I bought this 180SX as the first Aussie owner back in 2003, in absolutely stock condition apart from a cat-back. Since then, it's been fitted with lots of genuine Japanese parts to make it something performs well on the track but still be comfortable to drive on the street.

Since I never really had any intention of driving it in competitions, the engine has only been mildly modified. I've never let the coolant or oil overheat, so 100°C for water or 110°C for oil always meant a cool-down lap, and I've always made an effort to keep the tacho a few hundred revs short of redline at the most. The engine has never been boosted over 14psi either. As a result, it has never been pulled out, and is still the original factory unit.

In December last year, the car was cleaned up and fitted with a genuine Origin Streamline kit and resprayed in Glasurit paint.

All of the mechanical work, fabrication and regular servicing like engine, gearbox and diff oil changes were done by Advan Performance in Auburn. Feel free to call Peter and ask him about the car.

$14,000 is the asking price, but a quick and easy sale would definitely bring it down.

The car will be attending the Initial Drift track day at Wakefield on July 13th for anyone down in that direction who would like to see it, and then will be available in Sydney after that.

I can supply a pink slip for registration in NSW if necessary, and interstate transport can be arranged at the buyer's expense.

NO TRADES, NO PARTING OUT! Selling for cash only.

for a video of it in action! This was shot a few months ago, and I've only taken it to the track once since then.

Here's a summary of the car in general:

THE GOOD

  • The engine is in good condition, and blows no white, black or blue smoke. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it, as far as I know.
  • Street registered, reliable daily driver and good drift performer.
  • It has a clean history, with no crashes or bad credit or anything like that.
  • It's never been involved in more than a mild hit at the track (although with plenty of close calls!), and even then it was only superficial body panels that were ever damaged.
  • The exhaust isn't too loud or annoying for daily driving.
  • The wheels use no spacers. Fitment comes from the offset only.
  • For any other drift maniacs who like this kind of stuff, most of the stickers on the car were given to me by their respective owners, not bought, so they're all genuine. There's stuff from D1 drivers like Tezuka, Dart Izumi, Murayama, Hoshino, Haruyama, Koguchi, Kunny etc. If you wanted to remove them though, they're all on glass, so it would be easy.
  • It's reliable! It has only been towed away from the track once in over four years, and that was for a broken subframe that couldn't be replaced easily. I had plates welded on a new cradle to reinforce the bracket that cracked on the old one.
  • Since the bodykit isn't that low and the paint is dark and understated, it attracts very little attention from the you-know-who. I get into more trouble in my standard Cressida, to be honest.
  • It has a full interior, carpet, original floormats and air conditioning, and the power windows and mirrors all work.
  • No oil leaks, no pump leaks, and the belts are in good nick after being completely replaced a couple of years ago.
  • The car has always been garaged, and there are no cracks in the dash.
  • Stick some injectors, a computer and electronic boost controller on it for an easy 200kW+.
  • If you want to get some matching spare Work wheels for the rear, I can arrange it.

THE BAD

  • The underbody has a few dents from some arguments with ripple-strips, but nothing too major.
  • The only body rust I'm aware of is a small bit under the driver's footwell that I hit with some rust inhibitor.
  • The driver's rear quarter window is a factory-tinted version from a later model. I had to replace it after it was accidentally smashed in my garage, so you'll need to tint the other clear windows if you want it to match.
  • The left rear seatbelt is missing the pretensioner, but the belt and spool are still there.
  • There's a small v-shaped crack in the bog on the passenger's rear guard from when the tyre hit it after I changed the wheel alignment a while ago. The alignment has since been fixed, but you'll need to patch up the crack.
  • You'll need to install the front Type-X indicators, but they come as a brand-new D-MAX kit with wiring, so it should be easy to do.
  • There are a few scrapes and chips on the front bar and body, but these should be easy to touch up. No cracks in the fibreglass.
  • The wheels have a bit of battle damage on them, but they're all true and could be restored easily if you wanted.
  • The custom handbrake cable (for the drum handbrake conversion) is a bit loose, but the wheels still lock very easily.

    • Yes, while being... strictly unnecessary. Tuning is a bit like quantum physics. You don't need to understand what Schroedinger's equation actually means. You just need to run the computation and accept the answers. With tuning, you just push page up/down until the exhaust tells you that you've got the fuel right. The VE can stay hidden behind the curtain like the Wizard of Oz and you'll never need to know what he looked like.
    • The second part yes, the first part about easy VE calculation is something I've seen a few people talk about online.
    • You 100% could do that, would save money on a gym membership lol. But yeah, getting a cordless orbital sander will feel priceless coming from doing it manually.  Good luck with it mate
    • I initially was going to do the whole car with a block then realised, it would be a bigger monster of the job 😂 I guess that's all part of the learning process. I appreciate all that advice, I think I got a good idea on how to tackle this whole job.
    • I admire your efforts with the scuff pad.  As a mere mortal, I use this for the baulk of my sanding work- https://sydneytools.com.au/product/milwaukee-m18bos125-0-18v-li-ion-cordless-125mm-5-random-orbital-sander-skin-only Yes you can easily create a low spot while sanding. There are 2 types of filler, 1 part of 2 part. The 2 part filler will get used for large corrections and the 1 part filler will get used for pin holes and areas that only need slight filling.  Depending on how zealous you are with the sander (very easy to do with a power tool) or if you are chasing rust etc, yes those low spots will need to get filled or you will end up with a very obvious defects in the paint.  Using the guide coat and large sanding block, high and low areas will be revealed (watch youtube videos for a good visual on this). Its up to you if you think its worth the effort to make the car completely flat before you spray it (you make it flat by filling the low areas).  At the end of the day, it comes down to time. The end result comes from the level of prep put in to the car. If you want a perfect result, you have to put in the time during the prep stage or else it will be impossible to achieve a perfect result during the spraying process.
