The Goods On Oils

Ryco is a good brand

I use the drift filter, because they have a magnet built into them which I cut open and check every service even though I know the bearing are not metal lol

Diesel oil can be used in petrol motors but not a good idea for petrol oil in diesel motors and not a bad idea for performance motors, I used Castrol magnetic diesel oil for the run in on my RB2630 then switched to Brad Penn 10w40

From what i recall from ppl who have cut them open Ryco are just ordinary budget filters. From what's available in Australia, K&N are supposed to be good. Generally OEM filters are good, so i'd imagine Nissan filters would be a good option too.

I done a search and couldn't find a post about this - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/163258

Can anyone comment whether Castrol Edge 5w40 would be good for a Nissan Skyline V36 350gt?

Thanks :)

Should be ok, but it looks like its a dino so dont push the OCI. DI motors (is yours VQ35HR?) often contaminate the oil with fuel more than non-DI so shorter OCI on a dino is not a bad idea anyway. What does the owners manual specify? Make sure it meets all those requirements.

so is nulon's touted 'fully synthetic' range actually hitting that mark?

it's so hard to work out what is and isn't actually fully synthetic because the line seems to blurred

You will have to send them an email and ask. This is one of the reasons why I use Penrite, all info is available on their website, they even tell you about the additives used

If it says fully synthetic on the label, it must be fully synthetic or they're in breach of the consumer/fair trading legislation.

Fully synthetic can mean either;

Group III - hydrocracked mineral oil (there was some argument about whether this should be considered synthetic when it came out). All the cheap synthetics will be mostly Grp III.

Group IV - POA (or the new Gas to Liquid oils) eg Mobil 1

Group V - Esters eg Motul 300V or Redline.

running a lucas race 20w50 where can i get this type of oil from brisabne area or something the same of another brand

Unless you have a problem with oil pressure, i'd think about Penrite 10-Tenths Racing 10W-40.

That should be "Unless you have a problem with oil pressure or temperature" and temp should be <120 degrees.

What oil would be best for a gtr32 with a built motor? Previous owner was running Shell 10w40 semi synth with changes every ~8000KMs. Car is mostly street driven with the occasional midnight run (only driven couple times a wek). Is a semi synth and 10w40 ok? Recommended mobil is 5w30 thoig for a standard motor

anyone use moly-chrome 10w-40, i just put some in the Ls1, its very clear and clean looking compared to the penrite oils that have a darkish look straight out the bottle, autobarn guy said its german and good stuff.

Do you mean Liqui-Moly 10W-40? Its German and well respected. Don't judge an oil by its colour. You can't draw any conclusions from colour. For example. oil that looks black after use may just be doing a good job of cleaning the motor's insides.
