On the sunday of this comp last year at eastern creek, we didnt have as many as we did today....

lol @ "anyone caught drifting in the car park will be reported to the constabulatories..."

HAHAHA yea very funny :D I was standing on the opposite side to the carpark when everyone started leaving after the final re-run, almost every single car started drifting over the grass hill ;) looked funny as.

I think if Toyo pulled out of this sport it would crumble within months.

Yes and No, I don't think it'll crumble, but rather somebody else would jump in as a sponsor, as it happens everywhere else. Which then obviously might or might not be good for the overall sport.

Theyre doing well, i hope it gets bigger and better every year, love watching it...

well, I sure hope it gets bigger....This was the first time for me to go to a drift comp and I was not sure what I was expecting..Was a bit confused about how its judge...especially when they re-ran the finals about 60times......Also I was hoping it would be more of the track used and heaps more people there..

Oh well all in all I think it was really cool :) and I wish I had won that passenger seat in one of the runs...grr

These events rely on a high number of spectators to keep the sport going. On saturday I did a rough count of 350 people watching the event the entire day. Of these 300 my guess would be that 50-60% own an import so already know about the sponsors that are being advertised on the cars so those sponsorship dollars are a waste of money because they are only advertising to people that already know of them. The other 40-50% of spectators were older people (mums n dads) and they have no need for a HKS Exhaust on their Camry.

Their was 1 display at the back and this was Toyo the main sponsor so they don't even count, how many import shops are based in Sydney and yet none had anything on display? Hell these days even Autobarn and SuperCheap sell import parts yet they weren't even on display. The sponsors wouldn't be making a cent out of their drivers because the drivers would get parts either free or at a discount.

They did however have a high amount of radio advertising for this event and with the weather being perfect for racing I was quite surprised to see such a low attendence.

Totally agree, And Im sure it would even be a good move to get more sponsors involved and a better turn out from sponsors to get the crowd into the event, not only for the drifting but also to talk to tuners, to import-shops....

meh. oh well no point talking about it, as Im sure people are thinking about these alternatives to get the crowd interested..at least I hope they are. :(
