Its unthinkable but someone else got stabbed here in Akihabara just 20 minutes ago.

I went out for lunch with 2 co workers and we went for some curry, finished that, came back and 10 minutes after that, a student comes in and tells us a cop has been stabbed down the street.

I go back out and find the place where it happened and it was right next door to where the 3 of us were eating!!! Holy mother or God...

It turns out an otaku ( or Akiba geek ) was carrying a knife the size of the shorter version of a katana - a wakizashi - in his bag and some of us here know that these kids do that to protect themselves from muggings by thugs who roll the kids for their cash.

So police are searching bags of the kids to see if theyre packing blades or worse.

Turns out one cop ended up knowing how it feels as well.

What i dont get is that after seeing the knife, the cop ASKS the guy to hand it over...which the guy did and then left it in him...

Its screwed up...you never know if and by who your going to get stabbed around this place lately and whats even more screwed up, the idiot was carrying this weapon around only a couple of weeks after that major shitstorm stab session blew through the city..

I think ill start thinking about a different career path...

Jap cops carry guns !! Well they do in Hokkadio..talking about cops the cop presence here for the G8 summit is off the richter. Literally all gaijin coming into Chitose airport are being subjected to body and luggage search by plain clothes cops. Theres cops every where here at the moment, sure doesnt feel like friendly japan thats for sure.

I nearly ran a cop down tonight. There doing these mass road side stops checking cars and practicing in case of terrorists.

I was driving along, lights started to change to red when about 30 cops jumped out into traffic with stop signs..I had to lock up to not run this idiot over.

Supposedly they arrested a heap of people related to the akihabara stabbing..

TOKYO —

In the 16 days since the June 8 stabbing rampage in Tokyo’s Akihabara area, police arrested or took other actions against 17 people for posting claims on the Internet including expressing intent to commit mass murders or other crimes, a survey by the National Police Agency showed Tuesday.

Subjected to the actions were men and women aged 13-30, according to the agency. Of the 17, the police across Japan arrested 12, while sending papers to prosecutors on or taking other actions against the remaining five on charges such as extortion, interference or misdemeanor.

The crime declarations posted by those arrested on the Internet included such messages as ‘‘I would imitate the Akihabara incident’’ and ‘‘I would commit a mass murder that would become history.’’

But on a more important note.....

diff carreer as in getting out of aki or japan altogether? what do you do anyways?

did anyone chase the guy down? jap cops dont carry guns do they? its only detectives or those sorts right?

Im a University lecturer by trade, right in the heart of Akiba.

The stabbings took place literally on my doorstep. Many of the students are spooked by this activity and rightfully so, they dont want to be next.

For it to happen to a cop, where cops in Tokyo carry loaded weapons, just adds to the feeling that, well, even if you are a cop and still get stabbed, what hope do you have as an ordinary citizen.

Thats why im glad ive been training in muay thai for the last few months - i consider the weapons defense techniques as a bonus thrown into my training, lol.

  • 2 weeks later...
eh????

you can alway muay thai the guy's balls or face

I can't see you thai moo'ing anything when hes in the 2 tonne truck thats pointed straight in your direction, and you're the innocent by stander who's about to get unknowingly hit from behind...

In fact, the murder rate would seem to be very low in Japan.

A search of websites provided the following information. The statistics came from an American site that didn't appear to be promoting Japan as a safer place than it actually is.

Murder rate per capita from 62 countries listed:

No. 1. Colombia. 0.617847/1000 people.

No.43. Australia. 0.0150324/1000 people.

No.60. Japan. 0.00499933/1000 people.

As with all stastics, be careful how they're interpreted. However, Japan seems to have a well deserved reputation for being safe.

its is a much more honest country compared to western countries overall . However as always there a re a few people who ruin it / something from someone / everyone.

If a crime happens here eg a stabbing / murder etc etc it is usually very horriffic, mind astonishing , down right out of this world disgusting, sick to your back teeth ,,, i think you get the idea.

Or your misso thinks you"ve been rooting round and you wake up and she"s got ya penis she"s just cut off in her hand.

Japanese women are bloody jealous creatures...

    • Yes, but no. You need to keep the mating surfaces bare (ie the flat faces where the caliper and upright pads touch the dogbone) and also the internal threads will remain bare (unless there are no internal threads - do they use nuts on all the bolts?). So you can slow down obvious external corrosion, but not all of it. Anodising would be required to provide decent protection to the alloy, but I'm not actually sure if you should anodise something that is all about the strength. Anodising does reduce strength significantly. Like, up to 50% on some alloys for high thickness coating.
    • Thanks   does painting on aluminium work or stop them from corroding?
    • 'Sgot nothing to do with them being Japanese. The climate in the north of Japan has similarities to the UK - the cars are made in the knowledge that they have snow and salt, and they rot there. Cars made in the US rot like buggery in the US. British cars have always rotted regardless of the weather. They will rot indoors in a climate controlled bubble! The brackets are not unsafe yet, but they will get that way. They may well corrode where the bolt threads are in contact and the bolts could just jump out without warning.
    • So unsafe would you say now?   little bit of has come off, guess road salt is a nightmare for Japanese car. Mx5 here have a well known issue or rotting
    • Dissimilar metal corrosion. Aluminium is less noble than steel/iron, and will corrode preferentially when in contact with it and a conductive solution (ie, wet road salt). Tends to suggest that those brackets should be made in steel for a shitty climate like the UK.
