Hi guys, About 3-4 months ago I noticed a "metal on metal" noise comming from the turbo/manifold region. He only happens whilst on idle. She doesn't blow any smoke at all, and still boosts alright.

Do you guys think my turbo is blown? If not, what could it be?

Any help much appreciated.

Me thinks you found the problem. :D

Oh true? I had a look underneath, theres a bolt on the manifold which it's washer has broken in half... And it's a little black around that area...

Could be an exhaust leak? Might just have to take it to a mechanic. :)

Is the input shaft also called the propeler shaft?

I also have a like a metallic sound only when in idle coming from the turbo side.

Can't figure out what it is.

Well all my syncros are pretty shot as well so I'm replacing it with an rb25det box for ~$700 delivered from japan (mates importing a car so free freight) Expect to pay up to $1500 locally for a rb25 box or ~$400 for a rb20 box.

Repair would vary dramatically depending on how much of the work you could do yourself, if you can't even pull the box out yourself I'd imagine it would be similar to just replacing the box.

Cheers^

I took it to the mechanic, and he chucked it up on the hoist.

He said it was comming from the clutch reigon, and is nothing to worry about. He said its something lose or bent (fork?) in the clutch, and that it can be fixed with a new clutch change.
