The Battle For Japanese Supercar Stardom Begins Anew

Recommended Posts

But N1 > NSXR and GTR R34 > NSX

and the R34 u just listed was stock but with the speed limiter removed.. it was the fastest production car around the ring.. including the NSXR :P

Im gonna need more than that. Info on this is hard to find.

as u can see the r32 even best most of the current crop cars...

but to tell u the truth..

i would own a nsxr over almost all those cars.. cept for my gtr and the r34 N1 lol :P

Im aware the R34 was faster around a circuit but 0-400 times specifically is what im after.

Its damn hard to find anything accurate even though proof has been shown of the NSX trouncing the R32, 33 and 34 in a 400 metre dash.

Its hard to find data on the NSX - R quarter time and even harder to find GTR N1 times.///../

But, find em i will. :P

Look i dont see what the point is in arguring over the past..

R34 won back then.. it doesnt matter because honda wasnt never competeing with the GTR or the Supra

But it is now.. Honda has made a claim that it wont come out until it whips the GTR.. and its a proper direct competition.. something that it never was despite what u might think m3gtr...

Toyota never said THIS SUPRA WILL KILL THE GTR.. or THE NSX IS A GTR KILLER... never ever.. thats something that us as customers have taken upon ourselves to do..

This time thou, its different like i said and honda is on a mission to knock the gtr off the podium and it will

Its not an argument. The NSX is faster than any of the previous gen GTR's to 400 metres.

The GTR was not faster over a 1/4 mile when stock and if youd read the previous posts you would have seen that was the point in contention.

That and the fact the N1 was NOT a full volume factory production model but a stripped down, handbuilt special.

Thats why, i have asked if anyone knows more about the N! and the more hardcore NSX R GT

Argue all you want, all the data you find will be unreliable.

The OEM's say one thing (lies) and drivers, journo's, enthusiasts etc. do their own tests which aren't verifiable, ON TOP of the fact you're comparing data, with the GTR for eg., that can't be compared because you know at least one data-set (Nissan's) is a pile of BS.

You need these cars, factory spec, and a 2WD dyno, drag strip, on a 22-degree morning.

but it wasnt the fastest.. like i said b4.. theres a guy on OUR forums who has run a 12.4 with his stock r32 gtr...

Stock? Stock with nittos perhaps, lol. :P

What is this Bung? Looks like a tag team now.

Skyline man: Re the Z tune: The entire car is essentially handmade, with the car being completely stripped and re-built from the chassis up.

production car

pro·duc·tion car (plural pro·duc·tion cars)

noun Definition: car manufactured on production line: a car of a type manufactured in large numbers on a production line for general use

Stripping a car and modifying it, isn't production.

So you're saying that a hand built car isn't a production car? It doesn't matter how the car is built, whether by hand, feet, legs, by chimps or even idiots etc etc....If a company builds a car up to specs that makes it road safe, past emission tests, at least 15 models etc etc, then it qualifies as a production car. The Z-tune qualifies as a production car and IT IS a production car. Do your research moron! The Mclaren F1 was totally built by hand from the carbon fibre body to the engine etc, and it was not built on an assembly line. It is a production car. So from your logic, the Mclaren F1 isn't a production car as well?

Moron, Pronunciation:

\ˈmȯr-ˌän\

Function:

noun

Etymology:

irregular from Greek mōros foolish, stupid

*puts bourbon down* oh sif tag me in :D

Quite simply put... IT WASN'T PRODUCED BY THEM! It was modified... somewhat extensively, and 21 times, but it is still a modified original... The definition i have there for production cars is very flawed, it was the first one I found, but you can't argue that it's a modified original... Not to mention second hand...

It's a great car (god is jealous) and while it is endorsed by Nissan and is their crowning achievment thus far, it still isn't a production car...

    • Have you put an aftermarket oil pressure gauge on and verified your oil pressure?   Noise being on the block, on exhaust side, how high up the block does it seem to be? It could be the VCT system getting cranky, especially if it's mainly at idle, and when warm, as that'll be your lowest point for oil pressure. Could be showing that oil passages / VCT solenoid are blocking.
    • Well, hydraulic lifters will get noisy if they are dirty/fouled in some way, and exactly how that manifests will depend on exactly what schmutz is where. There is a procedure on here somewhere for dismantling and soaking/cleaning them. Replacing them with new is about 50% of the work and about 5% of the money!
    • Thanks for the reply @GTSBoy this is is a hydraulic lifter engine. Yea right i did not realise the lifters were supposed to be compressible while installed. I could push them down but i had to lean almost my while body weight on them.  I have never heard of a lifter/ lifters ticking only at hot idle and getting worse the hotter it gets. I have owned a few jdm cars with noisy lifters. This noise is slightly more subtle, it is more of a sharp gentle metalic tic than the solid and more loud tapping I've heard on lifters. I have used a metal rod, alloy tube, hose and stethoscope and could not find the source of the tick. But it appears to be loudest on the actual engine block behind the exhaust cam gear and next to the oil filter. I had mate (40 year old mechanic) go over it with me and he couldn't find it either..  Could it be a cam seal issue of some sort?  Cheers
    • This seems problematic and unlikely at the same time. Vanilla RB2Xs have hydraulic lifters. They do have "zero" clearance, but only when running with oil pressure inside them. When not running, you should be able to compress them and obtain heaps of clearance. RB26s and Neos have solid lifters. They should have ~0.3mm and ~0.5mm on the inlet and exhaust respectively. If they have zero clearance then bad things are happening. With nothing else being wrong, it would mean that the valves would be held slightly (ever so slightly) open when they are supposed to be closed and it should have all sorts of problems when running, caused by leakage in/out through the valves. Or, zero clearance can indicate severe valve seat recession. None of it is good. Have you used a piece of hose as a stethoscope to try to localise the noise?
