the thing is, over the course of time the car itself is probably not the biggest cost. you will spend lots of money on tyres, repairs, mods, entry fees etc. So if you plan to be doing this for a while I would advise save a bit more money and buy a better car. sure an R31 or whatever is do-able, but you will out grow it fairly quickly. far better to spend the money on a car that is easily upgradable as your skill improves. I would look at a basic SR20 powered silvia. in fairly standard condition they are still driftable and as you get better you can improve the car to match your improving skill and the car can be improved enough to be competetive at a very high level.

basic S13 with a 2 way LSD, coil-overs, and some light engine mods will make a great base. you will thank yourself for it later.

bahahaha..

forget the house man..

You're never going to outright own one anyway.... not when it matters..

what you are going to have is a mortage until you are retired, then live in it for a few more years till you die at which point your kids and grandkids are going to sell it and use the money to do up an R31 or silvia for drifting.

f**k them!! you do it.

anyway, I say stick to S13.

SR20 powered too.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread..

The guy I was refering to is one of the guys from the PEER drifitng team.

S13 with 220rwkw.

he's pretty much at the top of the field somewhere.

in the grand scheme of things, that is fark all power.

I mean, most S15 with stock turbo and support mods make 200rwkw.

fully loaded on the road a stock sr powered S13 weighs about 1150kg.

probably get that to 1000kg if it's a track only car.

and..

quick search shows that an SR powered one starts around the $8K mark with some mods..

Shitbox S13

or an RB powered one for same price..

RB S13 - $8K

You rock up to one with $6.5K give them the old "take it or leave it"

drive it home.

strip it down to it's undies.

sell all the parts to some NS.com member.

sell the motors you have and any other bits you won't need.

spend that cash on the suspension you'll need for arse dragging - sorry... drifting..

I would say it would cost less than buying the $1K chassis and putting your engine in it, then doing everything else to get it going.

that's actually a fair point... but i just dont have the $$$ to spend atm... just finished mt 33 and need to save a house deposit (seeing as i just spent one)

It's obvious that you are forgetting 1 very important fact.

You can't DRIFT a house...

But you CAN sleep in your car!!!

:D

Fellas, we just found the new SAU mission statement. Maybe change the word Silvia to Skyline first :stupid:

Quick someone get me Prank's email.

1/10 scale RC cars with some PVC tyres are cheap! $600 and you'll be owning hard in no time. :stupid:

Slightly more seriously,

S13's have beautiful balance, tons of relatively cheap parts made exactly for race/drift that have seen close to 2 decades of development, easy to work on, fairly reliable and they don't take a lot of mods to produce decent amounts of mid-range, tyre raping power. Plus a lot of people have done up S13's for drift, so you're not out in the cold when it comes to answers for set ups.

In hindsight I should never have sold mine, damn it was fun.

    • Isn't there a fitting on the back of the balance tube? That's what the OEM boost gauge uses.
    • Getting a decent signal from all 6 throats is a challenge. I don't know for sure, but I suspect that the stock balance tube is not ideal for it. I have done it on an ALFA 4 cylinder (about 35 years ago, so don't ask for too many details). We drilled 4x holes in the manifold runners, put in some fittings and ran hoses to a decent sized (I think it was about 20mm diameter) pipe that ran the length of the inlet manifold. So, it was quite a decent volume. There is a "tuning" balance to be found between the volume of the common plenum on such a thing and the diameter of the pipes running from it to the runners. You need the volume to be large enough to damp out the sharp spikes in pressure signal you get as each runner gets sucked on by its cylinder, but not so large that it becomes too slow to respond to actual changes in MAP. And you need the hoses to be small enough to transmit the signal quickly, but not so small that they delay the signal. You might have to have more than one go at it, if there isn't any actual success based wisdom to be had here. Hopefully there is. Anyway, I would not do it on only a couple of cylinders. I would also not care about "permanently modifying a part". Just bloody drill holes and make stuff better. There is nothing sacred about any GTR unless it is a genuine museum piece that you shouldn't be modifying at all anyway.
    • He's still joining you, he's just delayed it and won't have the fulleh sick ITBs...
    • The strange thing is this is a URAS front bumper (or clone of it). The bumper actually does not sit flush with the GTT hood - You need the addon to make the hood 'long' enough to reach the bumper. I have no idea why they didn't incorporate this piece into the bumper itself.. instead of sticking it to the hood instead.
    • Another thought on this OLD topic: When you paint your bonnet lip, leave a small unpainted back lip/line along the back of the lip, where it rests on the bumper. That way, the line in the back is much more prominent than the gaps in the front/under the lip - and it breaks the hood-to-bumper connection at the "correct" place, when comparing to a GTR. I'm gonna do this with mine this week, so stay tuned for pics!
