I've had one before and it leaked like a bastard both the thread on the oil cooler and the actual pipe fitting on the hose leaked. Threw them both in the bin. Protecting an expensive engine with something that may develop something more than a leak isn't a good plan. It's only a $250 lesson anyway.

The factories that make them don't quality control anything. Everything that gets made there gets done in a big hurry.

hey guys, i have ne of these kits and i have to say its awesome....

there are two small things i dont like,:

1, the pipes are a bit long for a skyline. i am considering replacing mine with earls lines... measure the right lenght and order....

2, you must do up all the screw joins very tight. i had leaks where you have the thread adaptors go intot the oil adaptor for the engine side of things but once they were tight enough i have had no problems at all....

Like any product its only as good os the installer....put it in properly, check all joins etc, use teflon tape...blah blah blah and you'll have no trouble.

my final comments is to actually just order the parts of your choice from someone that stocks earls lines and bits and bobs and make your own kit up....there are so many variables like where you put the filter and where you put the cooler and where you run the lines. you must plan it out!!!!!

i am turned off with what ive read ,i to was going to get one from j/j but no way ive spent too much to buy crap now ,thanks for starting this topic .plus my mate has gone thru 2 j/j radiators now so i think its not a good investment to buy some things from there. :banana:

my opinion !!

ever since i go the fittings machined down flat and used copper washers i have had no leaks or issues with my JJ cooler. its worth the time and money if you do this mod straight up.

i also have a china cooler. and it leeks where u can attach your gauge senders. was considering thread tape but wasnt sure if it would be a good idea. see many ppl done it so will attemp it.

it was leeking a tick over 1/2 a litre every 5000kms,

its a bit sad that jjr have not posted some help in here, there are plenty of people that have posted the same problems with the same product, reminds me of a similar thread on there return piping intercooler kit, every one left to find there own solutions.

It's cheap gear at the end of the day and does work for people.

But,given busted oil lines kill motors (and it's not unknown to happen to quality gear) I would personally steer clear of oil cooler kits that are built in a hurry.

Teflon tape in quantity isn't a good thing even if it works it's not what you should be using for oil. Springing a big leak under load would not be your friend. It's not like a leaky sump gasket ,its pressurised oil. Game over occurs very quickly if you are track racing.

Enough fear mongering for today though.

I had a just jap oil cooler fitted to my old car and I to had oil leaks.

I did ask just jap on there thoughts and a way to slove this and

guess what they said they have sold heaps and never had a problem

at all, Bullshit just like the intercooler they tried to sell me the pipe

was 3inchs out of alignment.I did think of maching the fittings and

then fitting copper washers but in the end I wouldn't be happy with

how much meat was left on the fittings as there isn't much to start

with.The solution we come up with was to go to perteck they had

some fittings that fit straight in and have a seal moulded in to the

fitting and I think are good for 7bar and they fitted like a dream

and didn't leak at all and.They cost about $30 mark for the 4 of

them.With the fittings where the temp and thermostat went we just

used the plugs supplied with teflon tape and all of this worked a treat

not a leak any where.I would recommend when you are at perteck

buy some plastic sprial wrap it protecks the hose's from rubbing on

anything.Even though I did have problems to start with I would

buy another one with the above mods and custom length hoses.

Sorry I don't have the part numbers anymore as all my paper work

went to the new owner of my old car.
