SAFC fixed my problem, dyno!!

Recommended Posts

i got an extra 130rwhp by adding safc and having the car tuned at SST, as others have said all my mods made the car slower untill it was properly tuned, from 130hp @12psi to 253hp@16psi (it also made 224@12psi) cant be happier

Redusing the gap of your plugs helps run smoother at higher revs

because the spark has less distance to jump standard is a gap of 1.1mm. Good idea to regap them if uping the boost. there probbly is a slight power gain to but the main thing I noticed was the overall smoothless of the engine at high revs.

i realli dun have a clue when it comes to this gappin plug thing!

and thanks for the info!

I've got Platinum 1.1's.

Yesterday I bought a little tool which basically has bits of metal in varying width, you insert this bit of metal (e.g. .08 width) in between the end of the plug and wack it(carefully) on something till the gap is narrowed.

I think you mean a Filler guage.

Hey Robo, nice power gain mate.

Your car must feel better now.

Just a silly question tho, if your car was originally running rich, by upping the boost wouldn't it pump in more air and making it a bit leaner??

Yes you are correct, but the AFM feels this and it tells the computer to richen it up more, so hence more fuel again. My original dyno graph shows the Air/Fuel ratios in the 10 and 9 to 1 which is extremely rich when the aim is for around 12 - 1. Currently im experiencing a little detonaiton at the top end of third gear which would probably is for the stock intercooler and/or lean mixture. I think i will be back on the dyno soon.

    • Thanks mate 👍 The car was brought into the UK by a USAF mechanic until he was stationed back to the US, one owner later I bought her back in 2009. Luckily the only corrosion was on the sill seams, so once taken back to metal and treated and sealed all ok, I then undersealed the car myself and check yearly and treat any corrosion which to be honest is zero. She's garaged most of the time and hardly ever driven in the rain, but as you say most are rotten unfortunately, I was lucky in finding her as she was and still is in excellent condition.
    • Stunning car.  Looks amazing!  You're in the UK?  How the hell do you stop your car rotting away beneath you?  British cars are the WORST I've ever seen in regards to rust.  Some of the cars SR Autobody have done are borderbeyond saving.
    • not a date code? or a foundry code?
    • I have up to date pics of the engine build and turbo conversion over on my instagram @skpro_jects if you want to take a deeper look.   Basically the exhaust manifold is straight bolt on and the ports match (they arent any smaller than a 25 or 26 head).    the intake ports are different shape so the 20/25det manifold will bolt up but wont match properly or seal. You will need to port match using the 25det gasket as a stencil. Personally i ran the entire stock 20neo intake setup and have configured the swirl valves and torque valve to work based on my custom parameters to help with off boost response and spool. But this is using a standalone aem v2 ecu. The stock 20det ecu wont be able to control them.
    • Hi. a little later but if the topic is here. So...the exhaust is the same and you can use 25/Turbo or any aftermarket? What about intake side? Is it too "plug n play" or? (i do not remember for 100% but i think that one intake to head gasket was little bit different than on the RB25 - i bought gasket kit way back) I know that even if it "plug" those butterfly swirls would cause ECU to be confused or?   Just asking for the info 🙂 and of course the RB25 things are easier to come by
