Dammit... the noise has stopped.... now my car won't start without a jump! I've checked the battery filled up with distilled water and checked the leads... everything seems fine! It's all buggered!

I'm back in Perth late next week and unfortunately I have previous experience with a Meteor. If one of these fine gentlemen fails to assist drop me a line...I'm ten minutes up the road...At least you can change your own tyres. I had an ex who had a flat on her MGB and I had to drive 30 minutes to change it...damn centre lock rims

Ok....so update on the bunky!

To all you Einsteins who said: "Get a new car" thankyou for your highly intelligent, genious input....how ever, noticable to some, I am more than obviously in the process of doing this..so please stop hammering me with your overwhelming brain power!!

Anyways...more to the point...the bunky is now making a "shooosh" sound every nwo and then when I accelerate. I can't pin point any pattern, it just happens randomly. it soudns liek the exhaust, but it's pretty scary! Please help! I really need to keep this running to get em from A to B at least till I get finance!!!

Swooshing is fine for a ladies car, when it starts going brackata-brackata-pop-brackata-brackata-brack-pop-pop-kashung you're in trouble.

What do u mean for a ladies car....it's not a ladiescar it's a SH!TBOX? And swooshing is fine?....but it's never doen it before up until satruday....i swear it's comign from the exhaust when it first happened i thought I'd popped a tyre

Probably just as you described & it's an exhaust leak. Only a pretty bad one.

And sif edit my post at the top of the page!

What're u talkign abotu editing ur post? lol im confused....

And "only a pretty bad one"?? wellllll thank god for that! lol aw-ohz! I took a mate for a drive last night and he said he's not sure if it's the exhaust or not now. When I take off it does it for about the first 5 mins, and I can't accelerate and it like revs and slows down then all of a sudden the swooooosh noise stops and I can drive properly again....?!?!?! Any ideas?!!

:(

Are you still trying to con some poor fella into mowing your lawns and painting the house?

Maybe time for a basic service, plugs, leads, distributor cap..ect could be in order.

Does it do it only when the engine is cold? does it have an auto choke or manual choke? Try letting the car warm up a bit on cold start.

Atleast pull the plugs out and give them a clean if you're on a budget, same goes for the contact points on the leads and distibutor cap.

Let someone else with more knowledge have a listen-drive. I will most probably be something very basic.

Unless of course it's going brackata-brackata-pop-brackata-brackata-brack-pop-pop-kashung :(

Haha Yes I'm giving it all I got!!! It's worth a try right? Some poor fella will fall for it! lol jkz

Thanks that helps heaps Yeah it's got a manual choke. That means I'd have to give it like 15mins to warm up cos I normally give it a good 10mins. I'll see how I got with all of that and no I want to learn to do it myself ;)

Thanks for the tips!!

  • 3 weeks later...

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for giving me help & info about this. I have come to the conclusion that the gherkin is possessed. There is no longer funny noises and it's driving perfectly fine. I need to replace the battery. All of a sudden the radio has started working again too (which hasn't worked for 6months!!!) Now it's all stupid cosmetic damage (see: below). The front side panel was bent in by someone with a crowbar 9god knwos what they were trying to do) and my window lever broke so my Bushman Mechanic friend, Joel jammed it in place with some sticks on the ground (*face palm*) and one night the horn went crazy everytime I turned the wheel so in a fit of rage I ripped it out!

So at least now it'll get me from A to B until I get finance (i have an appointment with the bank 2 fridays from now and they're sure I'll pass this time. I failed last time due to an account overdrawl but 8weeks with no over-draw and I should be suh-weet!!!) So Yeah thanx Guys!!!

    • Price seems pretty good to me. Also seems a hell of a lot cheaper then buying another vehicle that only ever gets used for towing.  I'm a long way from you mate, I'm a couple of hours out of Brizzy.
    • New [400]Z, they're available in manual and you don't have to worry about parts scarcity.

    • The sodium acetate, mixed with citric acid, doesn't actually buffer each other. Interestingly though, if you used Sodium Acetate, and acetic acid, THAT becomes a buffer solution. Additionally, a weak acid that can attack a metal, is still a weak acid that can attack a metal. If you don't neutralise it, and wash it off, it's going to be able to keep attacking. It works the same way when battery acid dries, get that stuff somewhere, and then it gets wet, and off it goes again breaking things down. There's a reason why people prefer a weak acid, and it's because they want TIME to be able to be on their side. IE, DIY guys are happy to leave some mild steel in vinegar for 24 hours to get mill scale off. However, if you want to do it chemically in industry, you grab the muriatic acid. If you want to do it quicker at home, go for the acetic acid if you don't want muriatic around. At the end of the day, look at the above thumbnail, as it proves what I said in the earlier post, you can clean that fuel tank up all you want with the solution, but the rust that has now been removed was once the metal of the fuel tank. So how thin in spots is your fuel tank getting? If the magazine on the left, is the actual same magazine as on the right, you'll notice it even introduces more holes... Well, rust removal in general actually does that. The fuel tank isn't very thick. So, I'll state again, look to replace the tank, replace the fuel hanger, and pump, work out how the rust and shit is making it past the fuel filter, and getting into the injectors. That is the real problem. If the fuel filter were doing its job, the injectors wouldn't be blocked.
    • Despite having minimal clothing because of the hot weather right now, I did have rubber gloves and safety glasses on just in-case for most of the time. Yes, I was scrubbing with my gloves on before, but brushing with a brush removes the remaining rust. To neutralize, I was thinking distilled water and baking soda, or do you think that would be overkill?
