Alright since Aaron and Ben have made we want to go back there badly I thought I throw this open to see if anyone was keen to visit THE WORLDS GREATEST RACETRACK next year :(

I was lucky enough to go earlier this year and it was a life changing experience. I absolutely loved it. However I was also unlucky in that I only got one lap - my first - in the dry. Then it pissed down and the rest of the laps could only be described at tentative and scary. So I have unfinished business there.

The one thing that was obvious though was that the way you enter the track through a toll gate meant that you often saw groups of mates waiting for each other and then blasting off around the track together. It looked like a heap of fun doing that and it really made me want to come back with a few lads for the next lot of fun.

So the question is - who would be keen to come and take on the Green Hell in 2009 sometime?

If you made it 2010 I'd probably say yes, As I'll be over there then. Have anyone more info on how much it costs to hire a car to drive there? From what I remember it's just a token charge to actually run on the track though.

I'm open to suggestions as to when but right now since the plan is to do Targa next year that more than likely later in the year - like Septemeber / October is going to be best budget wise for me. Targa could kill my budget completely although I'm no sure starter in that yet.

As for cars - well last time I went with Theo and Heidi from rentracecar and they were just awesome and I'd definitely be looking at teeing up with them again.

Lap charges are about $30 / lap and to give you an idea of cost I suggest my day last time which just consisted of 5 laps in a BMW 135i racecar cost me around $1K for the day. I could have done 8 laps for about the same cost. It'd be a couple of hundred less in something slower and it also be a couple of hundred more if I wanted a bunch more laps. Personally I'd want to go for 2-3 days so really I'd suggest budgeting (depending on what car you want) around $2-5K for 3 days plus getting there.

Gee Roy, sounds tough mate!

Re the 'ring, I'm mad keen, though am in the same boat Andrew, Targa soaks up lots of cash, and later in the year would be better for me too.

lol, looking at the renter racer site, it looks just like playing Gran Turismo but with real, harder to obtain, money :whistling:

I've got a mate that works for the Jet Alliance Racing Team (see below) as well and he's always telling me to come over for a round and he'll look after me for the weekend (he's always recommended Spa as the best round of the year which is a 24hr race but is usually on around early August). So maybe teeing up one of these events to go with the ring visit is the way to go.

Yes good thinking 99.

I've never played the 'ring on Playstation, best to get myself set up and start hey!

On a side note, I've floated the idea with a co-driving friend of mine of pace-noting it on a sighting lap. That'd be a pretty good way of putting in some fast laps for a novice (to the 'ring). Maybe that's something to think about Snowy once you're comfortable with notes? (post Targa for instance)

EDIT: Thinking about it now, given you've done some laps you're likely quite comfortable with it. I wasn't thinking straight, the excitement has got to me :whistling:

oooh, i wonder how much it would cost for us all to split the cost of a big shipping container and take the cars...

ive always wanted to drive the ring, but to do it in my GTR... what a mouth watering prospect! :whistling:

Here's a good start to your notes Ben - http://bimmerfile.com/files/Nurburgring.pdf

Although I must admit before I went I read this and came away thinking "I'm going to die apparently" and then threw it away. LOL

If its going to be later in the year, just rent my car off me :whistling: Its likely to be either a Sierra Cossie or another R32 GTSt. Do you have any idea how cheap GTSts are in the UK? Buy a basic stock one so its reliable as hell and use it to sample some uk tracks. :)

If this is still for sale at end of September , hehe, way fun thrasher http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/591391.htm

Would love to do this! But not next year, I don't think the mortgage will have released it's strangle hold by then :whistling:

It was this or Le Mans for us last year, and we chose Le Mans. But I'll definately be making the trek to the green hell in the next few years.
