Hey people

I'm on holidays at the moment and the days are too nice to be sitting around the house saying 'I'm board'. I want to get out onto some open road, do some challenging senic drives maybe do some photography.

have been doing some reading on the net but there isn't really much info on the trip more the destination. So what suggestions do people have? whats your faviorite drive you think about when your sitting in the office?

My landlord told me about Mt Nebo rd, which I plan to drive in two weeks.

I live on the Northside at Burpengary but I guess I'm keen to travel keeping in mind the price of petrol the sooner the open road starts the better.

Yep all of the above! :) Also, depending on the kind of driving you want to do you can head inland and go over the D'Agular Range (I think that's the one) heading toward Warwick, hook a right about 10km before you actually get into Warwick, head to Toowoomba via Allora, then head back towards Ipswich from Toowoomba the twisty way (Murphy's Creek Rd) then head home via Rosewood, Ipswich then the highway? You could even do the Bunya Mountains if you don't mind putting some kays on your car.

Queen mary falls owns all, Roads, Scenery, the lot. continue on to kilarney and back across the wheatbelt toward warwick then take revheads murphy creek option, Just watch it, its not as secret as it used to be and plenty of heavy transport is starting to use it.

Or, drop back down off queen mary and head out through boonah. Turn right at Rathdowney and drive for about 15 mins. do the bellbird range. About 40 kays of heaven with very limited traffic. Turn around and do it all again in reverse, You'll be dizzy by the time you finish.

Oh yeah forgot about Queen Mary Falls, oh noes! :)

You serious about heavy traffic using Murphy's Ck Rd? That sucks :)

Yeah, Last time wazz terry and i cruised it we met about 5 semi's. the road condition is indicative that they have been using it for a while too. Spoke to a local who said they are using it more and more all the time to dodge the rta boyz. Pity really. That farkin canyon in there is the best rev limiter backfire on the planet. Sounds like a freakin Howitzer reverberating off the canyon walls.

you sure you dont mean heffier creek road? the one that comes out near ma ma creek? cant remember any canyons on murphies, murphies is the alternative to the Toowoomba rang on the crown nest side

And yeah if it is Heiffer creek all the trucks from the Lockyer use it to get up tp Warwick and have a fair bit of trouble stayin on thier side of the road :S ha ha

The gold coast hinterland has some great ones

springbrook- mudgeeraba road

nerang - murwillumbah road

oxenford - tamborine road

another good one is up over nebo down to esk, then esk - hampton road over to toowoomba then home

just playing with my GPS, going to go Dayboro rd > Mt Mee rd > Neurum st > the Dag > Kilcoy > Esk-kilcoy rd > Wivenhow-Somerset rd > Mt Nebo rd then hom via waterworks and Brisbane traffic

the plan is to crack this one starting early on Monday the 30th, stopping for plenty of tea and scones and photos I think. Anyone that is interested in joining is more then welcome

I have family in the Dayboro area. watch out for cops from Dayboro to Mt Mee.

some parts of the road from Dayboro to Ocean View aren't that great.

If driving it on weekend, look out for clowns on bikes cutting corners. my brother-in-law is the local ambo in the area. he pick up a few every weekend.

Other fav drives;

1) Head inland from Currumbin -- Currumbin Creek Rd, through Currumbin Valley, cross the NSW boarder and head to Murwillumbar.

2) There are a million great roads in Nth NSW. When heading for Byron, instead of turning left off the highway to BB, turn right - head west into the hills - hours/days of fun!

Generally speaking, i think the country roads in NSW are better maintained than QLD (hate saying it)

where ever you end up, safe travels and report back the good places you find!

Wow, reading all those roads brings back some fond old memories of great corners and rolling hills,

I have been on nearly all of those, but we some times join 2 or 3 together on a round trip!

Last time, we went to Mt glorious and zig zagged our way up to montville (long drive!) and out to kennilworth! so when your done done down Brizzy way, head north! its worth a stay in Montville at a B-N-B, the girls will love you for it, then treat em to the waterwalls at Malaney next day.. You get to cruise and corner, the girls have a great weekend out!

We also went right over the top of Mt tamborine and out the back way home(north) not that exciting in itself(no where near long enough), but stop and go to their distillery!

These are all places and roads the bikers frequent (thats me now also)...

All sugested locations are top notch...

I also like the drive up over Mt G then down through Kilcoy and back onto the highway home... You get a get view of sommerset dam and its very fun...

After you have been up and over and down the other side you will see what i mean... Mt G dominates all mountain roads... :/

And dude, if your on holidays and didnt go away somewhere, spend a few dollars on fuel, enjoy your time off.

yeah thats a good way to look at it, got myself a snow boarding trip booked in two weeks...fark yeah

Should do an early 5am Sunday Kenni run...amazing landscape...and its a challenge....Saddle up.... :(

Kenni run?

Just got home from this one, was an awesome day I really enjoyed it. Mt Mee was nice and the west end of Mt Nebo/Mt Glorious road was way tighter then I expected, really really enjoyed Mt Nebo road. farks me how people in cars can speed through there I thought doing 80 was pretty fun! and thats the speed limit.

really glad i did the drive now, found some no limit roads out just east of Kilcoy too.
