yes there is a big difference. look at this list off the top of my head.

GTR, better engine both stock and potential wise

GTR better brakes

GTR better suspension

GTR better diff (2 way LSD vs viscous rubbish)

GTR better body (light alluminium panels, big flared guards, tough look)

GTR better wheels

GTR better seats

GTR better interior trim

GTR better intercooler

GTR bigger injectors

congrats. you just named everything a true enthusiast changes almost immedately after buying a car. when it really comes down to it, the only difference between a modded to hell GTST and a modded to hell GTR is the AWD. end of story.

if you guys want to run aorund racing every jit you see on the street in a sotck car, then get the GTR. If youre a builder, get the cheaper/lighter car and build it.

when it all comes down to it, 3 grand thrown under the hood of a B-series Honda is enough to talk a stock GTR from a roll.

gtrs seem to be the winners @ tracks... not gtst's.. not to say that gtsts are shit, coz theyre not. they have theyre fun points too, but when it comes to full on competition cars, no1 uses a gtst and wins. they all use gtrs. why? because they are a better platform car.. and if they are a better platform car, then that means tehy are better.

sorry for the double post but i just want ot reitterate that if youre the type of guy who just buys a car, leaves it relatively how it is, and gets a new one every 2 years, then get a GTR, but dont EVER call yourself an enthusiast, call yourself a FANBOY.

if you believe in building your own hotrod, get whatever you want because youre going to swap it all out anyway.

Gtrs always have it over GTS-t's looks wise thanks to there fat quarter panels and front guards.

the poor old gtst's need some fake fattening up. a good choice of kit, and some good offset does a good job with a nice low stance.

but even tho i couldnt really afford a GTR when I bought my gtst, i do like driving the underdog..

when your cruising about, people just assume that coz its no "godzilla" its just slow crap. the monaro/FPV bunch and golden examples.

i'm not saying that GTR's are not superior in pretty much every way possible, i just love driving a underdog.

the look on that ol fat bastards face driving a "aussie legend" looking at those R888's poking out past the qtrs on the GTST is priceless.

ya gonna hear spool , gate and thats it... GAME OVER

and around a dry track.. other than the start line, the gtr has no real advantage. a well setup RWD is no slower

Maybe an enthusiast likes the way Nissan produces a super car. Not how the car would be if you pile 50 grand worth of aftermarket products into it.

dont forget the gtr is essentially a rwd car until it breaks traction :laugh:

i would say if both a GTST and a GTR had the same power, same modifications

but one has the GTR running gear and one has the GTST running gear

that the GTR would be %5 to %10 quicker overall

i would put this down to AWD, being able to launch better

and twin turbo giving better linear response vs small single

Take an R33 GTS25T, and an R33 GTR. Throw a set of Tein Superstreets at each, the GTR Brembos onto the R33 GTS25t and a complete RB26 conversion so that both cars are running std RB26s with exhausts and around 230rwkws. Now give them both GTR rims with RE55s

It would make for an interesting comparison. Now up the power to 330rwkws and compare. I wish i could find a girl with a rich daddy who would let me do a comparison.

The above would give you a pretty good idea of how much difference the AWD makes. As others have pointed out the GTR is better in lots of places, so i dont think its the AWD that once at speed makes them as good as they are....

hey at the end of the day it comes down to if ya cant afford at gtr you get a gtst. and if you get a gtst and want it as fast as a gtr track/street/drag you will hav to spend to much on it as buying the gtr in the first place, why not just get the gtr?

didnt wanna sort through everything that has been said... but i have owned 2 gts-ts and I have driven several GTRs (all r32 models) and the stock GTR was same speed as my rb20 i had spent 10k on. My gtst had all suspension possible exept tie rods and front control arms. Yet the gtr with no 4wd fuse and coilovers in it, handles better, they have a complete diferent suspension setup to gtst and in my personal experience its much better.

Not to mention the clutch plate diff, lighter, better looking front panels, rear wide body, interiour, the purr of a rb26, and more potential with factory parts... GTRhands down

That's the diff I thought they had. Which one is it? Now if you are you guys just calling the clutch disc type diff a really weak 2 way? If so, you might as well call a viscous a really really weak 2 way. Clutch disc type diff's are no where near what a mechanical 2 way diff is, but both viscous and clutch disc type diffs don't care what direction they are going in order to work.

