Aaaaagh! What Went Bang?!?

Okay, so this morning, going around a roundabout my my left front wheel makes a horrible crunching type noise.

Now she:

1. Has a speed dependent whining coming from the left wheel area

2. Makes loud crashing noises going over speedhumps at low speeds

3. Makes a horrible scraping noise when turning right

Any idea what might have broken?

So far the suggestions i've had have been a wheel bearing going, or the shock collapsing.

Anyone had this before?

at a quick guess id say wheel bearing. easy way 2 know is jack the car up and spin the wheel and u will soon know ur answer

i started to get these noises on my way home from workd a few weeks ago, stopped at a servo and all i could see was that one nut looked to be a little loose (i was already missing one due to a stripped stud) thought i would drive the 2 or 3k's home and fix it there, by the time i got home i was down to 2 loose wheel nuts.

My problem was that my wheels were the wrong offset for my car and were using spacers, the nuts only grabbed by about 5mm, this probably is not your problem but if your wheel nuts have come loose it will be making the same noises.

Got new wheels the day after this happened as can be seen in the pic below.

I'm guessing that you didn't have bolt on spacers.

no, they were only 5mm but enough to limit how much bite the nuts could get on the studs.

any one else? i dont have spacers. my wheels have the correct offsets.

Id say wheel bearing 2 jack it up and spin the wheel then get 1 hand on the bottom and 1 on the top and rock the wheel in and out it shouldnt move unless the wheel bearing has colapsed good luck...
