it hits 5 psi of boost, causing the engine to get shut off.
    • Mate, I take this thread in random directions on occasion myself, so no foul I'm a old fan of MCM anyway, I like their banter, and enjoy most of the stuff they do
    • Something strange is happening. I didn't touch the car since we last spoke on the forums. Yesterday was the first day of good weather, so i took it out for about 2 hours. It started up on first crank every time about 5 times total. I literally didn't do anything to do the car.
    • I purchased this one. Very well priced and works great. I was rough with it to see if it will last and had no issues.  Teslong Two-Way Articulating Borescope with Light, Industrial Endoscope Inspection Camera with Articulated Probe, Flexible Mechanic Fiber Optic Snake Scope Cam for Wall Automotive Engine Inspect-5FT : Amazon.ca: Industrial & Scientific
