i earn way under 50K haha im a bloody 2nd yr apprentice.

I've historically earnt anywhere from $25-30k when I was younger, but now I have more experience I can command more. Nowadays I'm over $50k but only just. And back when I was running a business from home part time, my profits (after expenses and tax) were as low as $25k. So theres a big leeway.

I think even if I won lotto, I'd still work at my current job. By far its the most enjoyable job I've ever had and I'm very greatful for it. I had a nightmare job for 2 weeks early this year which reminded me how badly life can suck (and for $35k too, it was no wonder I quit within a fortnight. Assholes took 2 months to pay me the 2 weeks wages too, and even then withdrew 48% tax).

Working for yourself might seem like the dream job but it comes with so many headaches. I personally hated it. Sure the flexibility was nice but you had to work twice as hard just to get the business. And even then it was no guarantee you'd get repeat business or word of mouth from the same people. Granted this can vary from trade to trade, and in some cases working for yourself can be a huge bonus, but if you're not business oriented (like me, I'm a technical brain, $ i have no clue), have no idea about tax, insurance, 3rd party costs, accounting, invoicing, debt collection and administration and most importantly, operational details, then you have no chance.

Would be nice for the more business oriented blokes to give their 2c. As well as the accountant types who havent got a clue how to hold a screwdriver...and any of u guys out there doing it on your own; what is it, that makes a sole trader successful?

I know I love working for this company, even if I am a subcontractor. Its so much better than being a sole trader.

You're only an idea away from making your 1st million and once you've done that the 2nd million comes along alot easier........money begets money!

This is the part i love:

Farmer's Union owner National Foods spokesman Julian Caples said iced coffee was a clear market leader here with South Australians drinking 36 million litres of it every year. "South Australians drink 45 million litres of flavoured milk every year and we have 82 per cent of the market," he said. "We wish Coca Cola well."

Coca Cola shall fail miserably.

i started off with an traineeship.... crap 6 bucks an hour for a hole year... dint go up much more over $21k after then 32K yo years later at another job... then opened my eyes... quit my job then moved to melbourne... not earning 52k a yeah... but still over 50k... it would be good to get the money and keep working...

A lot of construction workers are easily on over 50k per year.

Steel framing for example you can quite comfortably pull in 70-80k.

Construction there is quite good money.

Maybe factory workers drink more ice coffee. :S

the thing about this is, steel framing for houses is not even a trade!!!! its just a course that takes a few weeks

if u do a proper trade you can earn lots more.... doctors and other professionals are well shitty about this, cos they dont really earn that much more after years of uni :P

in countries like germany, blue collar ppl get the same respect as white collar ppl. cos they recognise the skill and the need for both

48% tax? :) Were you paid on an Award rate? That sounds like the rate of GST withheld when an ABN is not supplied. Employees are not taxed at this rate, only suppliers with no supplied ABN. Even employee bonuses are taxed at 41.5% You do have a TFN right?

Hope you got it back come tax time.

good point Andrew either Reuben has forgotten this or he can host the next SAU dinner ;):D

Not forgotten.

Yes, thats after tax.

No, I'm not hosting dinner. :)

goods & services is only 10%, I think you meant group tax which would be correct if no TFN was supplied or its a 2nd job.....either way its always adjusted end of financial.

really bugs me that if you're an employee these days, there's no incentive to do overtime due to tax bracket creep.......so in answer to an earlier question Ben, thats one of the good reasons to be self employed even if you get tied to your job like I've been lately (missing out on cruises & social gatherings  )

You should of given workplace relations a call while standing next to him. Would of given that computer bloke a thing or to to think about. Sounds ilegal to me if you were a casual employee.

Back on topic, WHO WOULD SAY NO TO ENOUGH MONEY THAT COULD BUY A 34GTR. :D

I wouldn't. LOL

My boss would love that two .(buy the way, I'm taking a year of mate because I won $52,000 . See ya in a year) LOL. ;)

I did mean group tax, but I was comparing it (being so high) to the 48% withheld with no ABN.

