Almost Stolen R33 - Need Ignition Barrel If Someone Can Help

A dark blue R33 was attempted to be stolen between 7pm - 8pm in Bathurst St car park, Launceston, tonight. If anyone in the area saw anything sus, please contact the police. Apparently another car was successfully stolen around the same time, but the cops didn't know what sort of car.

In the meantime, if anyone has or knows of an ignition barrel to suit for sale locally, please call me (Jess) on 0408 486 809. The poor guy's from Devonport and might have to get his car towed all the way home if we cant get it fixed.

just rip the ignition barrel out and hot wire it if you can't get one... saves getting a tow...

and how exactly would we go about this?

as ive had ithappen to me before and its not very nice

they got into the car and striped out my ignition barrell

wish i could help

god theres some wankers in this world that need bullets

especially when ive copped it

i was lookin at gointo tassie in the next 12 months but by the sounds of it it aint much safer then sydney:(:thumbsup:

You will need to pull all the steering column surround off and get access to the switch on the back of the barrel.

There will more than likely be 2 shear bolts holding the barrel assembly onto the steering column shaft, (never done a 33 so im only guessing) you need to use a sharp centre punch and hammer and tap the bolts undone, this will get the barrel assembly off and the steering lock off.

Then just unscrew the switch off the barrel, the switch should have a little notch which you can turn with a screwdriver to start the car.

so what happened did you get the ignition barrel sorted? I have one but didnt come forward as i couldnt find the key, but after talking with a mate, he can fix one up cheap as chips for it. cheers Damo

      I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

      My Nismo 1.5 churps a bit on reverse turns when cold, but besides that feels like a stock diff.

      So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
