Hi,

I've been thinking more and more lately about getting a dedicated track car.

I've been tossing up between a R32 GTR, Gts-t or same with R33's.

The plan was to import a car from Japan with a few goodies and then strip it once it gets here.

But, lately I've seen a few cars come up such as this one.

Is this a good buy?

I'm not planning to get into door to door anytime soon, more looking at super sprints, and something I can just rock up to the track in and not having to worry about driving it home.

With cars such as this, will the maintenance costs be massive compared to say a GTR turned into a track only car?

I'm not worried about transport as a cousin makes trailers who will basically give me one :-)

Any views will be appreciated

cage won't be a problem for supersprints in my experience.

it certainly looks to be a very well built cage, but can't really see what's going on with the rear half to tell if it matches CAMS drawings. obviously don't know what material is either. That will only be a potential problem if you want to go circuit racing in future.

is it a good buy? $15k for race use only and not alot of details about what its got... If its got a strong, built engine its probably OK value. But it certainly isn't a bargain. If you're buying it with intentions of throwing in a turbo engine, it's even less of a bargain. Add in the price of a car trailer too.

I'd still sell my 400bhp CA18DET 1200 coupe racecar for $19K - and you wouldn't build its engine for that! and its only $4K more than the silvia.

Take a look on my105.com before you commit to anything, as 20k can buy you a lot of car on there. It looks like a fun car, but it doesn't look to be in the best nick, and the parts look a touch old, or it's been sitting in the open for a while.

Yea,,,I'm with the boy's,,,it smells like trouble and a wallet emptier. If it had the real engine in it and you could test drive it at a track day then maybe. God only knows what else has been removed or swapped.

You could not buy/build that car for under 15 grand locally unless you have all the parts and the know how to build it yourself.

Thats said the cage may require some work to get a ROP certificate depending if it falls into one of the basic cams designs or not.

The SR20DE can be made into a pretty good thing and the fact that they can be held flat out around most of our circuits lends to decent times from them.

Look at the photos a bit closer.

The oil cap has been tie wired into place.

Front bar does not appear to have been cut up to suit a front mount

The loom is an SR20DE loom and it looks as old and crappy as the rest of the car.

The breather hoses are heat taped.

Obviously cant be sure but I think that engine has been used in that vehicle for a while atleast.

That amount of gusseting between the B pillar and main hoop of the cage is going to weaken both the cage and the chassis through the heat from the welding. I wouldn't tough it with a 10' barge pole.

or for similar money buy this. it's elligible for at least 2 classes of door to door racing, and whilst learning you can just run it at track days and supersprints. would be great fun.

Seriously though, appreciate all the opions.

I'm getting some half deecent interest in the V35, so once it goes, I goes shopping.

hey I'm really late in this thread, but that last corolla linked is the one I was racing the other day. good for a .50 around oran park south. he has posted vides on you tube of his incar too. good bloke too.