Sounds like no TFN was given, or indeed it was a second job ... but 48% WTF!!!! Ouch.

Just sounds like the employer was ripping him off ... was a Group Certificate/PAYG Summary supplied to claim it all back!

:D

hmmm 52k nah i am a second year apprentice and earn near that. i dont drink it though but do enjoy it every now and then. i know a bloke who buys 6 a day and even started buying them in crates from the milkies and he earns 2x 52k. but 52 to do sweet fa nice.

is classic strawberry milk a farmers union product? if so i need to change my vote :( and yes ive already received sh*t about drinking it.

much like when im at the clubs i make my drink selection to impress other men seems a lil gay to me. some might even say gayer than someone who drinks strawberry milk and refuses to drink beer :D but ofcourse i don't know anyone who does that

which reminds me, gotta upload that pic of you sucking down a strawberry shake at the charity cruise.

im sure that evidence was destroyed, no wait it never happened :D

i think there's been enough embarrasing pics of me (damn you cara) on this webpage :( ah well 1 more wont kill me, my cool status wont go much further below minus 5

Wanna bet? ;) Any bloke with anything pink (strawberry milk counts) and showing they enjoy it is severely going to destroy the 'cool' status

    • I replaced the whole clutch line with the chase bays braided hose, I think it removes that loop, is it the short hose that comes immediately off the slave or is there a drawing in the manual to find what you’re referring to? It was just re-bled when I upgraded to the nismo slave, old slave worked fine but I thought that might help, didn’t change a thing. It’s like the first half of the pedal is pushing air and then when it finally actuates the master the friction zone is tiny. Makes it practically impossible to launch the car
    • Yep, that was one of the things we learned fast in the past with our MX5. When you drive with the top down, you are effectively standing out in the sun, 100% of the time, and not getting in any shade (because roads aren't shaded generally!). Just like standing out in the middle of a field on a sunny 27C day is a bit of a bad plan, so is sitting in a MX5 without sun protection.
    • I also just ordered some Frankenstein bolts and side mounts to fit a hard top Just in case I do find one, basically so it doesn't need to be fixed to the car with only the front latch.......and then gaffa tape to keep it in place for the RTN journey from wherever I get it
    • If your temps are fine now, you probably won't have any issues with where your vents are as they don't look right up at the windscreens high pressure area, so any differences when giving it the beans for extended happy laps would be minimal, but, they should vent heaps when stuck in traffic  Much like how that reverse cowl on my SS let "visible" heat out when stationary, but, because it was basically at the windscreen my coolant temps on the Hwy actually raised because air was being fed into it at speed (110kph), to only come back down to around 90° when I got off the Hwy And your 100% correct about the NC currently not needing vents, but, if I was to add a turbo, and a oil cooler and intercooler in front of the condenserand radiator, and then take it to the track???? It is apparently a recommend requirement if I don't want to worry about coolant or oil temp issues, but, any of the above are possible scenarios, over time As it sits now, with the triple pass radiator and stock air conditioning system, I have absolutely no issues with either temps or air conditioning efficiency, I've been basically daily driving thie car for the last month, both on the Hwy, and peak hour, bumper to bumper traffic, but, that's pretty much expected from basically a standard engine  Talking about no issues daily driving, it was 39° the other day and I was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the M5 and then M7, with the top down, and with the air conditioning blowing nice cold air on my feet, balls, and face, well, there was one issue, my head and arms got pretty sun burnt Note to self: leave a hat and sunscreen in the car for such days 🤣
    • I would agree, unless you need something specific to the HV motor/battery side repaired or investigated, any mechanic will be able to perform normal services, but if you prefer, maybe look for a mechanic who regularly services/repairs Nissans, the VQ engines are pretty common in the Nissan lineup.  Sorry, I can't make any suggestions, I don't live in Vic.
