Phoned by the RTA for a random inspection

A couple of months after I got my car I got a call from the RTA.

They said that they wanted to inspect my car. Said it was a random check to make sure that everything necessary was done complyance wise.

I took it it to them and they spent about 10 minutes looking over it, compared VIN and engine numbers, details on the compliance plate, said "thanks your fine".

Is this kind of inspection regular behaviour from the RTA?

Is it just a random check to ensure the importer was complying cars properly or were they looking for something else?

one of my customer had a similar thing its just a check to make sure the car is legit it protects every one and stops stolen cars from being registered etc.
