so your willing to more then halve your available lpg tank size, because it doesnt "look" good in the boot?

you will regret having a gas tank the size of a milo tin..

who cares if you want the tank to be hidden, people gonna no its on gas when they see you fill up at the servo..lol.

a maltese mate of mine did a gas conversion to his 97 ford fiesta,lol got the biggest tank to fit what you call a boot in the car.. fills up once every 2weeks, and drives just for the sake of driving..

doesnt feel any slower and f**k the money saving is good...

benm, that's what I was going to do. Done this already on the race car and there's heaps of space, more than the boot would allow. Should get and easy 65L under there. Good for about 450km.

Not trying to hide the fact that it's on gas. Will fly the flag loudly and proudly once it's all working, just don't like how much space the tank takes in the boot, and more importantly, I want to be able to say with confidence that I haven't lost anything by going to gas. maybe a little bit less power, or a little bit less range (that would be hard given the limited range on petrol). Still want to be able to fit the golf clubs! :)

That's it for this week. I'll get back to it next weekend. Have to pull the motor out, not because of the lpg, because my turbo problem turned out to be a piston ring or valve problem so I'm going to rip it apart this weekend. I'll take some photos of the space under the car with the tank out and the spare cut out and post them on the weekend.

So you are going to cut out the spare wheel well and throw a part of the tank in there? cool, but where to for the spare tyre? Not beign problematic, i think its hell cool that you are throwing gas on it. Just if its going to be a daily driver, what are the legalities for chopping into the spare wheel well?

you wont be filling up every 100's i get 330k's out of 55lt's and removing the petrol tank is a stupid idea................. i already looked at that. there is no tanks unless u went custom that can be fitted in there. so do like i do, and dont carry a spare tyer unless your going out of the metro area.

Never carry a spare anyway, In the last 10 years I've had a flat once, and even then I only bothered with the can of goo to get me to the service centre. We've got 5 LPG falcons here at work and took the spare out of all of them because of the space. Never had an issue as technically you are not allowed to change a tyre because of OHS unless you've taken a driving and maintenance course. We just carry the patch in a can

A picture will explain better, but with the petrol tank gone, the spare wheel well just hangs down taking up a lot of space and making all the space around it useless. You cut the spare well out and weld in a flat sheet in it's place. You end up with tons of room under the boot and it's all flat. The only thing in the way is the muffler and it's all the way on the left hand side.

There's enough room for a decent size lpg tank, or better yet, 2 decent size tanks. I'll find out the cost on the twins today.

You should go have a look on the LS1 forum before doing this - they have a liquid injection system up and running now using multiple injectors, increase in power over a petrol car and 20% less gas use than regular LPG system. Price is supoosed to be only slightly more than the sequential systems.

I thought about getting the floor cut out of my 34 but then the price just seemed to go through the roof. only problem is that it would like a SLR5000 with a drop tank. if you end up doing it and end up successful i might look at it again. then i could tune it for dedicated gas instead of ultimate 98.

Not true. A lot of performance LPG specialists do the same and have multilple 'scuba-type' lpg cylinders (all connected and making one single tank) located in place of the original fuel tank (just like snags on a BBQ plate).

By the way, does everybody know there is currently a $2000 grant for anybody who fits an LPG system? You have to pay the cost of the conversion up front (regardless of whether you go straight gas, or duel fuel) but you then receive the $2000 refund. You may end up being out of pocket only $500.

Add that to saving of $1/litre and it starts to look pretty damn attractive, eh?

this has no relevance to lpg or petrol.

but i like your idea of doing this to a gtr.

Just got back from the LPG equipment supplier and piggyback smaller tanks are certainly an option. Tanks are not much different in price, but there is the cost of 2 mounting brackets and about $70 for some sort of balancing valve.

And yes, I'm definitively after the $2000 rebate. Big factor in getting this done.

    • Good morning all, Bit of a random question but figured I’d finally throw it out after wondering for a long while. Before I start, I'm hoping to do this purely out of personal preference. I think it would look better at night, and don't mind at all spending a few hours and dollars to get it done. I've copied this from a non-Skyline specific forum, so I apologize for the explanation of our headlight switch setup that we all know. Here we go: Zero lights (switch off) Parking lights (switch position 1) being a rectangular marker on the outside of the housing, my low beam being the projector in the centre (position 2), and a high beam triggered by my turn signal stalk. Most North American cars I’ve owned of this era have power to the amber corner (turning indicator) light as part of the first switch (parking lights). I’d love to have these amber corners receive power when the headlights and parking lights are on (headlight switch), yet still blink when using the turn signal which is of course a separate switch. Hopefully I’ve explained my question correctly. Is anyone aware of a way in which I might be able to achieve this? Thanks in advance
    • My heads are cathedral port! It's likely possible, but I don't want to add any extra moving parts (I know they don't move) between the heads, manifolds, etc. It will also affect how injectors/fuel rails etc sit and I don't really know if it would change how the FAST manifold goes/sits/fits. I have the LS6 steam pipes already as I have a very late LS1 block so it should be fine. I couldn't find anyone who had ever actually used one for this purpose, it seems 100% of people grind the water pump. The thermal spacers are 12mm and are half way to the cost of the newer water pump anyhow... so if it comes to that I suppose I'd rather buy a new pump. The bearing in the pump I do have is a little.. clunky, but it hasn't done that much time and I never noticed it when the car was together in the past few years, so..
    • The bushing has failed, not all that uncommon for a car of this age.  Any mechanic should be able to push in a new bushing for you, or you can probably buy the entire lower control arm, complete with bushes.
    • Could you not use "thermal" spacers to give the clearance, like the ones I used between the blower and head? That raised the manifold height by around 10-15mm Albeit the ones I used were for cathedral ports, but I assume they have similar for rectangular ports????
    • Thanks Paul I reached out to Autotainment but they no longer work on JDM cars as the guy who used to do the work moved on and is no longer doing that kind of work. I am talking with Level Up Audio though.
