Not necessarily. The KA24DE saw duty in the US-delivered Silvia in a longtitudinal mount.

I'm pretty sure old-school Pintaras are RWD - my mate had a TRX with an FJ20 - and I don't think anyone makes an FR with a latitudinally mounted engine.

After looking at pictures of the Pintara and Bluebird, yeah I probably am thinking of the Bluebird TRX.

And according to Wikipedia, the KA24DE powered Pintara was FWD. SR20 is the only reasonably feasible option, I'm afraid.

SR20 > RB20 anyway :flamesuit-on:

you could possibly get the SR20DE out of the pulsar and thwack it in...

the KA24DE did come out in u13 bluebirds, and is quite a popular donk, and has been transplanted into a few U12 Pintaras + Turbo'd

CA18DE/T is another option - (from the EXA)

Rb20 = NO.

I presume in saying KA24 you've got a U12

head over to www.antrx.com and see what they've got going on.

make sure you add the right stickers and autobarn washer nozzles and chrome hubcaps...

oh and its GOT to have the throwover seat covers.

5 inch cannon

and go to antrx.com.......

read for about 3 days.

dont post anything, just search & read.

the bottom line is:

SR20det fits,

need a SR20de gearbox from N14/15 pulsar

OR get a KA24e 5 speed manual, get the SR bellhousing bolted to that (with a 4 minute grind job)

need bluebird engine mounts or custom

need pulsar driveshafts & cv joints, possible custom

The Pintara with the KA24 is a FWD. So, the KA24 is the E-W version. It superseded the R31 Pintara, which was RWD.

surely the SR20DET out of the u13 bluebird would fit.. east-west mounted DET and will fit anywhere an east-west mounted DE will fit...

Would probably pull about 147fwkw out of it with a decent install...

The other engine you could swap out for (prolly harder to find) is the SR20DE VVL (not sure on engine number).. i think it comes in one series of xtrail... nice motor and will give you more power than a normal DE.. close to DET performance in standard form i believe

edit: ok i did a bit more research.. the VVL version of SR20 is called SR20VE.. There is also a SR20VET version of this engine which is said to have come out of the factory at 280ps (206kw) although this engine may have been mounted N/S but i cant find info on this..

The SR20VE is good for about 136kw

Keeping in mind the a standard SR20DE is good for about 105kw at flywheel.

SR20VET is found in the X-Trail, so its also a latitudinally mounted engine.

A GTiR's SR20DET (with the quad throttles) makes more power, stock, than the U13's SR20DET. I think the blocks are stronger and the GTiR uses a T28 to the U13's T25, as well. It should be cheaper than the SR20VET, and will certainly be easier to find in Australia.

The GTiR's SR20 does make more power and torque than the u13's.. problem is they are a bitch to mount E/W and to transfer from 4wd to 2wd.. people used to try it in pulsars (N14&15), but most people took the easier (and i dare say cheaper) route of the u13 SR...

Something i would like to see would be how many of the components from the GTiR version would bolt up to the others.. quad throttles etc..

A forum that i used to be a member of would prolly have more info on E/W mounted engines and value for money options.. www.pulsar.org.au

If the forum hasn't gone to the trolls yet, it should have some decent info..

Interesting the turbo flanges differ though... didnt know that.

umm GTI-R SR20s are mounted east-west standard.... and it's pretty much a front drive set up too, just with a transfer case off the back of the box sending power to the rear. after all GTI-R is based on an N14 front wheel drive platform, just with awd added.

oh, and it has lots of advantages over the other versions of SR20. it has solid lifters, bigger cams, better springs, better head, quad throttles, piston oil squirters in the block, bigger T28 steel wheel turbo (that can handle serious boost), different block, different crank (wider conrods and conrod bearings too), some say better pistons too. that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Bingo, also rebadged as a Ford Corsair..

bigger T28 steel wheel turbo (that can handle serious boost),

the baron of beer is correct.

a friend was trying to pop his as he had another engine and turbo setup ready to go in.

AVCR peak hold showed 1.9Bar

Apexi RSM peak hold also showed 9765rpm.

Didn't pop.

rb20 does fit in a pinntara as i was in one last night..hes got a silvertop in it but i think the rb20 is from a ceferio

That would have been an R31 pintara, not a U12 pintara.

    • I just got to work and skimmed through 61508 and 61511. I was surprised the CSA adopted both, but neither are enforced. To recap what I read, it states that in a perfect world, they should be segregated but they acknowledge that this is not industry standard and clearly mention that they allow mixing of safety and non-safety. 61511 also mentions software segregation like AB does in their safety PLC's.   Now if only I could go back to control, let alone safety over comms. In my current line of work, we're only allowed monitoring and basic control over comms. Everything critical must still be hard wired as much as possible.
    • I've unfortunately never been as they're on the complete other side of the continent and another country that isn't currently letting us in as easily as they use to. I even heard their stop signs over there actually say "Stop" instead of "Arret". If I decided to trek the 48h drive, I wouldn't know when or where to stop haha. Whenever I order parts from UP Garage, I order from Japan as it's cheaper. Same with GKTech... oddly enough, it's cheaper shipped from Australia then it is the US.  UP Garage Japan operates their US leg though, unlike Tomei. If Tomei JPN had the power to close down Tomei USA, I'm sure it would be done in a day. They're two completely separate entities. Tomei JPN messed up somewhere originally agreeing to its creation and got sacked big time.
    • I asked someone about this and he told me about the Audi 1.8T engine. But I think it would be difficult to swap
    • I don't know that machine specifically, but I'd personally go for something with a little more kick than 130amp. Around up to 180 would be good. At the 6mm range, you're really pushing the machine hard and don't have a long period you can run for with out needing to give it a rest. Lots of MIG machines come with a regulator and hose. A lot will come with a starter roll of wire too, but it isn't too expensive to buy. I'd recommend NOT buying a massive roll too, as you don't want it sitting around FOREVER in the machine between uses and potentially going to shit. For thin sheet metal, get a roll of 0.6mm if you're doing over 3mm and above, switch over to 0.8mm wire. Even by 2mm you'd probably really want to switch. As for gas battle, it's all swap and go style now. You'll pay a bottle deposit, and then X amount to swap for a full one. I think it's like $200 or $300 for a D Size bottle upfront as "deposit", and like $110 to $150 per swap. My D size CO2/argon bottle lasts a fair bit of welding on the MIG. And I run an E size bottle on the TIG. For DIY MIG, stick with a D size bottle. If you really start to get into a LOT of welding and doing it really regularly, then upgrade. If you're like most DIY car guys, one D bottle will last you 2 or 3 years easily. I think I've been on my current bottle about 5 years. It is starting to get low, but I've been smashing it a lot more the last 6 months.
    • SR20s came with cars like the Bluebird and Primera, but the RB20 never came. The ones in Turkey were either brought in specially or from abroad. That's why RBs aren't as common as SRs. And if a part breaks or I need to replace it when doing maintenance, it's harder to find parts for RBs.
