Hey SAU,

im planning on next weekend getting my GReddy Profec-B Spec 2 electronic boost controller installed at Tweed Heads Autobarn. He said that he could set my high to 10psi for me(which is apparently safe, before R&R.)and my low to 5psi or 7psi (because im not taking it above 5000rpm going to and from work so 5psi is ok?)and set my gain, etc. appropriately.

Also he said he setup his mates Subaru Forester to high 12-15psi and low of 2psi!could i set mine to 2psi or is 5psi or 7psi(?)better because thats what stock is (when i say better, i mean more fuel economical).

Also he said that if i turn the controller off, the wastegate will be open so it wont make hardly any boost...is that right and safe?and do i loose when installing this, the dual stage?

Please help me understand this more before i organise this install,

with the controller off the boost will be around 5-7psi because there is no modulation of the pressure to the actuator, simply it will be standard.

I have the same controller and it works really well... If you want fuel economy, keep the car off boost completely. That being said, you will get better economy on a lower level.

sounds like they know what they doing dan, however to be sure get a tuner to install it as you don't want problems further down thet track and 5psi is fine for daily driving as without the BC thats the boost the turbine will create naturally.

If you get a boost controller...

please get a professional tuner to do this

and please on the dyno

it is actually better to set in on the street as many dynos have the ramp rate set wrong (ie to give nice numbers :thumbsup: ) and on the street the boost will spike etc.

look I'm sure they can set it up for you (although personally I would only do it on a dyno to be safe with afrs, fuel pressure etc etc).

but when they say you can turn it off and get 5psi (ie 2psi lower than standard boost) they clearly do not know what they are talking about or what the boost controller does. No boost controller can give you lower than standard boost unless it adds air instead of bleeding it out lol

How much do tuners charge though?

what about if i install it as per diagram, dont turn it on and take it to a tuner?how much roughly?(dont worry i wont quote yas!)

yeah it is perfectly safe to drive with the controller turned off if you have installed it properly. First time you drive it be super careful as it comes onto boost if it goes over 7psi back off straight away - if you've got it wrong you can get eleventy billion psi which is bad.

There can be a trick with the install, you need a pressure source for the solenoid and I don't think the 33 gtst piping has one handy. You will need to weld a nipple onto the cooler pipe which might make it a workshop required job.

can anyone confirm that the r33 s1 doesnt have anywhere to 'tap' into for the positive pressure for the solinoid?

to remove the factory boost control is it just replace the line on the actuator with the greddy switchline from solinoid?

is there a write up anywhere on how to install on r33?

i just read the install manual again and it said to take the hose off the stock wastegate actuator and put it into the NO of the solinoid (feeding it pressure) then out of the COM of the solinoid to the wastegate actuator!is that all you have to do?how does the stock one work, like would the stock one be controlling the pressure before the solinoid or what?

    • Keeping in mind that I am currently getting flat 10 L/100km on my RB25DET, which means >>500km/tank. I would test this car for vacuum leaks, check codes and AFM signal with NissDataScan as D says, check plugs, do a compression check while they are out.
    • It is hard to be specific half way across the world...but it *seems* like it might have a minor issue. Is the idle stable and does it rev smoothly? I would not expect any pops out of what I am assuming is a standard ECU, standard tune, standard exhaust. You can use Nissan Data Scan to find out exactly what is happening when it runs, the cable/software is reasonably affordable if you are not planning on changing the ECU (which hopefully you are not with an NA skyline) BTW your mileage may not be that far off, these are heavy old tech cars, and being NA might mean you use a heavy foot to keep up with traffic....
    • Hey guys! Y'all are the masters so figured I'd check in on a few items here. - My engine sounds ever-so-slightly more raspy than the other NA RB25s I've listened to. It's barely noticeable but definitely a slightly different sound. - When I back off the throttle at high RPM, I will sometimes get a pop out of the exhaust, assuming this can be diagnosed as misfire. Some history on the car: - Had an exhaust leak in auction sheet but was claimed to be fixed by seller (bought from USA importer).  - Car's coil packs and sparks were replaced when it was sold to me, but unsure on what the gap is and whether the coil packs are correct.  - A prior mechanic had misdiagnosed a pilot or throwout bearing sound as LSPI/detonation. Had played with timing a bit, pops/raspy sound of engine just got worse. Got timing reset. - Had failed emissions a few times. First time went in as is, failed. Second time, replaced cat, still failed, running rich as hell. Third time replaced o2 sensor, passed. Car still smells gassy though. - Timing belt and valve cover gasket also replaced.  - Gas mileage is... low. about 350-400K per tank.  Any idea if I'm having any serious issues here or does this all sound like normal old NA RB stuff and I'm fine to drive it with the pops/slightly raspy engine? If it'll help, I can get drop a video of the sound of the engine.
    • So....to find any R chassis part number, get your VIN (will be something like ER33-xxxxxx for you) and go to: https://www.amayama.com/en/genuine-catalogs/nissan and enter it. From there you have access to a web version of Nissan's part system, FAST. It is a bit tricky to get used to, so maybe have a shot and post up what you think.  You can also search by general model but note in some cases your car might have different options so VIN is safest.  On diagram 211 I got 14075-75T16 for Connector, Water Hose If I search for part 14053‑21U10 that you posted, that is also a water hose but not the one bolted to the plenum and 14075‑04U00 is the fitting where the water hose goes into the block.
