Yo, coming off the highway last night, chucked the car into neutral was just cruising and the car stalled, so i chucked it back into 4th to get it started again and it made this grinding noise (sounded like clutch, wasn't very loud) so i quickly put clutch back in and coasted to a stop. Got out checked oil which was fine, tried to start it and it sounded like the starter motor wasnt engaging (but i'm pretty sure it is). Anyway so it turns over but won't start, i cant really hear it as loud as it used to be either (like either it's getting no spark or getting no compression)

Anyway there was no real banging noise so i'm hoping the engine hasnt gone.. i got a new clutch about 500km's ago, could it be something flywheel related (i.e. maybe it's quiet cos the starter motor isn't engaging properly or smtn) or if it was getting no spark wouldnt it turn over quieter (on account of no ignition etc) or if it were not getting any fuel (on account of less compression)

any suggestions.. dad reckons if something had blown up i would have heard it

sum1 just pointed out it'd be easy to tell whether it was turning over from looking at the fan (which is turning) so it's turning over obviously.. anyway he said it might be the cam belt.. but if a cam belt snapped wouldn't it not turn over because the pistons would interfere with the valves?

I dunno why it randomly stalled and why it won't start again but i've kind of already decided if the engines broke i'll sell the car for 11k and just pay the loan off ._. sarks

cam belt mate, same thing happend to me at a set of lights tunring onto the highway, straight away i thought it was the solenoid getting stuck so was banging the f**k out of that, then realised there was no belt there anymore

EDIT: there isn't enough lift in the rb25 to interfear with the pistons, you can rotate the crank 360degrees with the timing belt off without the pistons touching the valves.. this may also be because they run hydrolic lifters i guess and at idle / when the engine is off there isn't enough pressure there to get maximum lift? perhaps with the extra lift and solid lifters this is what the grinding noise was

timing belts still in one piece (has markings about every half centimeter that seem to coincide with gaps in the teeth but am assuming these are duel to normal wear) which is good.. people were making me hell paranoid haha, any other suggestions

woooooooooooooooooooooo rebuild

YAY

compression at:

1)100 2)60 3)40 4)0 5)0 6)0

Time for engine loan on top of car loan.. engines being stripped apart atm to figure out what went wrong.. got no idea atm

now i just need a job..

I had a cam stick bust on me once, could be that, I actually thought of that when I first saw your post, but discounted it because you had no noise turning the motor over.

keep us posted

not sure whether they were related but i ruled the lack of power out altogether.. i think with the new clutch it was just alot more constant instead of slipping at certain points and the feel was just different.. i took my mech for a drive in the car at the time and he said power seems about normal so it's not that

car is still being ripped apart, interesting to know what did it.. was advised i'm better off rebuilding than selling car for 10k as car is in good overall condition

Problem is 3 melted pistons, caused by detonation.. Damn annoying, i bought a boost controller so i could run 10 psi (pcm was running 14) and somehow it's started detonating and blown it all

so gonna throw in some forgies, keep my current rods, get everything machined, new big end bearing and fuel pump, maybe a sump baffle kit some adjustable cam gears and throw it back together, probably lob some turbos on it down the track

idk i had been giving it a bit during the course of the night but at the time i was cruising in 5th (this about a minute after a few 7k rpm shifts) and yeh it just died

luckily the head is fine (didn't expect that) so it's just going to be ported and reshimmed (noisy) and back on

and yeh thats the plan baron, a reliable 320kw would be awesome

cheers guys
