Guys,

I'm looking to do a brake upgarde on my 33 GTST. The current setup is stock rotor/caliper with some endless pads, brained lines and dot 4/5 fluid cant remember. I found the newer fluid and braided lines good on my last track day. usually do about 4-5 hot laps.

I feel like spending some more cash and wanted a new setup to match my power for the track, currently 270rwkw. I was simply thinking of a slotted rotor and pad upgrade front an rear. Howeer I have read many mixed opinions of different rotors. Dont want any crazy setups...just a nice upgrade to help with those hill climbs and track days to give me a bit more confidence.

Anyway options requested.

Hey Guys,

I am VERY interested in anyone who is going to upgrade their 34 GTT's....i want to do a brake upgrade on my N/A and wouldnt mind buying calipers and rotors off you.

Im not sure if the r33 turbo brake setup would suit mine, but if you know they will....I'll take those off you too!!

I recently upgraded my 33 gtst brakes (fronts) .... rears are on the way... Currently running 306 rwkw with another 10psi still be added in when I find the time to get back to my tuner...

Alcon calipers (K Type) and rotors (355x32) that I purchased off Dave.... they are BIG!!! .... I thought my slotted rotors, braided lines and RB74 pads were going alright... well let me tell you that I have seen the other side..... Brakes can be sooooooooo expensive, especially if you keep upgrading in bits and pieces .... Im hating my bank balance at present, damn Dave giving me the brake bug!

If you don't want excessive, get some decent rotors and pads along with braided lines... or for a bit of extra money go the 33GTR upgrade route...

I'd say slotted rotors would be a good start.

GTR brakes even better due to larger diameter, but cash involved.

If money isn't an issue get a new setup front and rear like the Alcon above. 6-pot front, 4-pot rear will be plenty of bite.

can you still lock up the wheels on the track with your current setup? Are the brakes consistent throughout a session or does it start to fade towards the end?

If both are ok then you don't really need to upgrade

If the brakes are fading towards the end of a session then you need to look at fluid first, then more suitable pads.

If you reeeally want to spend a bit of money the cheapest upgrade for you will be some of the 324mm rotor and offset bracket kits from unique.

yeah, but in perspective, how much would it cost you to get a set of calipers to fit the bigger rotor?

800 from memory for rotors and brackets, can re use your existing pads and calipers. and you get a 28mm bigger rotor.

I'm a Fitter/Machinist by trade which is why I think they are expensive. Material and hardware cost is relatively small. If I wasn't so lazy and the demand was there I would model and CNC a heap of them up.

I'd quite happily pay $250 for them... Don't get me wrong, the $800 package from UAS is decent for the average punter. :D

Also, bigger calipers would equate to greater stopping capacity, so that cost is not relative.

Hang on. you will pay $250 for them, but not $800 for the kit? The DBA rotors are worth $500 and the high tensile bolts some spare change as well. So thats really what you are paying for them, roughly.

Also, i personally dont think the 324mm upgrade is as good an option for R32 GTRs and R33s as it is for the R32 GTSt. The bracket to make it all go together isnt as robust. Stilla good upgrade for the dollar, but almost worthile finding some R32 GTSt calipers to use on your car then use the adaptor and 324mm rotor.

Also, bigger calipers do not mean more stopping power, as a rule its a pretty good one. But its not always the case. You would think that 6 Pot AP, Alcon, Greddy etc all give you more brakign power but they dont. They actually have less piston area then even the std Sumitom calipers. So use that sort of caliper on the same rotor size as std and it would generally be a step backwards. Of course a larger better caliper will generally be more rigid etc so ensures that there is less flex so pedal pressure better equates to pressure on the pad to rotor....but you get what i am getting at >_<

I'm with Roy, $800 is a fair price when you add up the components you get for it. I went a little further on the R33GTST where I used the UAS (lower control arm) air scoops/deflectors, UAS adaptors with the standard callipers, braided lines, 324 mm DBA5000 series rotors and Hawk pads and it easily outbrakes the "R" type tyres for a whole 20 minute track session.

I have a fairly basic set up

DBA 4000 slotted rotors (brand new, just replaced my old, warped DBA's which were on the car for a few years! lol)

QFM pads

braided lines

dot 5 fluid

works well, but will see how it goes at superlap, Id love brakes like Anna's.....but my account wont let me haha

Would this also relate to a R32 GTS-T type m upgrade to R32 GTR front rotors and calipers ??

Or would the std Type M calipers do fine on the larger rotors ???

I have done a little different to the other options here, I went for R34 Brembos front and rear with DBA 5000 rotors... It's the more expensive option for basically the same performance as the offset brackets + standard calipers... however if you can get the Brembos at a reasonable cost and you can sell off your old gear, its not that much more $ than the UAS offset setup... the only real advantage in going this way is they probably have less kays on them then your old stock gear and definately look better...

When fade started ooccur I went some new dot 5 and brained lines. Seemed to fix that up mostly. I'm not sure about the locking of the wheels cos I dont have ABS so yeah locing is quite easy.

I will probably just go a new set of pads this round and see how that goes.

They are worth having i think, but it should be the last thing you get.

Pads, lines, bigger rotors all improve the braking performance. The master cylinder stopper only improves the performance if the fire wall is so soft you can't actually apply enough pressure to find the brakes limits (if that makes sense). Thats not an issue in an r33.

Some guys reckon it improves feel, i couldn't feel the difference myself.
