nizmonut
no not nessassarily maybe if the turbo charger is new and is BB it will spool, stomp the gas pedal and you may get 5 psi or so. 09ONE_32
I don't think I have ever hit boost without load on the engine with any of my different engine/turbo setups. You should be able to get the BOV to vent though. R31Nismoid
you'll close off vacum no problem, you might register a psi or two on the gauge if you mash the pedal, nothing more. Usually if you are making a fair bit on the gauge, cam timing could be out etc Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/224499-are-you-suppose-to-get-boost-on-idle/#findComment-3954237 Share on other sites

R31Nismoid
well if your not making any real boost, how is it going to spool? There is no load Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/224499-are-you-suppose-to-get-boost-on-idle/#findComment-3954430 Share on other sites

bnr#@
Nope, floor the pedal on an rb26 in neutral and u may get a psi or 2 but nothing more, it revs out to quick and theres no load Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/224499-are-you-suppose-to-get-boost-on-idle/#findComment-3954788 Share on other sites
swanny180
Maybe your friends who's cars *do* build boost have an ignition cut rev limiter? slaughter
it will make a small amount ofpressure enough for a flutter or bov dump, but i def wouldnt call it boost Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/224499-are-you-suppose-to-get-boost-on-idle/#findComment-3955525 Share on other sites
(OO)SKYLINE(OO)
No boost on idle cause the turbine blades are not 'spooling'. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/224499-are-you-suppose-to-get-boost-on-idle/#findComment-3955550 Share on other sites
GeeTR
An old gurlfriends charade turbo would make 0.3Bar when at standstill and rev'd hard (not to the limiter though) OP - your mates might be using the handbrake to simulate load Edited June 19, 2008 by GeeTR Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/224499-are-you-suppose-to-get-boost-on-idle/#findComment-3955590 Share on other sites
PHA71L
i can get heaps in my charade haha only because the turbo is so small.... Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/224499-are-you-suppose-to-get-boost-on-idle/#findComment-3955593 Share on other sites

slaughter
You can make positive pressure without load, if you rev it hard enough.if my bov goesnt pssssssshhhhh when i rev it in idle then what else would make this noise apart from pressure?????????? bubba
I can make boost in neutral from idle but that a pissant 25 turbo on a 3L, 5psi or so if I rev it up. How's this though.. I can get some flutter or pssht while still in vacuum which is reasonably normal BUT, when I first put the motor in and didn't have the bov tight enough (so it wouldn't leak at idle), it was BLOWING air OUT at idle, not sucking in as you would assume while under vacuum. I put that down to the turbo spooling from idle so even though it's not creating positive pressure yet it's still pushing air in as opposed to the engine just drawing in what it needs at idle. Or am I way off? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/224499-are-you-suppose-to-get-boost-on-idle/#findComment-3955767 Share on other sites
W0rp3D
good ole cb70's... man you can chuck some timing into those! forgies standard!! NAH, you have to go real old school on those, G11 with a cb60 (i think that was the one, or was that the atmo) carbie turbo FTW, got some pics around somewhere of me doing roll backs in my old G11 atmo, man that thing took some punishment. on topic, mine does not build any pressure standing still, but i also have a .8 rear so that would not help. boostin_r33
funny with that I was playing around with my boost controller and while reving it in neutral i got 10 pound on idle anything wrong with that! Bumblebee
To answer the question directly... No u cant boost on idle. purely because the throttle body is closed and in the plenum u will have vacuum..
