it's okaaaay. except for the fuel control as it's ramping up onto boost. as it ramps up to near full boost the fuel is not keeping up and it hits the 14:1 AFR as boost ramps up to 16psi before dipping down to ~12.5:1 which is ok. but the boost ramping area is always tricky and is usually where you get detonation. as the power and boost pressure start to rapidly increase the tune needs to be adjusting fuel and timing in a hurry to cope. if it were me I would probably want that little area of the tune looked at a bit further.

Ok

1. AFR's are dreadful around 4000-4700rpm. They should not be around 14's as its ramping up

2. Boost controll is average, i mean you only have 160rwkw @ 4500rpm.

5000rpm you've only just hit 230rwkw and there is a nasty hole right there until it lifts up again towards 260

For a turbo of that size and that rear housing, i would expect it to be noteably better

thanks for the info guys, appreciate it...just spoke to the tuner then will be taking it back 2moro to get more fuel added around the 4000-4700rpm. he did mentioned after the run that you see in the graph he added more fuel down low and a bit more up top but didnt do another power run. Ill get him to sus out the dip in the power curve up top aswell. R31nismoid you mention the boot controll is average and its only got 160kw @ 4500rmp then just hits 230kw at 5000rpm......becuase of the size of the turbo it is pretty laggy and when im in the car and plant it rght up to almost 5000rpm u can feel the car isnt really under much load its trying to spool and boost up and soon as it hits around 5000rpm it almost instantly then hits 7000rpm really kicks in hard...is this cause of the tune or cause of the lag? cheers

ok i added a new AFR line on how it should look like, or there abouts, it could get richer about 500rpm earlier but you get the idea.

Tune em rich, enjoy your engine for a large number of years, tune em lean ??? then your keen!

thanks guilt-toy I really appreciate it...thats wot I said to the tuner when i 1st took it in, I said I would rather less power and a realiable tune then running it as lean as possible to get as much out of it as u can...will definatly not be goin back there again in the future and wot makes it worse it cost me $1000

Mate go back to him, give him another chance, tell him to fix it properly and get a reliable tune!

He might have been having a bad day / week.... surely he will fix it for free. $1000 man, far out i feel bad for you... but for that kinda money you would EXPECT backup support.

Go back to him and tell him you want the AFR to be 12.4 from 2 - 8psi and then from 8psi to 12psi you want 12.0 and from 12psi to 18psi you want 11.5afr to 11.8.

If he does that for you then he may be a good tuner to use in the future.

good luck with it!

yeah, mine was leaning out on monday on the dyno, had to go from 770cc to 1000cc sards...now i need a fuel tanker to follow me around. but oh well i shouldnt complain.

that has like no power till 3700..that would be good around town driving car.

hmmm maybe you should worry.. you don't need to know shit or have any tickets or anything to have a tuning shop and a dyno.

Maybe you should ask for your money back. drive down to nsw, get it tuned and drive back and you will have change from your $1000 lol

Try mercury motorsport?? i dunno i don't know any places up there mate. good luck with it though.

I'd say combination of both potentially.

Boost control needs setting up better, as does the tune require a fair bit of work.

Also it could be cam timing is off causing this too... a number of things for the tuner to think about thats for sure

Was yourse the orange S15?

If so my missus wants it, lol. thing is niiice.

Mate you would have seen my VL there, white/silver VLT calais, GMH.088.

As for the tune. no doubt they will do it again if your not happy, i don't understand all that tuning stuff but ive spent over 18grand on my engine, and i wouldnt have taken my car there if i did'nt trust the boys @ EFI.

There history specks for itself...

    • Just checked in first post and you should be able to bring it home November this year, right? I'm amazed you made it through four years of this. As hard as it feels now the rest will go by in a breeze in hindsight, I'm sure.
    • Realized I haven't been back here in a while. Still here, still alive, still waiting for the car.  I went back again the only time last year from Oct-Nov for R's Meeting and drove it around some more, including a few laps on Fuji Speedway(in the wet, sadly). The car still feels good, but have a couple small things to address. I've been getting more parts but have slowed down still, and most of the bigger purchases are now out of the way. I find myself getting impatient more and more when it comes to getting started on this project; it's quite hard for me not being able to really dive in and start making this car my own because it's halfway across the world. At times it doesn't even really feel like I own one of these. Haven't really been motivated or had the desire to document the last trip on here or social media for, well, reasons... but here's some pics...it's also still alive and well as you can see: I've narrowed down to the last large part purchases(anything over $2k) before the engine build to be: 1) Ohlins Road & Tracks 2) ATS Twin Carbon clutch 3) Endless BBK with some custom options and 4) Kansai Service carbon driveshaft I don't think the budget exists for all of these this year, but I'll try for one or two items I think. Though, every time I look at my spreadsheet I sigh, shake my head, and get depressed just that little bit more.  'til later.
    • It's a stunning location!  I've been to NZ twice but haven't made it to the North Island yet.  Definitely on the cards but the South Island is hard to tear yourself away from too... Looking forward to see what you can wring out of it once you can get it to hold together!  Be awesome to get a low 11 or even sneaking into the high 10's pass out of it.  That's a bloody quick car that most people will never experience in their life.  Enjoy!
    • Nominally yes but I’m not really at that stage yet. Outsourcing to Japan is also a relatively good deal at the moment because their currency has devalued much more against the USD.  You would assume this but a lot has changed from the pandemic. Mechanics are in short supply and demand for fixing old cars has gone up from the cost of new cars. 250-300 USD/hr is not an unusual shop labor rate in California and you’re paying that regardless of whether the guy is competent or not. Coworkers have been quoted 3000 USD for a water pump and thermostat at a dealer on an N54. Oil changes went from ~75 USD to 150 on fairly normal cars like Civics. The cost of the oil and filter hasn’t even kept up with inflation.
    • The downside to that is that the cost of everything, particularly labour, is significantly higher here than it is over there in the Disunited States of Slavery. You can hire 3 tradesmen over there for just the Ranger Raptor allowance of a single 3rd year apprentice over here.
