Hey Guys,

I am experiencing a pain in the ass water leak, the drivers side footwell is getting water in it... and not just a little dribble its enough to make the carpet in the lowest part of the well soaked. I have pluged up the rubber grommet on the firewall with enough silicon to sink a ship so im pretty certain its not coming in there. i had my windscreen replaced as i thought it may have been some kind of seal or issue with that (it also had a fair crack in it so needed replacing) but water is still coming in!! at the windscreen place the bloke reconed that it could be the roof bars as they can cause leaks easily he recons and that the water could be running down the A pillar and into the footwell?

If anyone has any ideas or has had a similar problem and can point me in the right direction please let me know

Thanks in advance :)

IN D/S mudguard, behind the liner there is a big rubber gromet that has umpteen wires going thru. Have a look there.

Could be some extra wires have been run thru and disturbed the seal.

Yeah there were a few wires going through there for various things but like i said i have siliconed the crap out of that so i don't think thats what it is.

The water doesn't smell dank straight away like if it sits there for a few days then it does get a bit. Water is only coming in when it is raining not at any other time? wouldn't water leak in all the time if it was a cracked heater core? i really don't know anything about that system. My heater works fine too as well as my aircon so it doesn't appear broken.

Blocked drain on the aircon? how do i get to that to clean it out?

Thanks for the input guys

Next time it rains, remove scuff plate, kick panel and lift up carpet. You should be able to see the direction it's coming from.

Or do the same and hit a carwash or garden hose.

Do Stags have a drain plug in the footwell, if so and it's missing or damaged you could be scooping water in as you drive.

Damn surprised it's not the heater core, almost always is with passenger side foot well puddles.

But as said you'd smell the coolant and if you drove a distance with the heater on your pudlle would be warm.

well im almost certain its not the heater core then... as the puddle doesn't get warm, and the longer i drive in the rain the more water comes in... i have lifted up the carpet and everything and not found any kind of plug... yeah i think on the weekend i might have to pull out as much of the carpet and kick pannel n go the hose n see if i can see something... if i still can't see anything off with the drivers side front wheel then the inner guards and have a good look there. Ill be sure to let u all know if i find something weird

Cheers all

Well i caught the rain in the act this time!! it was actually raining all the way home this time not just the first 20 minutes then nothing until i got home!! ggrrrr#(i*$(& BUT ITS OKAY, as this time i got a light and stuck my head right up in there and yep... the big rubber firewall grommet was still leaking even after i (thought) i siloconed the crap out of it. Well this time i have pull the wheel off and the entire inner guard and really gave it a good smattering, lets hope (pray) that that is the only place the water was getting in and its sealed now.

Stick it on the hoist and see if there is water coming out?

Dumb idea, but Ive seen dumb things work. Like one of my new employee's for instance.

hahaha good call :( im just going to try pulling out as much shit as i can around the area on the weekend and getting someone to smash the car with a hose...

haa.. you just made me think of the scene from " the gods must be crazy " when some guy gets a bucket of water out to wash the windscreen of this old range rover.. only to chuck it at the windscreen to realise there is no glass in it.. totally drenching the occupant - ok - so its a " had to be there" moment

Get a high pressure (car lovers FTW) hose onto it, it will be represent driving in the rain. Water is very sneaky!

I am taking the car into Racepace on saturday as well so they will have it for a week. Guess ill just have to soak up the water try n find it AGAIN!!!!

Sorry to drag this back up again but has anyone any ideas what the problem could be I've removed the roofrails and replaced them with the blanking strips so rain can't get in thru there I've also replaced and checked the heater core and siliconed up the grommet in the drivers side but still rain gets in.

Has anyone any ideas or had this problem fixed it's so driving me crazy!!

The only way to find a water leak is get a hose and spend 5-10 min on each section of the car and have some one in side waiting for the water to come

in, if go spraying it willy nilly you will never find it. Always work from the bottom first, eg firewall, doors, heater in take, windscreen and roof rails.

Spend an extra 5min pouring water in the heater in take, they are designed to have water going in but some times the drain clogs up and the water works it way through the ducting and into the car.

good luck, you will need it

there is a water stain on one of the hoses for my heater thingo up under the passenger side dash... no puddles though, so hoping it is just a hose issue, not the heater core... it is parked under cover so hard to tell.... will send it off to a mechanic soon i think

I just fixed our p/side water leak. Hope this fixes a few other peoples leaks. Lift bonnet, remove windscreen wipers, remove long black plastic scuttle panel held down by a heap of plastic clips. You will see a small plastic square (25mm?), light green fitting butted up to the bottom the windscreen on both sides (L&R). Remove both of those a replace the thin flat seal. Also there a couple of small black plastic fittings (about 25mm long that scuttle clips into) above heater?? inlet that need resealing aswell while you have car apart!! I just cut some thin double sided tape to fit. Then get back to Boosting!!

i always put it down to me riping out the plastic inner gaurds and it comming in through the bottom of a piller/firewall.

good job my amp is on the left side went through some huge puddles the other week and soaked the entire drivers side foot wells, didn't notice till it was sunny and my car stank, all the water was under the floor mats. took 2 weeks to dry
