you can usually find different typres of viscosities if you know who to ask .. I don't know if this has just been released or if it's always been out there and that simply the official distributor didn't advertise or bring it into OZ.

eg. when I was looking for a 15W40 I couldn't find Royal Purple in that viscosity because the OZ distributor doesn't carry it. But performanclub.com has it so if you're after a particular brand/viscosity it doesn't hurt to ask Howard (I think it's Howard) at performancelub.com he's in Melbourne from memory and shipping is usually pretty fast.

So it turns out Motul did indeed create a 10w40 8100 oil. Looks like this might be it. 5L for $69.95.

Hopefully this will fill the Sougi gap nicely. Anyone heard of this oil yet? I think it's only just been released, or is about to be.

Hey mate, where did you find this? I can't see it on the motul website and i googled it as well.

I'm on the Motul mailing list. It's not on their website as I've checked that too. But the email did say this...

These new 5L products from Motul are now available through Autobarn, Repco and performance workshops.

So worth calling or dropping into those stores to see.

From what I can gather this is the X-cess oil, with a new name in a new weight. So finally we have a 4100, 8100 and 300V all in 10w40.

MOTUL turbo light here. 6 changes in 1 and a half yrs of ownership. :) no issues

i dont notice it while racking up the 5000 or any pressure/temp difference, but i do notice a differnence in the feel and note of the engine after a fresh oil change.......cant put my finger on it exactly but it is a good feeling

For the Sougi fans...

I have 30 bottles of S6000 (full-synthetic) and 25 bottles of M5000 (semi-synthetic) left on the shelves at work. I was keeping it for my personal stash and closest friends, but the powers that be have said it needs to go, as it is taking up shelf space that we need. This is the last of the Gulf Western stock...they promised to send me the last of it...and unless other distributors/retailers still have it in stock, you won't find it anywhere.

For the newbies, S6000 is a polyol ester engine oil, frequently said to be on par with Motul 300V (both are awesome group 5 oils), but for half the price. M5000 is just as good, but being semi-synthetic, the service interval will be shorter (5000km-7500km depending on use). Both are 10w40 grade, which is pefect for Skylines. Apologies for what seems like an advertisement, I'm merely helping out the fans here first before I flog this stuff off to mechanics.

S6000 = $65

M5000 = $45

Pickup in Melbourne. Will post interstate at your expense, but only by the box (4 bottles). If you want individual bottles, organise the courier yourself! PM for details.

Cheers and RIP Sougi :)

Haven't heard anything yet. Nothing in the way of a full synthetic but M5000 has been replaced with SYN-X 3000 10w40 which is widely available and will be for years to come.

Edit: ethanol powered Stagea owners just ransacked my stock. 18 Bottles of S6000 left, 25 of M5000.

Thanks mate, those 12 bottles wont last long though... Better get in quick. :)

Wasn't SYN-X already an existing product? I wonder if it was actually the same stuff as M5000. They seem very similar in descriptions.

Now for some interesting news about Sougi, and why it got canceled.

Birds mentioned in an old post many months ago, around the time we first heard of Sougi being discontinued, that it was due to GW not having enough storage to house it.

But there was more to the story. The cost to produce it was simply too high. Creating a double ester blend of oil isn't cheap. But the main problem was actually using the ester. If the mixers and tanks were not cleaned properly and totally free of the ester, it would effect the next batch of oil. And by effect, I mean totally ruin other products mixed in the same equipment. The ester would turn the oil into a jello like substance. It would take the best part of a week to properly and thouroughly clean the equipment before other products could be mixed. Even a trace amount of ester left behind would cause problems.

The end result is the ester based Sougi won't be made again. I know Andrew (from GW) mentioned sometime back things weren't set in stone, but unless they purchase equipment that exclusively mixes ester, Sougi is done for.

Now the good news... GW are working on a new type of synthetic oil. It won't be double ester based however, but will be a fully synthetic oil. As I understand it, it's a new product that doesn't have a name yet. So it won't be the Syn X 3000 10w40 from what I can tell, but a new product. So there's hope yet that GW will produce a replacement product for Sougi. I was told this a few months back, so am not sure if this is still the case currently.

MP_R33, Sougi S6000 or M5000 would be what I'd recommend. If you can't locate this oil, then what Moodles2 mentioned would work as well. However 300V is very expensive and more than double the price of Sougi. 300V doesn't come in a 5L bottle, so you have to purchase a 4L + 2L which will run you over $150. Repco's 20% off is a good way to save some $$, but unless you tracking your car and trashing it 300V is overkill as it's the top of the line oil. There are plenty of alternatives so I'd suggest you read this thread going backwards about 20-30 pages and you'll find out all you need to know on what others are using in their cars.

Yes SYN-X was an existing product, but it came after M5000, so it was one reason not to continue M5000. It also meets a later specification (SM, as opposed to SL).

It wasn't so much the cost to produce that was too high, because they can just incorporate this into their pricing (and they have done so). But yes, with the time consuming mixing process, it's not worth interrupting production of the other, faster moving oils. It still came down to storage though, because mixing expenses/time aside, for GW to produce Sougi they have to make a ~30,000L tank of it at a time...so holding ~6,000 bottles of beer on the wall that could be used for other oils just isn't viable for a slow moving product, nor was the justified expense of obtaining seperate mixing equipment. Last I spoke to Andrew was just over a year ago, and he sounded less certain about whether they would produce another batch or not...from your more recent conversation, it sounds like they've decided against it for good in lieu of the new synthetic.

Whilst not a direct S6000 replacement, I have heard about the new full synthetic. Reason I haven't said anything about this in regard to Sougi, is because I'm not sure of the viscosity index yet. I'm holding out and hoping for a 10w40, in which case I will call it a Sougi substitute :)

P.S. 16 bottles of S6000 left on my wall lol.

it was doing it on cold starts for the first 2-3 minutes .. then it would progressively become unnoticable once warmed up. It's been like that for 18 months.

Yeah I've no idea why it was still doing it after everything was put on ...but since the morning after, have had atleast 5-6 cold starts and it's completely gone. And it's exactly the same type of noise as in those youtube vids and both those guys also had it go away after timing belt/waterpump/bearings were changed.

r34gtt 85k km's

Hi Wacky, I am freaking out. I think I have the same issue on my r34 gtt. The car sounds like a bit like a tractor valves noisy (although not as bad as in the vids) are noisy and there seems to be something like a piston slap noise.

Yes it seems to improve once the car warms up but if you listen very very carefully the dull smacking sound is still there.

Yes also near the top right, kind of like a whining noise somewhat uneven noise near the water pump and belts.

This all started after a service, oil oil filter - unknown oil and belts (not timing belt, maybe yes I dont think actualy)

Anyway the belts were slipping on cold start, squeaking and whining for about 5 sec, I had them adjusted and squeak is no more.

At first I thought it was oil, I was so freaking out I decided to change my own oil. Previously they overfilled it, I just changed it using Nulon 15 50 synth to haf between full and empty - went for a romp but the valve tapping tractor noise seems to have gotten worse! OMG!!

The thing is tell me exactly what you had replaced, I'm in Perth and just need to confirm..

Is it the whole water pump? and timing belt? you suggested genuine Nissan or I'd say stronger after market timing belt- why not..?