I think this thread is a bit all over the place because no one is being specific with what they are comparing.

In my opinion there is quite a large difference between a R32 GTR and R32 GTST (which seems to be the main point every one is arguing). Engine wise is what mainly comes into play when comparing the RB20 and RB26. Torque difference from the larger displacement is something that can't be over looked.

However, between a R33 GTST and R33 GTR i believe the difference begins to narrow. The RB25 and RB26 are in essence the same bottom end. The differnce here lies between the turbo setup, the head and individual throttles. This is obviously comparing them stock to stock . The RB26 has more power, however it is also a lot heavier than the GTST. The thing is, a R33 GTST was always that much cheaper than the R33 GTR and it's only nowadays that R33 GTR prices are falling. The money saved on a GTST could easily be spent on matching the engine performance of a stock GTR.

When it comes to handling the GTR has better coilovers from factory over the GTST, thicker sway bars and a better diff (unless you have a factory optioned Vspec ALSD model like mine). Once again, most people can put better coilovers and thicker swaybars on so once again nothing big. The main difference here is the 4WD system which is the GTR's MAIN ADVANTAGE.

Thing im trying to say, obviously stock for stock the GTR is always better, hence why they cost more. Once they begin to be both modified, it depends what is done to both and the margin between them starts narrowing. Look at people putting twin cam RB30's in. Smashes a GTR's performance. The thing that can't be changed is putting the power down to the ground with ATESSA. This is what seperates a GTST and a GTR and is the main contributing factor to GTR's being so quick off the line or on a track when big power comes into play. (Unless you have a ATTESSA equiped GTST :P )

So i don't really get the point of this thread.

Is a stock GTR better than a stock GTST/GTT.......Yes.

Can a GTST/GTT be modified to smash a GTR........Yes.

Can a GTR be modified to smash a modified GTST/GTT......Yes.

The thing is, it's all a question of money. You have lost of money, you can make anything fast. Simple as that.

    • No intention of driving the car the way it's set up now, just wanting to make sure I haven't made any mistakes along the way so that the tune can go smoothly, I don't want to waste anyone's time with stupid issues. And of course I intend to get it towed to the dyno in a completed state 😅 I have the base fuel pressure with the vacuum disconnected set at about 40psi, which I believe is at least relatively close to stock fuel pressure, maybe I'll have a fiddle with the reg and see what happens. For all I know I could be wasting my time with this and I should just plumb it in and see what the tuner reckons. I just find it a bit strange that it seems to be under so much load just free revving, but maybe that's just a result of the turbo slowing down the exhaust gasses and making a restriction in the flow, with no boost to compensate.

    • Right, so is the fuel pressure the same as it was previously? If not, well, it's not going to work well. I can understand the theory I assume you are going for, which is: "Run it N/A, and if I have the original AFM, and same amount of fuel and intake air as previously, the fact there's a turbo in my exhaust should still make it run" Which it... might? Provided you don't actually change how much air or fuel is going into the car.. or getting out. But if you have changed that, all bets are off. What is the purpose to even have the car run this way? To get it to a tuner? And if the goal is to limp it to a tuner, you're still going to what - plumb up a whole intercooler system and new intake in the parking lot out front before your tune......?
    • Haha yea it's a bit of a weird setup at the moment, just wanted to make sure I sorted out any headaches before dyno day. At the moment I've changed the exhaust manifold, turbo and downpipe, 460lph fuel pump and rising rate reg as well as the previously mentioned headstuds and gasket. The nistune was already mapped for the car as it was and drove around for a few months no worries. The plan is to run flex fuel hence the big pump, which I've wired direct to the battery through a relay to avoid voltage issues.
    • Um. Was the ECU the same as the one previously there? I know R33's needed R32 GTST ECU's or other tomfoolery to run Nistune. This is such a wild setup. Most people would plumb in the turbo then not drive the car (i.e tow it to a tuner). What's actually changed since it last ran?
