I have searched the entire forum before asking this, aswell as UK skyline forum.

My new nismo meter set won't read speed correctly ( ie shows im doing 120kph when im actually doing 50 kph etc ) and HICAS light stays on.

I have done the following so far to fix these problems :

1. Fit a brand new speedo cable.

2. Checked oil levels for HICAS

3. Changed over speed sensor as the back of dash for orig cluster that was working fine.

4. Checked Battery power level, which is a dry cell optima yellow top with plenty of juice left in it.

The nismo set is meant to be plug and play.... Don't or shouldn't need calibration or a addon gear reduction box etc.......

Also speed reads correctly via Apexi power FC hand controller LCD display .......

are there any skyline guru's out there that could possibly shed light on this situation.......... or offer a solution.

I won't take it to nissan for them to charge me countless hours for them to try and find the problem and come to the same point as me nor a exclusive over priced performance shop that I will shell out

$'s for them to try and find problem with no solution.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Rob

No speed means your HICAS mucks up fix speedo and all will be good.

Edit. opps sould have read the hole lot frist. When my speedo didnt work at all i had HICAS problems maybe yours is reading that the car is always moving so it has no idea whats happening.

what would cause that?

also can't be speed sensor becuase apexi power FC hand display ready correctly... which gets it information from the speed sensor right....

Also power steering is still 100%....

there must be one person out there with a solution..... seriously.

while i was searching for an answer to your problem it occuored to me that the magnets on the needle of the cluster still use 12 volts, regardless of whether it is a standard skyline cluster or not,

which means that a standard speedo drive would under drive the needle giving the incorrect speed, also hence why the hicus is having issues because the speed is saying one thing yet the sensors at each hub are giving conflicting information.

the reason i say this the early nismo gtr's had 260kph speedo's not 320kph like the later gtr's, mines a november 92 gtr and has 260 on the clock. i suspect the speedo cluster you have there is for the v spec model.

the speed sensor at the dash is moved within the speedo itself and then sends electrical pules that hen allow the ecu to kow the speed, hence the fc handheld LCD is showing correct speed.

I checked with nissan dealer about the part number, which they said was for a 1990 r32 GTR......

aftermarket nismo speedos are pretty standard for GTRs and the like.

I already have a aftermarket 260km/h nismo black dash that works perfect on my R32 GTR.

any other suggestions....

There should be two speed sensors - one is part of the cluster the other is part of the gearbox...Find out which one your (working) Power FC is connected to (i.e. gearbox speed wire or dash speed wire) and then you will know which one is playing up.

nah, 32's only have the one, at the cluster. they have a cable driven speedo.

Thats what I thought.

I'am just at that point of I don't know what to do. It works somtimes and I have replaced the cable.... and the apexi handset reads true... so the speed sensor is fine.

what else could cause this?

there must be someone in Australia with an idea.
