Are you talking about Fowles?

Vehicle auctions are alrite if you know what ur doing. I prob wouldnt buy a Skyline through an auction though as you really need to put it through a number of test which u simply cannot (or not allowed) to do at an auction yard.

Its also not bad if you wanna buy a smashed car cheap, scum the parts and sell the rest for a small profit or to break even on ur initial cost...

2 years ago with my old job installing watercoolers,i was in fowles putting in a few while the auctions were going on,there were some bargains going on,there was a yellow Lamborghini Gallardo in among them,a burned out Shelby Cobra went for $26k,the engine was ok.there was heaps of australia post scooters for sale.

From what I understand, most auction cars are ex fleet/company/governemnt cars that get treated like shit. I would not buy something that I really wanted to be reliable from there.

i think thats a bit of an 80's stereo type

most lease cars are treated pretty well as they have set service schedules and usually the costs are covered

so the leasee doesnt have to fork out $500 each time the car needs a service, so its usually done as per the lease schedule

ie: regulary and as per the dealers program for servicing. also if its a novated lease the baloon payment is the cars value

so if the leasee "trashes" the car, then they have make a bigger loss on the car, so thats unlikely.

when i had my R33 on a novated lease it had pre-arranged services with nissan as per the proper spec

so they did all the usual shit & the dealer would even do ptional work - fix sqeaks and stuff without asking

it also included tyre budgets and other stuff so the car got good decent hardware/maitenance

the dealer would even call me up reminding me of service schedules etc so i wouldnt miss them

now that its off a lease it gets serviced when i feel like it or when i notice its blowing smoke / oil pressure etc etc

otherwise it doesnt get any attention - tyres changed when bald instead of normal 80% wear and so on

i can tell you this......the place is full of shattered hopes and dreams...going to the damaged section is about as much fun as masterbating with a cheese grater....people paying big money for piles of crap that are usually there for a reason.....THERE SHAGGED BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I work at Pickles Auction's and our ex fleet/company/governemnt cars are all in very good con, and they all get service regularly. But the repo's you have to know what your buying. This tuesday we are haveing a very big sale and alot of clean cars with low kms.

Whats the difference if you bought a whole car slightly smashed for $1000, scumming the parts, then selling the rest for say $500 OR going out and buying each individual part you need from the wreckers for $1000 or more....???

Where do you think the wreckers get alot of their cars from anyways????

Few years ago the motor in my old car died so i went out and bought a similar one for $350 with 80,000km's on the clock, slightly smashed at the front right. The smashed car still had its new car smell and i even debated whether it was worth using it for parts as it seemed too good to waste. Ended up using what i wanted as well as getting a new interior out of it and selling the rest for around $500 as it still had good panels/doors etc; I then changed the rims over from my stockies and sold the rolling shell to them companies that pay ya 50bucks to come pick it up and tow it away which went towards a full tank of petrol LOL !!!

I know they also have another section there (unless its changed recently) for cars ranging between $100 - $10,000 which are not ex-fleet and you really can get some bargains if you know what ur doing....

    • That's true. However, this problem has started since the tuning. First time with the return journey from the tuning. But yes, the pipe was clogged with dirt and rust. That was certainly due to age
    • Great info @tidi0x  Will definitely be handy for others and maybe me if I decide to keep the shit box H pattern.
    • Bumping this up one last time.... I wanted to follow up on the clutch slave issue. I realized that what the issue comes down to is the pocket is flat milled, and the cylinder does not want rest flat. So in order to mount it correctly you will need to make a spacer for the fingers so the cylinder is floating. I took two plates of aluminum, drilled some holes and was good. I did still need to make the relief cuts in the bell housing, as even with the spacer the bleed section still interferes. The OE bell housing the mounting holes are raised from the housing.
    • If the event in USA goes ahead will be interesting as it seems the rules will get more cars over here. Apparently the track is laguna seca too. Yeah s15, if I get a the lower dash trims, centre console and change front cross member to standard LCA position will fit clubsprint. See how rules are as i would rather do complete widebody than a bolt on flare to run the 295 with proper clearance.
    • If the car is legal height I can't see it being an issue. Found a thread on reddit that might offer some insight.   I got a ticket from a copper in QLD for my S15 being too low. They had this wheel thing on a stick that they put under the car and it hit my exhaust. Anyhow went to an exhaust shop to get the exhaust tucked up/hung a little higher and I wound the coilovers up a smidge. Don't think I even had to go back to the police station unlike when I got defected for having a carbon bonnet when I brought the S15 from the ACT to QLD and had to replace it and then rock up at a police station and have a yougish female officer who knew nothing about cars confirm that I had changed bonnets. Should have just painted the carbon bonnet yellow to match the rest of the car lol
